Absract: In the present manuscript collections of the Biblioteka Narodowa in Warsaw and the Biblioteka Jagiellońska in Kraków are two commentaries on Aristotle's Rhetoric and two on Hermogenes' On Ideas, all evidently composed in the early seventeenth century. This study briefly surveys their contents and organization and attempts to locate them in the cultural milieu of Renaissance Polish scholarship, an area of study almost totally ignored by American and Western European historians of rhetoric.

Background: This review provides a closer look at recent work in the field of fireworks manufacture, which could see the replacement of micron-sized particles with their nano-scaled counterparts. Moreover, we also discuss micron-sized particles as well as nanoparticles (NPs) from K, Fe, Al, Ti, Ba, etc., that are produced in the atmosphere as a result of these fireworks. One of the possible technological substitutes for fireworks is presented in detail, i.e., the use of ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) technology. Method: We searched Google, Web of Science and PubMed for a literature survey of fireworks and their products: firecrackers, micron-sized and nanoparticles. Moreover, we used some of our own knowledge and experimental data to strengthen the possibility of simulating the synthesis of firework products on the laboratory scale. Results: The use of nano reactants and oxidisers has seen a substantial increase in the sound efficiency and a decrease in the amount of chemicals used, making fireworks more eco-friendly. The application of Al- and Ti-based nano flash powder in the size range from 35 nm to 50 μm resulted in a significant improvement in the ignition properties of the fireworks. Under changing aerodynamic conditions, it is difficult to collect them as samples for real-time monitoring, needed for their characterization or the testing of their harmfulness under laboratory conditions. As a result, NPs below 100 nm in the surroundings could be easily inhaled into the lungs and cause more pulmonary and respiratory problems than micron-sized particles. USP produces nanoparticles in the laboratory that could replace the conventional micron-sized firecracker raw materials, or nanoparticles that are similar to those formed by fireworks. It will also help to identify the physiochemical properties of the airborne particulates in order to understand and evaluate their impact. </P><P> This review could be valuable for a controlled economic synthesis through USP, and in the use of nanopowders in pyrotechnology that could reduce pollution to a great extent, thus contributing to the growth and good practise of the fireworks industry. With respect to the USP synthesis, we have also discussed in detail the physical (size, shape) and chemical (composition) characteristics of Al2O3 and TiO2 NPs from different precursors and their temperature ranges. An in-depth explanation for a comparative analysis for the formation mechanism of nanoparticles through both fireworks and USP is presented in the final section. We can produce nanoparticles in the laboratory with ultrasonic spray pyrolysis that have similar properties to those produced from fireworks and can then be used for further testing.

This paper is based on sociological quantitative studies carried out in 2019 on a sample of 620 Polish Catholics living in London, Swindon, or Oxford. Those studies and their findings are limited only to those Catholics who make up the communities around major Polish institutions in the UK, such as Polish parishes, Saturday schools, and community houses. The goal of this paper is to describe selected aspects of Polish migrants’ religiosity in the new social and cultural milieu. What we focus on here is how Poles themselves describe their faith, how they understand and evaluate their membership of parishes or other religious communities, and how they approach religious practices, especially Sunday Mass attendance. We address the following questions: how do the Poles living abroad describe their attitudes towards faith? How many of them are active members of Polish parishes? What do their religious practices and membership of other community organisations look like? How do specific factors affect the results across these areas?

The introduction of surgical technology into existing operating rooms (ORs) can place novel demands on staff and infrastructure. Despite the substantial physical size of the devices in robotic-assisted surgery (RAS), the workspace implications are rarely considered. This study aimed to explore the impact of OR size on the environmental causes of surgical flow disruptions (FDs) occurring during RAS. Fifty-six RAS procedures were observed at two academic hospitals between July 2019 and January 2021 across general, urologic, and gynecologic surgical specialties. A multiple regression analysis demonstrated significant effects of room size in the pre-docking phase (t = 2.170, df = 54, β = 0.017, p = 0.035) where the rate of FDs increased as room size increased, and docking phase (t = −2.488, df = 54, β = −0.017, p = 0.016) where the rate of FDs increased as room size decreased. Significant effects of site (pre-docking phase: p = 0.000 and docking phase: p = 0.000) were also demonstrated. Findings from this study demonstrate hitherto unrecognized spatial challenges involved with introducing surgical robots into the operating domain. While new technology may provide benefits towards patient safety, it is important to consider the needs of the technology prior to integration.

This study aimed to test differences in drawn size of familiar objects of different physical size in haptic drawings produced by blindfolded sighted participants. Using two sizes of the foil sheets on which they made convex drawings, they drew one object per foil. The results showed that the size of drawings increased linearly with the rising rank of real-world size. Although larger drawings were created on larger foils than on smaller ones, the ratio of the object drawn size within the foil sheet size did not differ across foil sizes. Hence, canonical size—a phenomenon known so far from studies on the visual domain—revealed here in a task performed in the haptic domain.

Abstract Background Different gamma camera calibration factor (CF) geometries have been proposed to convert SPECT data into units of activity concentration. However, no consensus has been reached on a standardised geometry. The CF is dependent on the selected geometry and is further affected by partial volume effects. This study investigated the effect of two CF geometries and their corresponding recovery coefficients (RCs) on the quantification accuracy of 177Lu SPECT images using Monte Carlo simulations. Methods The CF geometries investigated were (i) a radioactive-sphere surrounded by non-radioactive water (sphere-CF) and (ii) a cylindrical phantom uniformly filled with radioactive water (cylinder-CF). Recovery coefficients were obtained using the sphere-CF and cylinder-CF, yielding the sphere-RC and cylinder-RC values, respectively, for partial volume correction (PVC). The quantification accuracy was evaluated using four different-sized spheres (15.6–65.4 ml) and a kidney model with known activity concentrations inside a cylindrical, torso and patient phantom. Images were reconstructed with the 3D OS-EM algorithm incorporating attenuation, scatter and detector-response corrections. Segmentation was performed using the physical size and a small cylindrical volume inside the cylinder for the sphere-CF and cylinder-CF, respectively. Results The sphere quantification error (without PVC) was better for the sphere-CF (≤ − 5.54%) compared to the cylinder-CF (≤ − 20.90%), attributed to the similar geometry of the quantified and CF spheres. Partial volume correction yielded comparable results for the sphere-CF-RC (≤ 3.47%) and cylinder-CF-RC (≤ 3.53%). The accuracy of the kidney quantification was poorer (≤ 22.34%) for the sphere-CF without PVC compared to the cylinder-CF (≤ 2.44%). With PVC, the kidney quantification results improved and compared well for the sphere-CF-RC (≤ 3.50%) and the cylinder-CF-RC (≤ 3.45%). Conclusion The study demonstrated that upon careful selection of CF-RC combinations, comparable quantification errors (≤ 3.53%) were obtained between the sphere-CF-RC and cylinder-CF-RC, when all corrections were applied.
