The paper reports part of a study aimed at developing teaching materials in inculcating upper secondary students’ mathematical reasoning skills (MRS). To develop the materials, the researcher implemented the Four-D Model. The study took subjects from five public schools in Province of North Sumatera, Indonesia. The researcher designed and developed students’ work sheet (SWS) and instrument to measure MRS. Along the teaching ran, which applied problem-based learning model, the researcher observed teachers’ and students’ activities while nurturing and applying MRS in the frame of solving mathematical problems. Of the four indicators laid to measure the MRS, students lack most in use of pattern relationship to analyse situation, to make analogy, or to generalize. The ways support student’s progress in achieving MRS are if (i) the problem faced is much mimicked the task solved in the classroom, (ii) more various problems given to solve under guidance, and (iii) intensive scaffolding is given.

This article presents a contextual learning what it is and what are its characteristics? What is the statistical reasoning skills? Why contextual learning can develop statistical reasoning Traffic junior secondary students? Reasoning ability is very important statistical owned by junior high school students, because of the ability of these statistical penalaranr students may have competence in terms of: 1) understand the statistical information expressed or implied in any problems faced. 2) A good understanding of how to choose, present, mererduksi, and present data that will be used to address existing problems. 3) understanding and reasoning that both the statistical process as a whole including any calculations involved in the process. 4) understanding to solve the problem of statistically based on existing data, and interpret it in decision-making that can be applied generally. Therefore, to develop the statistical reasoning skills should consider learning approach used for junior secondary students. Model learning approach that is appropriate for school students first one of which is a contextual learning approach (Contextual Teaching and Learning). This contextual learning approach to take problems in daily life or simulated problems with dialogue, discussion ,, question and answer, and representation. Contextual teaching activities developed are: a) problem-based learning, b) learning with multi context, c) self-learning, d) authentic assessment, and e) a learning society.

This research aimed to produce the product in the form of questions of valid and practical students' mathematical reasoning skills. The subjects of this study were 6 students of grade VIII to saw the readability of the given questions. The research and development method used the Tessmer model consisted of preliminary stage self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field test. At the preliminary stage, there were two stages, namely preparation and design. The preparation of the stage was analyzing the curriculum, materials, and students' level. The design stage was done to design as questions of mathematical reasoning capabilities. The Self Evaluation stage was conducted after designed the questions of mathematical reasoning skills there were 15 questions and assesses whether the question meets the material, construction, and language. After evaluating the questions that would be validated by the expert reviewer and would be validated 3 times. After 14 questions validated that would be tested on 6 students to saw the practicality of the question through the student's responded questionnaire that was provided. Based on the result of the readability tested, the conclusion development of the questions from numbers 1 to 14 in the category of practicality were intervals of 4 ≤ RP (Produk) ≤ 5 which were classified as Very Practical.

This study aims to determine effectiveness of Multiple Intelligences (MI) strategy to the skills of imitating mathematical reasoning fourth grade students of elementari school. The research design used is quasi experimental design with form none equivalent control group design. Data analysis technique in this reasearch include independet sample t test to determine whether there is difference effect in imitating mathematical reasoning skills between the control calss and experiment class. Then, one sample t-test to determine the effectiveness of MI strategy to students’ imitating mathematical reasoning skills. Based on the result of the hypothesis test using independent sample t test, the values of treuslt is 3,351 (ttable2,032) by significance values 0,002. Next, the result of one sample t test showed the value of tresultis 7,880 (ttable 2,110) by value of significance is 0,000. Refer from the result obtained, It can be concluded 1) there are differences of students; imitating mathematical reasoning skill among the students who use the MI strategy with students who use the conventional strategy; 2) the MI strategy is effective to increase of students’ imitating mathematical reasoning skill.

As the end of the twentieth century approaches, we start to realize again the significance of proof in mathematics education. The NCTM's Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (1989) cautions against the tendency to completely abandon proofs and focus only on the end results and formulas. In this article, we reemphasize the importance of proofs in teaching by sharing some of our experiences as students and teachers in Hungary, in addition to our experiences as graduate teaching assistants at an American university. We offer examples and ideas that might help educators develop students' mathematical reasoning skills.
