Building inspection is very much required for all buildings especially those historical ones to maintain the structure condition and the safety of the people around. Visual inspection is commonly conducted using manual descriptive information carried out by the inspector personally. The problem with this technique of assessment is that the time needed to write all the defect description on site and to access difficult area can be hazardous. The aim of performing historical building inspection on Tan Swee Hoe’s historical mansion is to evaluate the overall condition of the building with Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) image assisted inspection and Condition Survey Protocol 1 (CSP1) method. From this drone assisted inspection, it shows that the time spent on site is less than half an hour and the data collected being evaluated with CSP1 method defined that the building is dilapidated. The overall building condition is in red class and require serious attention to avoid any injuries to the visitors. To prevent a possible failure of a building in the coming years, a suitable condition inspection has been carried out to identify the current existing defect so that it would be fixed before further damage to the building and visitors around it.

AbstractFeature point extraction technology has become a research hotspot in the photogrammetry and computer vision. The commonly used point feature extraction operators are SIFT operator, Forstner operator, Harris operator and Moravec operator, etc. With the high spatial resolution characteristics, UAV image is different from the traditional aviation image. Based on these characteristics of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), this paper uses several operators referred above to extract feature points from the building images, grassland images, shrubbery images, and vegetable greenhouses images. Through the practical case analysis, the performance, advantages, disadvantages and adaptability of each algorithm are compared and analyzed by considering their speed and accuracy. Finally, the suggestions of how to adapt different algorithms in diverse environment are proposed.

ABSTRACTBalikpapan, a city of oil. Despite this predicate, it suffer from high criminal level. This incude robbery, child kidnapping, female abuse that have been a great concern in many residential in Balikpapan. One of this residence is Griya Wiyata Asri III Residence. In this residence, a neigbourhood security system has been made. In this system, the resident of this residence have a shift to do a night watching. This system have been effective in the night, but in the daylight, because most of the people are in productive age, most of them working outside of this residential, make this residential empty, thus, making an opportunity for criminal to occur. To answer this probem, an unmanned aerial vehicle was built to monitor the condition of the neighbourhood. The evaluation of this preliminary stage of this community service was done merely from the results of the aerial view. This aerial view, it is so clear and can capture well the activity done in the neighbourhood in a one frame. So, this UAV have a potential to be used as aid to the neighbourhood security system which have a problem on lacking some human resources in the daylight. Keywords: UAV; security; neighbourhood.

The current level of technical development and accessibility allows to consider unmanned aerial vehicles as a reliable tool for operational monitoring of agricultural territories. Drones are able to observe territories that are inaccessible to helicopters and small aircrafts. The use of drones is associated with certain risks that affect flight safety. (Research purpose) To make recommendations on the preflight preparation of unmanned aerial vehicles. (Materials and methods) The authors used scientific literature, survey materials of domestic and foreign authors, websites of UAV manufacturers. (Results and discussion) The authors examined the issues of a drone registration, key parameters that influence data collection and ensure safe monitoring: operation and storage of drone batteries, visual inspection of a drone, sensors calibration, setting the “return home” point and checking the signal GPS/GLONASS communication quality, test flight, restricted areas and weather conditions. (Conclusions) It was established that UAV pre-flight preparation was an important stage in monitoring agricultural fields, which included a number of operations that were carried out with the aim of ensuring the safety of the operator and the unmanned aerial vehicle, as well as to obtain high-quality aerial photography materials. The authors determined that an unmanned aerial vehicle weighing from 250 grams to 30 kilograms was a object to be registered. They identified the need for specialized software, compliance with the rules of operation and storage of batteries, a thorough visual inspection of the drone, calibration of the compass; checking the setting of the return point to the beginning of the route, the GPS/GLONASS signal level, conducting a test flight, monitoring the readings of the inertial measuring unit and weather conditions, checking the zone of prohibited flights.

Building maintenance is work to undertaken to keep, restore or improve every facilities or part of building or the surround to an agreed standard. Generally the objective of building maintenance repair and replacement of any defect to maximize the building life, to balance building efficiency and also to achieve tenant satisfaction. High building are often as a landmark and inspiring structures to the owner and people. Therefore there are many specific maintenance task on high building that need to be regularly accomplish, including window cleaning, inspection and structure repair. Visual inspection is one of the processes of building maintenance. Binocular and camera are basic tools in visual inspection of high building. Graphic and photographic from the tools will be used in analyzing deterioration. Nowadays, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle - UAV not only as a hobby but it can also be used as broadcasting and also can be used as a tools in visual inspection of high buildings. The aim of this study is to test the suitability of UAVs in visual inspection. Fakulti Kejuruteraan Awam Dan Alam Sekitar, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn building was chosen in this test. The Micro-UAV was flown at a distance of 2 meters from the building envelope. The video was made during the flight. After that, these videos have been processed into an image using the snapshot.
