This article aims to demonstrate the profitability of the manufacturing companies in Kosovo impacted by the managing practices in the working capital. We use multiple regression analyses to estimate the effect of working capital indicators on profit. The Pearson correlation is used to calculate whether the variables are positively or negatively correlated and to what extent. The sample includes thirty-six manufacturing companies for the period 2012-2013. The data show that the increase in cash conversion cycle (CCC) and extension in the receivables term positively influenced operating profit and net return on assets. On the contrary, the increase in payables days had a negative effect on the operating profit and the net return on assets. The rise in inventory days led to increased profit. Therefore, the companies' competitiveness is maintained mainly by extending trade credit terms to their customers and keeping the cash engaged longer in operating activities.

The efficiency of working capital management (WCM) has implications for firms’profitability. This paper empirically investigates the effects of WCM on the profitability of a sample of 48 large manufacturing firms quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) for the period 1993 to 2005. It is aimed at filling the gaps in a previous study and contribute to expanding and enriching the literature particularly on Nigeria and at large. The analysis examined the responses of the firms’ profitability to WCM and a number of augmenting factors. Profitability was alternatively measured by gross operating profit (GOI), net operating income (NOI) and return on assets (ROA). Likewise, WCM was measured by the average collection period (ACP), average pay period (APP), inventory turnover days (ITID) and comprehensively by the cash conversion cycle (CCC). The results indicate that the firms’ have been inefficient with WCM and caused significant reductions in profitability. The paper concludes that improving the efficiency of WCM is essential and recommends that manufacturing firms in Nigeria should shorten the ACP, APP, ITID and reduce their CCCs.

In the tax audit on companies which involves transfer pricing in their transaction, tax auditor must determine benchmark companies to determine the arms length principle to be met by the companies. This study aims to analyze determinant factors of the profitability of independent manufacturing companies in Asia. Determinant factors of profitability can be used to determine the appropriate comparison companies. The study used two models with Plust net cost margin and return on assets as dependent variables of each model. Whereas, the independent variables used in this study are the ratio of operating revenue / net sales; operating profit; number of employees; payroll; total assets; tangible fixed assets; net working capital, cash and cash equivalent; other assets; geography; and industry. The results show that operating profit; net working capital; cash and cash equivalent and geography influence significantly and have been tested to determine comparator companies in determining the arms length principle.

The results showed that the Working Capital Turnover (WCT), Current Ratio (CR), and Total Assets Turnover (TATO) simultaneously had a significant effect on the Return on Assets (ROA) profitability. Partially Working Capital Turnover (WCT) has a significant negative effect on Return on Assets (ROA) profitability, Current Ratio (CR) has no effect on Return on Assets (ROA) Profitability, and Total Assets Turnover (TATO) has a significant positive effect on Return on Profitability Assets (ROA). The coefficient of determination obtained by 0.429 means that only 42.9% Profitability Return on Assets (ROA) is influenced by Working Capital Turnover (WCT), Current Ratio (CR), and Total Assets Turnover (TATO) and the rest 57.1 % is influenced by other variables.

The article examines the relation between working capital management and profitability for a sample of 66 Nigerian non-financial firms for the period 1997–2007. Trade credit policy and inventory policy are measured by number of days accounts receivable, accounts payable and inventories; and the cash conversion cycle (CCC) is used as a comprehensive measure of working capital management. The results suggest that firm’s profitability is reduced by lengthening the number of days accounts receivable, number of days of inventory and number of days accounts payable. The result shows that shortening the CCC improves the profitability of the firms.
