Crashes involving pedestrians account for a higher proportion of all road traffic crashes. So, in order to develop more effective safety measures, it is important to determine the causes of the crashes that involve pedestrians. This paper adopts an extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to predict and explain pedestrians’ intention to violate traffic rules when crossing the road. In addition to the three traditional determinants of intention (instrumental attitude, Subjective norm and perceived behavioral control), this paper analyzes the effects of sensation seeking and conformity tendency on the intention to violate traffic rules while crossing the road. In order to analyze the relationships among the aforementioned variables, a survey was conducted in Dalian City (China) and Djibouti City (Djibouti), 452 participants from Dalian City and 828 participants from Djibouti City were interviewed. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze the collected data. The results indicated that the instrumental attitude, the subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control positively affected the behavioral intention to violate traffic rules when crossing the road for both cities except for perceived behavioral control which was not significant for Dalian City. Conformity tendency and sensation seeking had a significant and positive impact on behavioral intention for Djibouti City. However, for Dalian City, conformity tendency significantly and positively affected the behavioral intention, but sensation seeking did not. Several empirical and practical implications were also discussed.

From an environmental standpoint, ecotourism has been drawn to attention by diverse communities all around the world. This empirical study aims to evaluate the behavioral intention of students by adopting an extended theory of planned behavior model by incorporating environmental concern and environmental knowledge from a developing country perspective. To get realistic output, structural equation modeling has been incorporated for systematic statistical analysis through using SMARTPLS 3.0, where data have been collected from 393 university students through a survey method. From an ecotourism point of view, a number of findings have been revealed in this study, such as students' attitude and perceived behavioral control have significant positive impacts on the behavioral intention towards ecotourism; results further proponed that environmental concerns have a significant effect on attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and behavioral intention towards ecotourism, environmental knowledge had no significant effect on the behavioral intention towards ecotourism. Finally, it had a positive impact on attitude towards ecotourism, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. On the basis of constructive analysis, theoretical and practical implications are depicted in the form of a contribution of knowledge, which will add value to the decision-making process of various stakeholders.

The way consumers think about the products they will buy determines their buying behavior. The decision to buy a particular product is obviously in accordance with the buyer’s attitude. The buyers will also feel more comfortable if their behavior meets with the approval and expectations of the people close to them. While the development of a certain attitude has no effect on subjective judgment, the effect of compromise is likely to make a contribution to its development. Since it is still unclear, this study’s main purposed is to clarify this. In addition, while an attitude is theorized as being a predictor of behavior, through behavioral intention, the study’s secondary purpose is to boost the earlier findings. Likewise, in accordance with the theory of planned behavior, the study will also examine the other predictors of behavioral intention, in relation to the behavioral intention itself. A sample consisting of a 100 respondents was compiled by using the convenience and judgment technique. The data were analyzed using Amos 16.0 and SPSS 16.0. As expected, the compromise effect had a significant influence on whether the customers’ attitude or the subjective norm was the main determinant. Likewise, the customers’ attitude, the subjective norm and perceived behavioral control were confirmed as good predictors of customers’ behavioral intentions.

The predictive value of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) on intention and physical activity (PA) over time was examined. Data from the Aging Well and Healthily intervention program (targeting perceived behavioral control and attitude, not subjective norm) were analyzed, including pretest (T0), posttest (T1, except subjective norm) and 4–6 months follow-up (T2, PA outcomes only) (N = 387, M age 72 years). Structural equation modeling was used to test a TPB model. PA was measured subjectively using the Voorrips sports subscale (T0 and T2), items measured perceived increase in PA (T1), and adherence to exercises (T1 and T2). Model fit was good. The TPB explained variation in intention well (R2 .54–.60) and some PA behavior (R2 .13–.16). The intervention successfully got participants to exercise independent of the measured TPB concepts. More TPB studies in the context of interventions are needed.

By examining the perception of a responsible gambling strategy, this study developed an extended model of goal-directed behavior (EMGB) with respect to the behavioral intentions of casino visitors. The results of the EMGB, which uses structural equation modeling, indicate that desire had the strongest relationship with casino visitors’ intention to gamble, followed by positive anticipated emotion, perceived behavioral control, perceptions of a responsible gambling strategy, negative anticipated emotion, and attitude. The perception of a responsible gambling strategy was also a significant predictor of both desire and behavioral intention, as casino visitors had positive perceptions of casinos that implemented responsible gambling strategies. Casino managers should consider a responsible gambling strategy as an important long-term business activity to increase casino visitor’s intention to gamble.

This study aimed to determine the influence of variables in TPB (attitude toward behavior, perceived behavioral control, subjective norm), religiosity, knowledge, and risk perception to intention purchase of sharia mutual fund. The sample in this study was customer of Bank Sharia XYZ of 164 customers. The analysis applied in this study was Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square. The result of this research showed that the independent variable had positive and significant influence to dependent variables attitude toward behavior and subjective norm. Religiosity and knowledge have no significant influence toward intention to purchase, while perceived behavioral control and risk perception had no significant influence with intention to purchases. The other result showed that religiosity had a positive significant influence to attitude toward behavior. The conclusion of this research shown that religiosity is the factor which influence attitude toward behavior, attitude toward behavior and subjective norm are the factors which influence intention purchase of sharia mutual fund.

Purpose The sustainable development of Islamic banking services has motivated a significant number of depositors to choose Islamic bank services instead of the conventional bank. There are various factors that can persuade the depositors’ choice to choose an Islamic bank. This paper aims to examine the factors that persuade individuals’ behavioral intention to choose Islamic bank services. Design/methodology/approach To achieve this objective, this study uses the theory of planned behavior (TPB) as the underlying theory to measure the factors that persuade the depositors’ behavioral intention to choose Islamic bank services. A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed to the Malaysian Islamic Bank’s depositors in Peninsular Malaysia. The data from the questionnaires were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings The result showed the three variables that predicted behavioral intentions of the depositors, namely, attitude (ATT), subjective norms (SN) and perceived behavioral control (PBC), were found to be significant in persuading depositors’ behavioral intention to choose Islamic bank services. Furthermore, the findings of the study also confirmed the relevance of using TPB to measure the depositors’ behavioral intention. The results could advance knowledge in the area of Islamic finance and also have positive implications for practitioners. Originality/value The study offers an insight into the present environment involving Islamic banking services which was established in Malaysia 30 years ago. In the context of the current study, the present environment refers to the depositors’ intention to opt for the service and the factors that influence the depositors to choose Islamic banking services apart from the religious factor which has been well acknowledged by a significant number of previous studies.

Contractors’ consummate performance behavior (CPB) refers to that contractors perform within the spirit of the contract. This is important to improve project performance. However, few studies have investigated why contractors would undertake CPB. Drawing on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), this study aims to examine which factors influence the intention of CPB. To achieve this, a questionnaire survey was undertaken in China, with 195 valid questionnaires from project managers and contract managers being received. Data were analyzed through structural equation modeling and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis. The results show that the intention of CPB is mainly influenced by attitude toward benefit/cooperation/social value, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. Attitude toward social value has the greatest impact on the intention of CPB, whereas the subjective norm is least effective on the intention of CPB. In addition, three equifinal combinations result in the intention of CPB. Attitude toward cooperation and subjective norm are the core of the contractors’ intention of CPB. These two factors cannot be replaced by other factors.

This study aims to investigate consumers’ decision-making process for purchasing certified aquaculture products using the theory of the planned behavior (TPB) model. Based on the TPB model, this study empirically examines the relationship among TPB constructs, namely; attitude, social norm, perceived behavioral control, and behavioral intention to purchase sustainably produced products (i.e., Aquaculture Stewardship Council-certified products). Data from a web-based survey conducted through an online survey company (960 usable response samples) are analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results indicate that all latent variables (i.e., attitude, social norm, and perceived behavioral control) positively affect consumers’ behavioral intention. More importantly, environmental awareness moderates the relationships between TPB constructs and behavioral intention. In the case of the high awareness group in this study, attitude influences behavioral intention more than social norm does. On the contrary, in the case of the low awareness group, social norm influences behavioral intention more than attitude does.

The research is determining factors which affect to consumer choice motives for purchasing pure coffee in Dalat city. The dissertation is executed through two periods: qualitative research and quantitative research. The research results show that: "Choice Motive" positively impact the "Subjective Norm" of customers (β = 0.789), "Purchase Attitude" of customers (β = 0.7053), " Perceived behavioral control " of customers (β = 0.665). And the factors "Subjective Norm" of customers (β = 0.412), "Purchase Attitude" of customers (β = 0.291) and "Perception behavior control" of consumers (β = 0.274) have a positive impact on " Intention to purchase " pure coffee of customers. The result of this research can be a document which used to reference in theory and reality through the basic argument of behavior consumers. From that, the author gives management implications for managers as well as limitations and directions for further research of the topic.

BACKGROUND Health activities should be tailored to individual lifestyles and values. To raise awareness of practical health behaviors, various practices related to health education, such as interactive activities among individuals with different backgrounds, have been developed. Moreover, serious games have been used as a tool for facilitating communication. However, studies that investigated the mechanisms of behavioral intention change in relation to health through serious games based on the framework of the theory of planned behavior are few. OBJECTIVE The study aims to investigate the mechanisms of behavioral intention change among participants of various age groups after intervention using a serious game called “Negotiate Battle,” which is established to increase awareness of lifestyle-related diseases. METHODS Three age groups (i.e., adults, university students, and high school students) played the serious game and answered a questionnaire before, immediately after, and 2–4 weeks after the game. The questionnaire was composed of four factors according to the theory of planned behavior. The study employed structural equation modeling and compared the results of the three groups. RESULTS The study found that perceived behavior control was the key factor of behavioral intention change. Immediately after the game, causal relationship from perceived behavioral control to behavioral intention was enhanced or maintained for all groups. Analysis of free descriptions after intervention suggested that experiencing dilemma is related to learning and behavioral intention. CONCLUSIONS The study revealed that the serious game changed the behavioral intention of adolescents and adults regarding lifestyle-related diseases, and changes in perceived behavioral control mediated the alteration mechanism.
