In this glossary, we aim to initiate a synthesis and standardisation of analytical terms for early wood technologies from stone-tool using cultures. This glossary and code relies upon ongoing research and experience of the authors, alongside recent publications that also undertake systematic analyses and descriptions of wood technologies and traces from stone-tool using cultures. While it forms the foundation for our ongoing analysis and documentation of the wet and conserved woods from the Pleistocene site of Schöningen (Germany), we hope it may also provide a means for collaboration and communication with those working on wood from other Pleistocene and Holocene sites.

Titanium-aluminum alloy metal matrix composites (MMC) and Ti-Al intermetallic matrix composites (IMC), reinforced with continuous SCS6 SiC fibers are leading candidates for high temperature aerospace applications such as the National Aerospace Plane (NASP). The nature of deformation at fiber / matrix interfaces is characterized in this ongoing research. One major concern is the mismatch in coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) between the Ti-based matrix and the SiC fiber. This can lead to thermal stresses upon cooling down from the temperature incurred during hot isostatic pressing (HIP), which are sufficient to cause yielding in the matrix, and/or lead to fatigue from the thermal cycling that will be incurred during application, A second concern is the load transfer, from fiber to matrix, that is required if/when fiber fracture occurs. In both cases the stresses in the matrix are most severe at the interlace.

This article aims to investigate the creation of space and sound in artistic and architectural fields, with particular emphasis on the notions of interval and duration in the production and experience of soundscapes. The discussion arises out of an ongoing research project concerning sonic structures in public places, in which Japanese uguisubari ([Formula: see text]) – ‘nightingale flooring’, an alarm system from the Edo period) plays a key role in developing new kinds of site-specific and location-responsive sonic architectural structures for urban and rural environments. This paper takes uguisubari as its frame for investigating and evaluating how sounds create a space (however temporary), and how that sound in turn is created through movement. It thus seeks to unpick aspects of the reciprocal and performative act in which participant and the space engage through movement, whilst creating a sonic environment that permeates, defines and composes the boundaries of this space. The article will develop a framework for these kinds of works through a discussion on walking, movement, soundscape and somatechnical aspects of our experience of the world, drawing upon the work of Merleau-Ponty, Bergson and the Japanese concept of Ma (space-time).

Introduction Over recent decades, two prominent trends have been observed in Canada and elsewhere: increasing prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity, and increasing participation of women (including mothers) in the paid labour force and resulting demand for child care options. While an association between child care and children's body mass index (BMI) is plausible and would have policy relevance, its existence and nature in Canada is not known. Methods Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth, we examined exposure to three types of care at age 2/3 years (care by non-relative, care by relative, care in a daycare centre) in relation to change in BMI percentile (continuous and categorical) between age 2/3 years and age 6/7 years, adjusting for health and sociodemographic correlates. Results Care by a non-relative was associated with an increase in BMI percentile between age 2/3 years and age 6/7 years for boys, and for girls from households of low income adequacy. Conclusion Considering the potential benefits of high-quality formal child care for an array of health and social outcomes and the potentially adverse effects of certain informal care options demonstrated in this study and others, our findings support calls for ongoing research on the implications of diverse child care experiences for an array of outcomes including those related to weight.

This presentation will report on an ongoing research project about the information needs of microenterprise owners in Louisiana. Microenterprises are those businesses with fewer than five employees or sole proprietorships with no employees. They exist across all industrial sectors and incorporate a wide spectrum of information needs.Cette communication présente un projet de recherche en cours s'intéressant aux besoins informationnels des propriétaires de microentreprises de la Louisiane. Les microentreprises comptent moins de cinq employés, y compris celles à propriétaire unique sans employé, et sont présentes dans tous les secteurs d'activités. Les besoins informationnels varient donc grandement.

Information use is an understudied area within information science thus strategies pertinent to using information remains understudied. However, research implicates strategically using information as a performance booster, especially within academic contexts. This paper reports on an ongoing research on information use strategies of graduate students as they attend to an identified academic task.L’utilisation et les stratégies pertinentes à l’utilisation de l’information demeurent un domaine sous-étudié en science de l’information. Cependant, la recherche implique l’utilisation stratégique de l’information comme stimulant du rendement, particulièrement en contexte scolaire. Cette communication porte sur une recherche en cours sur les stratégies d’utilisation de l’information des étudiants universitaires de 2e et 3e cycle lors d’une tâche scolaire prédéfinie.

The purpose of this study was to illuminate the experiences and understandings of adaptive physical education (APE) teachers in their implementation of the newly introduced K-13 curriculum in special needs schools (SLB) in Indonesia. This research is a replication of previous research (Sigid XXABSTRACT Setiawan, 2018) conducted with primary school physical education (PE) teachers. Twenty-six APE teachers aged 28-39 years (X = 34.04, SD = 3.46) who worked with various disabilities in SLB were involved as participants. Data collected were observations, interviews, and documentation working within a phenomenological framework. Results indicated that teachers’ experiences of the K-13 implementation were focused on (1) the acquisition of basic knowledge and competence, (2) the adoption of the scientific approach, (3) the use of authentic assessment, and (4) awareness of the supporting and inhibiting factors. The understandings arising from these experiences were that: (1) the required knowledge of APE SLB teachers could be found within the supporting government publications; (2) the scientific approach placed systematic student problem solving at its core, and; (3) authentic assessment involves a comprehensive focus on the learning and development of skills, attitudes and knowledge. A comparison of these findings with those of the primary teacher study showed that some of the additional understandings revealed by the Adapted PE teachers reflected some of the specific demands and challenges facing teachers in the context of special needs education. This research should serve as a reference for novice teachers in emphasizing that good K-13 curriculum learning at all levels must involve preparation for its implementation and its assessment. Recommendations for the value of ongoing research of this nature with a broader cohort of teachers are made.

This article exposes how STEM-based learning is applied in science class to give students meaningful learning experience in the topic of Pascal Law. This study is motivated by the demand of 21st century skill which expect people to have 4C skills; critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. In this study, STEM-based learning is conducted at a private secondary school located in Bandung with 28 students of grade 8 as the subjects. Students are provided a problem related to the application of Pascal Law namely hydraulic bridge. They are challenged to design their own hydraulic bridge which can be lifted with maximum angle but in minimum time. A descriptive study is taken where all the data is obtained through direct observation and students’ interview. Based on cognitive test, there is difference on pre-test and post-test score that resulting in the number of gain. Based on direct observation, none of students just sitting on their seat without activities and all are on collaboration to reach their goal. Students’ interview indicates they enjoy learning process as it is their first experience accomplishing a project and it makes them more understand the concept through the real application. Overall of the study, STEM-based learning through hydraulic bridge project stimulates students to be able to think critically, to be creative, to collaborate, and to communicate.
