A building construction project cannot be completed successfully by only planning and scheduling. Project controlling that consists of project monitoring and updating, is the other critical stage. Construction materials cost and quality are becoming a severe problem in Ethiopia, especially in Ambo Town, where little consideration is given. The study tried to evaluate different factors affecting the materials cost and quality on building construction site, rank significant factors that are prevalently affecting the cost and quality of materials used for building projects from the point of view of the respondents and established a model to optimize materials cost and materials quality using multilinear regression method to come up with the model best fit. Purposive sampling was used, and 180 questionnaires were administered on building construction firms to analyze Material cost Optimization and quality control Improvement- Case Study of Ambo Town. To achieve this, a questionnaire survey containing factors affecting Building construction material cost and quality, which were identified by literature and Interview, was analyzed by using the Relative Importance Index, Pearson's correlation, and Multilinear regression model. Variables are statistically significant at 95% confidence level is assessed that all of the independent variables are positively related to Building Construction material cost and quality. The RII results showed that Material Wastage minimization (RII = 0.908), Proper workmanship (RII= 0.859), Sufficient Training of workers/staff (RII = 0.876), Proper forecasting of materials price in the market (RII = 0.850), Using suitable, safe and secure storage (RII = 0.886), Quality checking for each delivery of the aggregates to the site (RII = 0.889), Cutting of materials ( glass, tiles, plywood) (RII = 0.870) and Design changes (RII = 0.770) were ranked as the most significant among factors affecting building construction materials. Also, Two Multiple linear regression models were established for both dependent variables (material cost and material quality). The analysis results showed all independent variables were significant and had a strong positive relationship with dependent variables. The values of R2 for the developed equations indicated 0.771 for material cost, and 0.777 for material quality. Hence, the basic recommendations such as planning and monitoring construction activities and inspection and verification of materials were anticipated to be exercised by key role players of the construction industry.

A prototype for an expert system in road construction material selection system, which is based on the outcomes of Friedman and multiple comparisons statistical methods was developed. The outcomes were acquired through questionnaires from selected pavement experts. The factors affecting pavement materials under each particular site condition were incorporated into the specific rules of the system. The system knowledge-base was extracted from the statistical testing outcomes and then rearranged and compiled prior to the development of the system. Visual Basic 6.0 was adopted as the programming tool for development of the system, while the knowledge-base of the separate system was kept in Microsoft Access 2000. The prototype expert system can be used to emulate part of the professional reasoning capabilities based on the knowledge of a pavement expert or a specialist to solve problems on materials selection. The system can help road designers to improve their professional ability to evaluate all available materials even before carrying out any laboratory tests.

By analyzing the points of construction process quality control in the building construction project and the relationship among quality control, cost control and schedule control, the main factors affecting the construction process quality control in the building construction project are given out, and a practical system is established. This system includes pre-construction quality planning, quality control, drawings reviewing technical tests, building products quality control, responsibility for quality and other aspects. The practical application of this system in some building construction projects proved its effectiveness in the project quality control.

The aims of this research analyzed the factors affecting the period of the students’ graduation based on GPA at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, Udayana University by using gompit regression. This data strongly indicates unbalanced between students who graduated on time and students who graduated not on time. The result of this study indicates that the graduation of the students based on the GPA categorization satisfied all of the independent variables was not significant. Meanwhile, for the graduation of the students based on the GPA categorization was highly satisfied. There are four dependent variables which are significant, such as: gender, study program, region, and the final assignment accomplishment period. Moreover, for the students’ graduation based on the GPA categorization with praises, there were two independent variables which were significant: region and the final assignment accomplishment period.

The environmental impacts have become a series of problems in today’s construction environments. Environmental conditions can have an adverse impact on the duration, cost, and quality of construction activities. This study is conducted to describe and point out the impact of the environment on building construction projects in sodo town. The contractor can estimate the Productivity loss due to the impact of environment on construction activity can be either partial or complete: partial loss is generally attributed to reduced labor productivity and work stoppage which interrupt those activities. This study organized by using questioners. The research basically focused on identifying and quantifying different environmental impacts that can affect the construction progresses. As the research result the escalation of construction material price, the availability of construction materials around the area and the involvement of different construction parties and the climatic condition of the environments are the main findings that we have got from our analysis. Generally, this research guides to meet future demands for sustainable environmental development, economic development, expansion of different construction infrastructure for sodo town. Many contractors found in this area fall over different environmental challenges. So to overcome these problems, are some requirements expected from different parties. To minimize those environmental impacts the construction parties should make a detail feasible study about the overall environmental conditions of sodo town before they decided to start up any construction works.

In Ethiopia, the rapid expansion of the construction sector has resulted in the wastage of construction materials that negatively affect the environment, society, and the economy. The reason is inefficient waste management strategies practiced in construction projects. Hence, an adequate material waste management strategy is required. This study was an attempt to identify the key techniques that can help to minimize material wastage in building construction projects. Questionnaire surveys, interviews, and reviews of previous studies and related literature were employed in gathering the relevant data. Seventy of 85 questionnaires administered and distributed to contractors, consultants, and clients were returned. These data were analyzed using the relative importance index method. The results indicated that employing waste management officers for this purpose, using prefabricated or off-site production of components, appropriate on-site waste management, and incorporating a policy of material waste minimization plan were identified as key measures to minimize construction material wastes.

Gypsum is one of the important construction materials in Iraq in plastering surfaces and gypsum board , the ability of gypsum to give a comfortable an aesthetic ambiance as a construction material increase the need of gypsum , The particle size , total surface area and particle size distribution were factors affecting plaster properties used for construction properties . In this study gypsum paste was used with different mixing ratios of particle size and studied the physical properties of these types of pastes named (standard consistency ,setting time ,density) and compressive strength . The results showed that the water to gypsum ratio increased with increasing the fineness of the gypsum to (0.75%) and the setting time to the maximum allowed according to the Iraqi standard (25 minute) when the distribution of particle size between (600-75) microns . Thus ,superplasticizer was used in more fine paste types .There is a direct relationship between setting time and the water to gypsum ratio ,but the setting time decreasing with increasing the fineness of the gypsum when the distribution of particle size between (300-75) microns. There is also a direct relationship between density and gypsum fineness . In terms of compressive resistance , it increases slightly when the particle size distribution is between (900-75) μm and increases significantly (40-42)% relatively to the reference paste with particle size distribution (300-75) μm and superplasticizer additive .Compression strength is also affected by the water to gypsum ratio ,there is an inverse relationship between them.
