Background: The use of electronic learning (e-learning) systems is gaining popularity especially within a Higher Education (HE) context. However, scholars have identified some factors that affect the utilisation and the acceptance of such systems, one of which is the gender divide, which favours mostly males ahead of females. Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the acceptance of the e-learning system within a South African HE setting, including the influential role of gender in the acceptance of such a system. Method: Quantitative data was collected through a cross-sectional survey using 113 registered final year students at a South African university who were making use of an e-learning system as part of their teaching delivery. The measuring instrument used was the technology acceptance instrument (TAI) and included measures of computer self-efficacy (CSE), perceived ease of use (PEU), perceived usefulness (PU), and behavioural intention to use (BIU). Results: The presence of a gender divide was found to exist in this study. Women’s ratings of the acceptance of e-learning systems were found to be slightly higher than those of the male respondents. In addition to this, elements of the TAI were found to be related to one another. Conclusion: The study concludes by arguing that lecturers and facilitators need to pay attention to usage patterns of e-learning systems as they affect how such systems are adopted by their students. Therefore, preceding student acceptance of electronic learning systems should be efforts to address any issues that affect the acceptance and effective utilisation of such systems.

This chapter presents a prototypal e-learning system based on the Semantic Web paradigm, called SWELS (Semantic Web E-Learning System). The chapter starts by introducing e-learning as an efficient and just-in-time tool supporting the learning processes. Then a brief description of the evolution of distance learning technologies will be provided, starting from first generation e-learning systems through the current Virtual Learning Environments and Managed Learning Environments, by underling the main differences between them and the need to introduce standards for e-learning with which to manage and overcome problems related to learning content personalization and updating. Furthermore, some limits of the traditional approaches and technologies for e-learning will be provided, by proposing the Semantic Web as an efficient and effective tool for implementing new generation e-Learning systems. In the last section of the chapter, the SWELS system is proposed by describing the methodology adopted for organizing and modeling its knowledge base, by illustrating its main functionalities, and by providing the design of the tool followed by the implementation choices. Finally, future developments of SWELS will be presented, together with some remarks regarding the benefits for the final user in using such system.

This article focuses on the implementation of the national programme "Digital Economy of the Russian Federation" and the federal project "Human Resources for the Digital Economy" in the organisation of the mining and metallurgical complex. The object of the study is e-learning systems. The subject of the study is the processes of using e-learning systems in the organization-basis of the study relating to the mining and metallurgical complex in Russia. The aim of the work is to develop recommendations for the management of organizations that are going to implement distance learning technology in the educational processes of staff. The methodology of the study includes a survey of employees of the organisation under study on the attitude and quality of training in an e-learning system. The experience of personnel training in enterprises with the help of different information systems is considered. The focus is on the analysis of the use of the training and control system "Olympox" in the organisation of the mining and metallurgy industry. The results of an employee survey are given to find out their attitude to the introduction of an electronic learning information system and to the organization of training processes in it. Recommendations on the improvement of information training systems used for personnel assessment and development are offered. Based on the results of the study, it was determined that the quality of personnel development depends on the competent combination of training in a face-to-face format with technology that allows you to practice theory in the form of tests and open questions and practice in the form of cases and exercises to practice working situations in conditions as close to the real.

The diversity of education has encouraged the incorporation of technology in education. While classroom learning is still relevant, incorporating an electronic learning (e-learning) to a course will encourage interactive learning experience. This incorporation of face-to-face classroom learning and e-learning is known as blended learning. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine students’ perceptions in learning Principle of Risk Management and Insurance as a blended learning course. This study was conducted among Part 1 students of Diploma in Actuarial Science, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Perak Branch, Tapah Campus who took Principle of Risk Management and Insurance which is a blended learning course by using questionnaire. This study proven the findings from previous researches that suggested a combination of traditional classroom learning and online learning is preferred by most students. From students’ perspective, it also depicts that blended learning offers more benefits to them and will have a positive impact on their motivation and performance to better understand the course offered.

Currently, the school children usually spend a lot of time on the games in their recreational activities and some of them are even addicted to the games. Compared with other extracurricular activities, the e-Learning system reflects the fact that school children are very interested in the games. As a result, educators have lately craved to develop effective teaching activities that allow the school children to learn some subjects and to play the games simultaneously.  Therefore, this study is based on an e-Learning system which combines the serious game by Unity3D Game Engine with augmented reality (AR). Students are able to acquire their knowledge and to foster logical skills via this game-based e-Learning system.  According to its efficacy and utilities, this study has assessed and compared the game-based e-Learning system with the traditional learning and other e-Learning systems. The experimental results have indicated that the proposed game-based e-Learning system can outperform other existing systems.

Electronic learning or online learning is a part of recent education which is dramatically used in universities all over the world. As well as the use and integration of e-learning is at the crucial stage in all developing countries. It is the most significant part of education that enhances and improves the educational system. This paper is to examine the hindrances that influence e-learning in Nigerian university system. In order to have an inclusive research, a case study research was performed in Evangel University, Akaeze, southeast of Nigeria. The paper demonstrates similar hindrances on country side. This research is a blend of questionnaires and interviews, the questionnaires was distributed to lecturers and an interview was conducted with management and information technology unit. Research had shown the use of e-learning in university education which has influenced effectively and efficiently the education system and that the University education in Nigeria is at the crucial stage of e-learning. Hence, some of the hindrances are avoiding unbeaten integration of e-learning. The aim of this research is to unravel the barriers that impede the integration of e-learning in universities in Nigeria. Nevertheless, e-learning has modified the teaching and learning approach but integration is faced with many challenges in Nigerian University.

The study's primary purpose is to explore the factors affecting the students' intention to use e-learning systems in the COVID pandemic. The model of the “Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology” (UTAUT) was used as a theoretical underpinning. The Independent variables include “performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating condition,” and the dependent variable is the intention to use e-learning systems. The quantitative data were collected from the postgraduate and undergraduate students of the public universities of Lahore. A total of n=411 students were approached, out of which the responses of only 399 were considered valid and were used for Multiple linear regression through SPSS 25. It was a cross-sectional study. It was found that almost all constructs of the model have a significant positive impact on intention to use e-learning systems.  The study's main contribution is exposing the factors that affect the acceptance and use of e-learning systems. This study has several policy implications for policy experts of higher education”.
