The study's primary purpose is to explore the factors affecting the students' intention to use e-learning systems in the COVID pandemic. The model of the “Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology” (UTAUT) was used as a theoretical underpinning. The Independent variables include “performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating condition,” and the dependent variable is the intention to use e-learning systems. The quantitative data were collected from the postgraduate and undergraduate students of the public universities of Lahore. A total of n=411 students were approached, out of which the responses of only 399 were considered valid and were used for Multiple linear regression through SPSS 25. It was a cross-sectional study. It was found that almost all constructs of the model have a significant positive impact on intention to use e-learning systems.  The study's main contribution is exposing the factors that affect the acceptance and use of e-learning systems. This study has several policy implications for policy experts of higher education”.

Objective: This paper investigates the association of information overload and social media addiction with academic attainment among a sample of college students in Kuwait as they switched from face-to-face to e-learning systems during the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure of universities and colleges made this a mandatory transition. Educators posit information overload (IO) would increase due to the ease of creating, sharing, and duplicating information through social media platforms. Method: This cross-sectional study surveyed a sample of 230 college students who participated by answering the information overload scale and Bergen social media addiction scale. Results: Data were analysed using SPSS; Correlations, t-tests, and linear regression were conducted. The findings showed an increase in information overload during e-Learning. Perceived course stress and social media addiction were significantly associated with levels of information overload. However, academic attainment was not significantly correlated nor predicated by information overload and social media addiction during e-learning. Conclusion: Information overload scores were shown to have increased during e-learning when compared to the results of a previous study. The negative consequences of information overload on students’ academic wellbeing were observed. However, more research is required on this population to devise ways to assist students to deal with information overload during the ongoing pandemic.

Introduction: Clinical Health Electives are an important part of academic curriculum in medical universities throughout the world. Electives are useful in developing personal and professional growth among students. Hence understanding the importance of electives among medical undergraduates on their academic life is important. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional based study was conducted among medical undergraduates in Karachi, Pakistan. A total number of 300 students from 3rd, 4th and 5th year of MBBS were taken as a sample. Consent was taken from the participants and questionnaire was filled from everyone. Study population was selected who did at least one clinical elective in their whole academic period. Results: According to our analysed results, undergraduate students from both private and public sector medical institutes perceived clinical electives as an advantage to themselves. Majority of the students saw their clinical and academic performances to be on a higher level. This shows that opting for electives regardless of its type (local or international) have proven to be fruitful for the undergraduates’ personal growth and academic career, allowing more scope for understudies to practice and enhance their skills they have only done a limited number of times, which inevitably leads to a steep learning curve. Conclusion: There was a positive influence of clinical electives observed among the students. Overall the academic and clinical performance of the undergraduates enhanced by opting clinical electives and has positive impact on them.

Background: Dental schools used e-learning systems to continue teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: This study aimed to determine attitudes, experiences, and barriers to e-learning during the pandemic among dental students in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study (descriptive) was performed at the Faculty of Dentistry, Umm Al-Qura University. There were 245 responses to the study questionnaire, having a response rate of 90.74%. The questionnaire was validated through a pilot study. A t-test analysis showed a significance level of 0.05. Results: Participants had moderate levels of attitudes, with the mean and standard deviation (SD) being 2.99 (SD = 1.21) to 3.41 (SD = 1.19). Clinical year students had significantly (p < 0.05) better attitudes than non-clinical year students. The most prevalent personal barrier was “lack of interaction with colleagues” (55.92%), the technical barrier was “the slowness of network” (67.35%), infrastructure/technological barrier was “low bandwidth” (67.76%), the content barrier was “impracticality of some courses” (50.61%), and the barrier related to the instructor was “difficulty contacting academic staff from home” (43.67%). About 83.27% stated that recorded lectures allowed participants to revisit the course, improving learning during the pandemic. However, only 44.08% believed e-learning provided a better opportunity to learn dental clinical procedures because of the zoom function on cameras. Conclusion: The overall attitude toward e-learning was moderate, with several barriers highlighted. Nevertheless, the e-learning system seems to have helped during the pandemic, and it might be essential for dental schools to build a hybrid teaching strategy into their curricula for consistent use.

Higher institutions are steadily advancing in facilitating teaching and learning on e-learning systems. Google Classroom is a very popular e-learning system that is been adopted by many African universities. Yet, compared to others, relevant studies with regards to Google Classroom is inadequate. This quantitative survey paper examines the predictors of continuous intention to use Google Classroom. Responses from 749 students in three Ghanaian universities were analyzed using both descriptive and Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling techniques. From the findings, Attitude towards Use mediated the impact of Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use on Continuous Intention to Use Google Classroom. Computer literacy courses for adult learners as well as enhanced usability features for visually impaired users has been recommended to relevant stakeholders.

The study investigated the prevalence of shisha-aided flavoured tobacco smoking among students in public universities in Rivers State. The study emphasized on the number of students associated with shisha use in the three public universities located in Rivers State. It is a cross-sectional study carried out among undergraduate students in public universities in Rivers State with population forty seven thousand, five hundred and seventeen (47,517) from the three (3) public universities in Rivers State, using a sample size of one thousand undergraduate students drawn through a multi-stage sampling procedure. The instrument used for data collection were 30 items structured questionnaire titled “Prevalence of Shisha-aided Flavoured Tobacco Smoking (PSFTS)” which has a reliability coefficient of 0.91 and focus group discussion. Data was analyzed using frequency and percentage for the demographic characteristics, while mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research question. While ANOVA was used to test the hypotheses at .05 alpha level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that the prevalence of shisha-aided that the prevalence of shisha-aided flavoured tobacco smoking was considerably low. The study concluded with the following recommendations that health awareness campaign/trainings among students on health risks implications and on admission of students, during orientation the universities authorities should marshal modalities to halt the use of shisha and all other forms of tobacco use. <p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0720/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

Objective: E-learning is a growing need of modern day education generally and of medical universities particularly. This study is targeted to compare and assess different perceptions of the faculty and the students towards e-learning at a public sector medical college. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Department of Medical Education, Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal. Period: 1st May 2020 to 31st May 2020. Material & Methods: The questionnaire was sent to all the participants by Whatsapp because of COVID-19 pandemic. MBBS students of 4th year and final year MBBS and all the faculty members of clinical and basic medical sciences were included in the study. The participants had to choose among options of ‘agreed, neutral and disagreed‘. Results: The response rate of faculty members was 91.66% and that of undergraduate students was 91%. Among faculty members, 34 (51.50%) were males while 32 (48.50%) were females. Female students were having majority of participation (60.40%). Most of the faculty and students were disagreed with the fact that ‘E-learning is a suitable means of education for students in Pakistan’. Though there was an overwhelming agreement of students (80%) and staff (88%) with agreement on the point that ‘information and communication technologies (ICT) play an effective role in promoting education’. Fifty three percent of students and 67% of the faculty members agreed that ‘E-learning systems can fulfill the challenging needs of present times’. Conclusion: Our study concludes that there are some reservations of both students and the faculty regarding usage of e-learning over traditional learning at public sector medical college. In our study while comparing, the majority of both the groups were having almost same opinions related to implementation of e-learning methodology.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that might influence the intention and use behaviour of e-learning systems by students in state universities in Sri Lanka. Design/methodology/approach The theoretical model for this study was primarily drawn from unified theory of acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2). Exogenous variables included performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, work life quality, hedonic motivation, internet experience and facilitating condition, and their influence on behavioural intention and use behaviour were studied. Instrument was developed using validated items from past literature. Data for this quantitative study were collected from undergraduate and postgraduate students from 15 Sri Lankan state universities by self-administering and Web-form during second quarter of 2018. Structural equation modelling was used to see the insights from the valid data using IBM’s SPSS 25 and AMOS 22. Findings Results of the confirmatory factor analysis and subsequent evaluation of the structural model confirmed the proposed hypotheses, and it was found that constructs of UTAUT2 have a significant impact on and play an important role in behavioural intention to use and use behaviour of e-learning system by state university students in Sri Lanka. Originality/value The adoption of an e-learning system in Sri Lankan state universities is fairly low. Hence, investigation of what determinants might be contributing for adoption is important to enhance the learning experience of students and help them improve their knowledge. This paper contributes by delineating the factors that influence the acceptance and use of e-learning systems by students of state universities in Sri Lanka.

The primary questions addressed in this paper are the following: what are the factors that affect students’ adoption of an e-learning system and what are the relationships among these factors? This paper investigates and identifies some of the major factors affecting students’ adoption of an e-learning system in a university in Jordan. E-learning adoption is approached from the information systems acceptance point of view. This suggests that a prior condition for learning effectively using e-learning systems is that students must actually use them. Thus, a greater knowledge of the factors that affect IT adoption and their interrelationships is a pre-cursor to a better understanding of student acceptance of e-learning systems. In turn, this will help and guide those who develop, implement, and deliver e-learning systems. In this study, an extended version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was developed to investigate the underlying factors that influence students’ decisions to use an e-learning system. The TAM was populated using data gathered from a survey of 486 undergraduate students using the Moodle based e-learning system at the Arab Open University. The model was estimated using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). A path model was developed to analyze the relationships between the factors to explain students’ adoption of the e-learning system. Whilst findings support existing literature about prior experience affecting perceptions, they also point to surprising group effects, which may merit future exploration.

Background: With the outbreak of COVID-19 in the world, E-learning systems have been introduced as the main approach to education. E-learning infrastructures (especially the educational system) largely influence the quality of education. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the quality of NAVID system as an e-learning system used in Iranian medical universities. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on the faculty members and students who were willing to participate and used NAVID system in the School of Nutrition and Food Technology of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Iran in 2020. The user experience questionnaire (UEQ) was employed to evaluate the quality and efficiency of NAVID e-learning system. The UEQ is a 26-item questionnaire with six domains of attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, motivation, and novelty, which are scored based on a Likert scale (range: +3 to -3). Data analysis was performed in SPSS version 16. Results: In total, 60 participants completed the UEQ of NAVID system. The mean scores of attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, motivation, and novelty were estimated at 0.161 ± 1.350, -0.321 ± 1.305, -0.188 ± 1.169, -0.404±0.999, 0.417 ± 1.248, and -1.101 ± 1.097, respectively. Correspondingly, NAVID e-learning system has poor quality in all the domains of user experience. Conclusions: According to the results, NAVID e-learning system should be improved in all the areas of user experience.
