Learning to write in a second language is an enormous challenge, particularly for undereducated allophone immigrant students. In this context, interventions fostering students’ engagement in writing appear to be a promising way to contribute to their learning process ( Cummins, 2009 ). Engagement in writing would be promoted by taking into account students’ multiliterate repertoires and by implementing meaningful learning contexts ( Armand, Lê et al., 2011 ). In this study, which was carried out in 12 secondary school classes for newcomers in Quebec (Canada), we assessed the effects of an intervention based on these foundations and aimed at the production of plurilingual identity texts ( Cummins et Early, 2011 ), supported by plurilingual drama workshops ( Équipes ÉRIT et ÉLODiL, 2013 ). The effects of this intervention on students’ engagement in writing were documented through participant observations and individual interviews with a sub-sample of 48 students. Results show that the production of plurilingual identity texts, especially when supported by plurilingual drama workshops, contributes more to students’ engagement in writing than traditional teaching practices used in a control group, both on an affective and cognitive level.

Many secondary school students’ second language (L2) speaking skills suffer from deficiencies; the effects thereof are detrimental to their academic and career opportunities in a globalized world that highlights the importance of oral communication skills. Debate has been considered a potentially effective speaking pedagogical tool that can scaffold learning processes in ways that can lead to language development. This study investigates the effect of a debate intervention on English L2 speaking competence of Dutch secondary school students. Following a pretest–posttest control group design, we elicited speech samples from opinion tasks which we coded in terms of measures of speech quantity, fluency, complexity, accuracy and cohesion. Multilevel analysis results indicate that after the intervention, the intervention group produced more language which was more fluent, accurate, coherent and lexically more sophisticated relative to the control group. These findings, which have significant implications for L2 speaking development, are discussed in relation to specific characteristics of L2 debate pedagogy.

In this research, the effect of using the peer instruction method in programming teaching on the secondary school student’s attitudes towards information technologies and software course and their perception of programming self-efficacy comparing to traditional teaching methods are examined. In the study, the “mixed method,” in which qualitative and quantitative research approaches were utilized together, was used. In the quantitative part of the research, the pretest-posttest control group and semi-experimental research model was used. In the research, a qualitative research design was also used to describe the different opinions and thoughts of the students about peer instruction method more detailed and in-depth. To this end, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 volunteered students from the experimental group. The study group of the research consisted of 72 sixth grade students studying in a secondary school in Turkey. In the study, it was observed that students stated opinions such as “increasing interest in lessons” and “makinglessons more fun.” However, it was observed that this situation did not reflect statistically on the results. According to the research findings, it can be said that the peer instruction method increases students’ perceptions of programming self-efficacy more than the traditional teaching method. Student views such as “the subjects are reinforced” and “the skill of expression is increased” support this situation. The students who participated in the peer instruction method stated that the process contributed to their own and their friends’ communication and that they would be pleased with the use of this method in other courses.

This study, it was aimed to determine the motivation of students to learn science according to learning styles and the effect of differentiated teaching practices on their opinions. A mixed research design consisting of a preliminary post test-tekrar test model with a control group and a qualitative data combination was used. The survey was conducted on 4th-grade students. 63 students, 30 in the experimental group and 33 in the control group, constituted the study group. The data were collected using the “Motivation Scale for Science Learning” and the “semi-structured interview form.” As a result of non-working findings, it is concluded that differentiated teaching practices according to learning styles are more effective for students’ motivation towards science learning than traditional teaching methods and that teaching-oriented student views support differentiated teaching practices.

Today's education scenario is exclusively towards OBE. The system is very much concerned about the outcome. Several modalities have been designed to provide the outcomes. Subjects are framed to meet the global standards. To enhance the learning, several teaching practices must be adopted. The cognitive level of the students differs from each other. The traditional teaching methods may not deliver the expected outcome. Updation in means of technology is required; at the same time update in the knowledge of teacher is also essential. In a nutshell, OBE concept can be achieved by framing a good syllabus, teaching methodology, teacher, assessment technique, and environment.

It is the researchers found in the second grade of SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Kartikatama Metro Lampung Indonesia, where students have difficulty in reading comprehension, so this leads to lower their learning. Therefore, to improve students' reading comprehension ability, researchers used Written Retelling Strategy (WRS) in the learning process.        The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of Retelling Written Strategy (WRS) has a positive effect on students' reading comprehension in learning English. Written Retelling Strategy (WRS) considered as one strategy that makes students more active and fun in the learning process to comprehend some text.        Forms of this research are Quantitative Research conducted in two classes. Each class is divided into the trial and reserve grade. Author implements True Experimental Design (Pure Research) by applying a pre-test and post-test as an instrument. In accordance with the method of this study, the data were analyzed using t-test that allows knowing the difference between the experimental group that used a class of written retelling strategy and the control group who did not use written retelling strategy. Finally, the research data show that t observations = 3,590 and is included in the category of high impact. Furthermore, t observation T Table consult with a significance level of 5% = 2.010 and 1% = 2,682, the data states that t observations greater than the T Table, this could mean that Hi is received. And could mean that there is a positive and significant influence between experiment class and class control on the use of written retelling strategy at second grade of Senior High School  Kartikatama Metro.
