On the basis of a system analysis of methods of total running time and wear resistance improvement of tillage tools it has been found that in 90% of cases their improvement is achieved by technological methods. In its turn, it requires the use of expensive hardening materials that results in production cost increase of final output. The solution to a problem cannot be based on using one group of methods, it requires a complex approach when using a range of available groups of methods. Correspondingly, the purpose of the research is to identify experimentally some feasible methods of total running time and wear resistance improvement of tillage tools with due regards to soil and climatic conditions of their operation. On the basis of soil and climatic conditions of tillage tools operation, the research identifies experimentally some operational, constructional and technological methods of wear resistance improvement of share and disk tools. The research results have been introduced at the agrarian enterprises of Zhytomyr oblast.

The causes of hydrogen wear of the friction surfaces involved in hydrocarbon transfer and distillation processes are considered. Some technological methods for reducing the hydrogen wear of parts and friction units operating in hydrocarbon environment are given. A comprehensive technology for obtaining the properties of the surface layer is proposed, which provides an increase in the wear resistance of a friction pair and smoothing the surface roughness. The increase in wear resistance is based on several mechanisms: (1) decreasing biographical hydrogen due to the dehydration process; (2) smoothing surface irregularities by saturating the surface with silicon; (3) reducing the diffusion capacity of the steel surface caused by diffusion siliconizing; (4) reducing grain size of the material. Comparative wear tests were carried out, which showed the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract A significant disadvantage of parts made of linear block polyurethanes under conditions of friction contact in the presence of an aqueous medium is the intensification of hydrolysis processes and decrease in volume strength. It was proposed to slow down the hydrolysis of polyurethanes in three ways: by directed changes in chemical structure, by electromagnetic radiation of different intensities and by creation of composite materials, based on the principle of additional intermolecular crosslinking at the manufacturing and hot processing stages. The conditions for the formation of a smooth wear-resistant surface that protects the material from rapid destruction are revealed.

The influence of the main structural parameters (molecular weight and hard blocks content) as well as methods of filling linear block-polyurethanes and their compositions on their strength, deformation, rheological and tribotechnical characteristics has been studied. A complex approach to produce polyurethane compositions of improved wear resistance has been suggested.

Fruits are produced in large quantities in developing countries because of the favourable climatic conditions but the level of spoilage is high. It is essential to extract and preserve fruit juice to have a regular supply throughout the year. Therefore, it was necessary to develop a machine that could be used to extract juice from several fruits. Thus, the objective of the research work was to develop a multipurpose small scale fruit juice machine that could be adopted by an average farmer in the rural regions to increase their juice intake. A fruit juice extractor was designed, developed and tested. The machine utilised a serrated auger for crushing the fruits before squeezing out the juice. The performance evaluation showed that the machine has an extraction capacity of 88.4 kg h-1 and 84.5 kg h-1 for pineapple and sweet orange respectively. The efficiencies of the juice extractor for pineapple and sweet orange were 91.13% and 85.96% respectively. The average production cost of the machine was estimated as 390 US dollars.
