The purpose of this study was to determine the unsaturated fatty acid compounds of studied oils, physico-chemical parameters, and the behavior of the four oil types during oxidation and heating. This is a part of a large study effectuated on Carnia sunflower hybrids, PR64H91, PR65A22 and PR64H45 obtained through cold pressing. We followed the evolution of the UV absorption correlated with the peroxide value. The peroxide value has been presented an increased value in the first 12 heating hours, but after this period of time, it has been decreased due to the high temperature instability of the early formed hydro-peroxides. The absorbance between 220-230 nm and the specific absorbance on 232 and 270 nm (characteristic of the conjugated dienes and trienes) have increased along the experiment period. The results were compared with those from regular sunflower oil.

Introduction: Pneumoconioses (Pc) are interstitial pulmonary diseases of professional genesis, caused by long-term inhalation of high dust concentrations. Pcafflict 26.6-53% of the workers, exposed to dust contamination. The major feature of Pc course is irrevocability and incurability. Purpose: The research of the effect of ethylmethyl hydroxypyridine succinate, possessing antioxidant and antihypoxant characteristics, on the oxygen metabolism, acid-alkaline state, and lipid peroxidation at the background of experimental pneumoconiosis in albino rats. Material and methods: Pneumoconiosis was simulated on 72 albino rats through endotracheal injection of black coal suspension, on our own modification of O. Yu. Nykolenko methodology. Results: Manifestations of experimental pneumo-coniosis depended on the period of dust inhalation. Development of experimental pneumoconiosis was found to result in the decreased partial oxygen pressure in the arterial blood, compensated hyperventilation-induced respiratory alkalosis, and marked increase in lipid peroxidation activity that could be seen in the blood content of malon-dialdehyde, as well as of conjugated dienes and trienes. Conclusions: Application of ethylmethylhydroxy pyridine succinate in experimental pneumoconiosis has been found to improve oxygen metabolism, acid-alkaline state, and lipid peroxidation that is revealed in normalization of the partial oxygen pressure in the arterial blood, oxygen saturation of haemoglobin, index of bases’ deficiency BE (Ваse-Ехсеss), and in 1.6-2.0 decrease in the content of malondialdehyde, as well as of conjugated dienes and trienes.

To evaluate the temporal relationship and potential correlation between intramuscular phosphagen levels, lipid oxidation, and extent of muscle injury, a canine gracilis muscle model was used to study the consequences of a global ischemic episode for up to 7 h duration with reperfusion for 4 h. In this model the contralateral gracilis muscle was prepared identically to the test side but was not subjected to ischemia and thus served as a control. Blood flow, oxygen consumption, and lactate and glycerol release were measured before and after 2- and 7-h ischemic stress periods. The intramuscular metabolites, glycogen, lactate, phosphocreatine, and ATP, as well as free fatty acid conjugated dienes, were measured before, during, and after the ischemic insult. A 2-h ischemic insult resulted in minimal ultrastructural damage and complete regeneration of intramuscular phosphagens and glycogen on reperfusion with complete normalization of lipid oxidation products. In contrast, a 7-h ischemic insult resulted in profound injury at the ultrastructural level with an inability to restore intramuscular phosphagens and glycogen on reperfusion. This severe muscle injury correlated with a 2.5-fold increase in lipid oxidation products (free fatty acid conjugated dienes) and a decline in ATP levels below 5 mumol/g dry wt on reperfusion. Our results emphasize the prolonged glycolytic activity of skeletal muscle during global ischemia and document the increased production of oxygen free radical-mediated lipid oxidation products in irreversibly injured muscle.

Oxidation changes of different types of vegetable oils were studied during microwave heating. Samples of vegetable oils (rapeseed, sunflower, soybean and corn oil), commercially available at the market in the Czech Republic, were heated in a microwave oven. Parameters as peroxide value, conjugated dienes and trienes levels were determined in oil samples before and after heating in the period from 3 to 30 minutes.
