The composition of English language learning tools for middle schools has often not utilized the instrctional technology approach and only used approaches related to the educational discipline of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). English language learning materials in several middle schools in East Java also do not provide audio media-based activities for practice of listening skills. This article is the research results of the Borg & Gall research and development model which aimed to develop, validate, and test textual learning materials aided by audio recordings to develop the English-language competency of middle school students. The results of the development showed that audio media was proven to be e ectively capable as sca olds that play a role as learning aids. Audio media provides sound input that guides students to imitate the audio with accurate pronunciation. In addition, audio media input can also be comprehensible for students in accordance with the Input Hypothesis Theory of Krashen that states that those learning languages at “level i” should obtain comprehensible input at “level i + 1” or slightly higher than the current level, and this theory of Krashen is identical to the zone of proximal development (ZPD) theory of Vygotsky. This development also resulted in a learning design which applied the audio lingual communicative (ALC) strategy which is eclectic in its combination of two language learning strategies, which are the audio lingual method with communicative language teaching (CLT). The application of this method was appropriate with the Indonesian classroom context where the number of students in a classroom is on average 40 pupils or more.

This article deals with the issue of the features of pronunciation in teaching English specifically on the pronunciation difficulties of Uzbek learners. An important aspect in learning a particular language is pronunciation. Based on the explanatory Dictionary of Contemporary English Longman, pronunciation is a particular person’s way of pronouncing a word or words. In English language, there are not one-to-one correspondence between the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they represent. It is the aptness in pronunciation that makes our language comprehensible to others. Therefore, apart from grammar and spelling, one has to concentrate on pronunciation as well. There are some problems for foreign learners like age and perception as well. Very often students mispronounce the words, distort the pronunciation because they are not involved into the conscious approach of practicing sounds, words and sentences, instead, they are simply made to parrot out sounds and words without realizing what they are doing. In fact, training English pronunciation is necessary from the very beginning of learning a foreign language. Otherwise, it will be quite difficult to correct and make up for the fixed errors. Everyone faced the problem of pronunciation in the initial stages of language learning. It is important from the beginning of training to master sound speech, to learn how to pronounce sounds like native speakers do. In addition, the article considers the problem of interference and notes the most typical mistakes made by Uzbek learners when pronouncing English vowels and consonants. The goal of this article is mainly aimed at teaching and mastering the simplest and easiest ways of correct pronunciation of the studied language.

Taking a historical perspective, this article documents the development of domestically produced English Language Learning (ELL) materials in the period between 1945 and 2013. To this end, reference is made to milestones that marked shifts in linguistic and foreign language teaching paradigms, including aspects of Method and the underlying conception of language. The analysis will draw on aspects of Method in relation to language policy documents (i.e., curricula) and the course books in which these principles are embodied. Through the analysis of these factors we trace the evolution from Grammar–Translation methodology to Communicative Language Teaching in locally produced textbooks which are representative of various historical periods.

This review paper aims at giving a short outline regarding the examination of Teaching English Language instructing and teaching English Language as a Foreign Language (TEFL) between Indonesia and Singapore. The review based its analysis on a few elements which affect instructing and learning TEFL in the Indonesian context and Singapore, i.e., educator capabilities, teaching English language capability, homeroom size, understudies' inspiration, study hall situated learning, and restricted wellsprings of learning. The review highlighted that these are the factors which give impact on instructing and learning achievement. The review conducted its analysis under few limitations at work between language strategy and language encouraging study hall rehearsed in the two nations. This paper points out that understudies have different inspirations and foundation qualities altogether, making it hard to plan as an asset to a solitary educational program which will suit all (or at least most) understudies of the nation. Moreover, financial support for educators, resourcing, and the probability of huge class capacity in the Indonesian context appear differently in relation to Singapore. Low instructor compensations in Indonesia cause most educators to work in extra positions that lessen the time they can allot for exercise arrangement, endeavors to create practices and undertaking advancement by upgrading expert information, whereas instructors in Singapore are doing the full education time. Finally, the strategy and educational plan legislative issues have a significant impact on TEFL examination, thus understanding and correctly implementing them needs to be a requirement to language learning.

Teaching English as Foreign Language (EFL) is quite challenging because teachers should prepare materials properly as well as the teaching technique that will be applied in EFL classroom. The teachers should also pay attention to the communicative purpose of teaching EFL. This study investigates the application of teaching techniques and approaches done by EFL teacher. The researcher observed the teaching techniques applied by the lecturer as well as teaching learning process experienced by college students in English for Business classroom. Based on the research findings and discussions, it can be inferred that the lecturer applied Communicative Language Teaching and Participatory Technique which are involved in two different approaches in his class of English for Business. The two approaches are communicative and participatory approaches. Those two are applicable and appropriate to be conducted in the classroom of students in higher education. Further, it is suggested for EFL teachers to consider the classroom condition in deciding what teaching techniques to be applied. Further, the communicative purpose of language learning is supposed to be the main consideration for the teachers since the students are supposed to use English language communicatively in context.
