The purpose of the study is to highlight the theoretical and methodological aspects of preparing the test questions of the most common types in the form of text files for further import into learning management system (LMS) Moodle. The subject of the research is the automated filling of the Moodle LMS test database. The objectives of the study: to analyze the import files of test questions, their advantages and disadvantages; to develop guidelines for the preparation of test questions of common types in the form of text files for further import into Moodle LMS. The action algorithms for importing questions and instructions for submitting question files in such formats as Aiken, GIFT, Moodle XML, “True/False” questions, “Multiple Choice” (one of many and many of many), “Matching”, with an open answer — “Numerical” or “Short answer” and “Essay” are offered in this article. The formats for submitting questions, examples of its designing and developed questions were demonstrated in view mode in Moodle LMS.

There is a big gap between level of multimedia possibilities and level of using multimedia in training physics at the universities. In this paper the advantages and disadvantages of Power Point physics lectures are described. It is noted that one from important advantages is coordination of Power Point with Learning Management System. The examples of writing formulas, drawing graphics in time are presented in this paper. It is described the animated image illustrating the operation of a heat engine with the help of aniline drop. Test results allow us to give in this paper some guidelines on slide design to make information perceiving from the screen easier for students.

The article examines the suitability of using learning management system Moodle as tools for organizing pre-service English teachers' self-study work at improving their phonological competency. As a result of analysis of the main advantages and disadvantages of developing, programming and using the existing multimedia computer courses it was concluded that the revealed disadvantages can be solved by their adaptation and reproduction on distance learning platform Moodle. A reflexive model of improving phonological competency in self-study work is suggested as the basis for exercises and tasks arrangement to improve teachers' to be pronunciation. The structure of the multimedia computer course «Sound English» is analyzed in detail, and the ways of its implementation on learning management system Moodle are suggested, in particular, distribution of learning material into modules and their smaller structural units – cycles. The notion «learning objects» is examined; the advantages of their use and the peculiarities of combination on different levels are given. To implement the seven stages of improving phonological competency the available types of activities in learning management system Moodle were analyzed. The following activities suitable for pronunciation improvement in self-study work are picked out: Read aloud, Questionnaire, Workshop, Lesson, Quiz, Glossary, Assignment. These types of activities are correlated with the multimedia computer course «Sound English» cycle headings: Watch Video, Check Pronunciation, Review Pronunciation Rules, Do Exercises, See Progress. To optimize the process of control and self-control of students' self-study work it is suggested to use self-monitoring worksheets, training questionnaires, and learning diaries. An algorithm of doing the exercises and tasks for improving phonological competency with the use of the system of learning management Moodle is suggested.

AbstractThis paper is about a distance education subject redesign undertaken in School of Information Studies at Charles Sturt University. This paper presents a theoretical framework supporting a constructive alignment in subject redesign grounded on some valuable learning theories, namely social constructivism, cooperative learning and collaborative learning. The theoretical framework guided the redesign of a postgraduate subject INF441 Information Management in Organizations. In the subject redesign, constructive alignment for learning environment, intended learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities and assessment tasks were carefully checked. The paper reports the effects of the subject learning design after the subject was subsequently taught by the same designer in the role of a subject coordinator/lecturer. Group work tools in CSU Interact (a learning management system using Sakai) were able to create an appropriate learning environment for the successful running of the subject. The subject redesign created an effective beneficial learning environment in the presence of the affordance of the learning management system ‘CSU Interact’.

Learning how to program is becoming essential in many disciplines. However, programming cannot be easily learned, especially by non-engineering students. It is challenging to conduct engineering education for non-engineering majored students. Therefore, it is important to teach non-engineering students to learn with efficient learning strategies. To discover an efficient learning strategy, we had 64 students practice programming with a simple learning management system and tracked all of their practice behaviors on multiple choice questions. The learning management system assigned one multiple choice question per day, but let students themselves decide their own practice frequencies. Students could also make unsynchronized communications by commenting on the questions. By analyzing their behavior patterns and other performance indicators, this paper compared the effect of two different practice strategies for multiple choice questions: distributed practice and massed practice. Our analysis found that students who adopted distributed practice significantly outperformed those who adopted massed practice on final exams (p=0.031). We further explored the possible reasons that led to this significant difference. Students who adopted distributed practice strategy tended to make higher percentage of first submission correctness, be more cautious while correcting errors, and be more constructive in posting question-related comments.
