Wood supply for the Aubrugg wood-fired combined heating-and-power-plant by Zürich Holz AG – experience so far The article addresses wood supply for a large heating plant in Switzerland, delivered by Zürich Holz AG. It describes the role of the supplier, in this case a wood marketing company, owned by the forest owners, in preparing and delivering the contracted volumes. Important factors in the success (so far) of the supply system are the reliable supply of the contracted volumes by the suppliers as well as careful organisation and monitoring of deliveries. The commercial success is based on systematic reference to the energy content of the wood. The article also addresses the measures put in place to guard against possible future reductions in wood availability.

In the years since 2000, the authorities in charge of forests in canton Vaud have made some substantial changes as a reaction to the political decisions arising from the Swiss Forest Programme and the projected revision of the Federal forestry Law, as well as to the deterioration of the economic situation in forestry enterprises. This article gives a survey of the directions taken. Thus the canton recognises the primordial role of wood production as a driving force behind the creation of a multifunctional forest. The Service for Forests, Wildlife and Nature has invested a great deal in planning, and has redefined the management plan to be an instrument intended for forest owners and forest managers. The canton has innovated by introducing forestry groups and a scheme of equalisation of forestry costs between communes. Hence the conception of forestry management in canton Vaud is resolutely that of a multifunctional natural heritage.

This chapter discusses the 1949 film A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, starring Bing Crosby. This later film does not adapt the Rodgers and Hart musical; instead, it acts as a star vehicle for Crosby and features new songs by Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke. Less influential and enduring than the other works featured within this book, this 1949 film nonetheless provides an interesting counterpoint to the Rodgers and Hart revival of a few years before. The film was a commercial success, and this chapter considers it in that light. Furthermore, the author examines the role of Bing Crosby and considers the purpose of this musical film as a star vehicle. With Crosby singing in four of the five surviving songs within the film, the music utilizes the crooner’s voice and star persona in order to tell the story and sell the film.

Arctic Shaman Circle was founded in Oslo in November 2018. This article discusses what the Circle’s founding document refers to as “spiritual activism”, and how this was translated into action over the year that followed. I will follow one case in particular, which concerns plans for a power plant at the base of the mountain Aahkansnjurhtjie in the South Sámi area. Aahkansnjurhtjie is a sacred Sámi mountain, the shamans claim, and should be protected accordingly. My focus is on the learning processes that have emerged as the shamans have explored and argued the case, locally and nationally. I examine the negotiations that have happened along the way, in a political climate that has so far been hostile to religious arguments of any sorts, and in this example, involves a group that is contested among the Sámi. Finally, I look at the role of “indigeneity” in regard to claims, performances and responses to these particular concerns, as these have played out in different parts of the Sámi geography.
