The article analyses domestic experience in the design and construction of shelters for domestic violence victims and the possibility of new construction. The directors of Ukrainian shelters and hotline managers were interviewed. The existing shelters for mothers and children were analysed, the main architectural and planning features were determined.  Domestic and foreign scientific works were analysed. The research topic is relevant due to the social need of shelters for domestic violence victims. Currently, such institutions are to be established as more and more cases of domestic violence are being recorded every day, therefore the shelter can become the «island» for protection, safety, rehabilitation and assistance. A modern shelter for people suffering from domestic violence is a conceptually new type of social housing. The main difference between shelters and crisis rooms is the time of stay, comfort and security levels. The time spent in crisis rooms is 7-10 days, in shelters - 1-3 months, if necessary, it can be 6 months.  Crisis rooms are equipped with individual accommodation for each person or family in a difficult life situation and look like mini-apartments with their own bedroom, small kitchen and bathroom.  In shelters, most often, it is one common room for two people, a shared kitchen-dining room and a bathroom with shower. These differences significantly affect the architectural and planning organization of each institution. The study revealed that shelters in Ukraine are usually part of other social structures, only a few operate as separate institutions. Most often they occupy one wing of a one-storey house, or one of the floors of a two-storey building.  Shelters provide assistance with housing, food, recreational sites for children, legal, psychological, rehabilitative and, if necessary, medical assistance. The vast majority of shelters are located in the central part of the city. The purpose of this study is to identify the best features in the architectural and planning organization of such institutions in Ukraine.

The subject of this article is an ideal city in Italy of the Early Renaissance. Starting with the first decades of the 15th century the erecting a new buildings at cities, primarily in Florence which was at that time a very progressive part of Italy, could be seen as a tendency to realize a perfect city on the basis of humanistic conceptions. Even the real situation when medieval patterns of planning and building combined with Renaissance elements in Florence was interpreted from an idealized perspective: the social and political superiority of Florentine Republic seems interflowed with its perfect appearance. Despite the fact that a new type of the city as architectural and planning whole was not devised in Renaissance Italy, the model of an ideal city was being successfully developed there in Quattrocento treatises on architecture and vedutas. The author of this article examines the principles underlying the idea of such city with optimal potentialities for man to fulfill its predestination on Earth as it was presented concepts of humanism.

This study aims to understand when and how domestic violence victims’ relational autonomy changes and to propose an intervention model stemming from the findings. Using qualitative and social network analysis, we study the actions of network members, as well as changing features of victims’ networks. Results show that victims base their decisions on their expectations toward others, and on a desire to preserve their autonomy. Their relational autonomy tends to increase when they leave abusive partners and stay in shelters, but maintaining relational diversity proves challenging once they exit shelters. A network-based model of intervention that aims to improve the victims’ relational autonomy is proposed.

The subject of this article is an ideal city in Italy of the Early Renaissance. The article examines the place and role of women in the social life of London in the 14th–15th centuries based on the material of the original sources. It is shown that, despite the restrictions fixed by custom and laws on the social activity of women, the range of occupations of the townsmen –wives and widows – was unusually wide. It is craft and trade, including the right to take apprentices, real estate transactions, and financial deals. Women did not just help men in the craft or trade shops, but also worked independently. The status of women, especially married women, who chose to participate in trade or in town production as their main occupation, was never fully developed. A significant degradation in the position of women in the public sphere in London occurred in the 16th century. The author concludes that, despite all the difficulties, a new type of woman was gradually developed in the city – energetic, enterprising, educated, who acts in society as an independent head of the family and business.

The concept of citizenship was introduced to the Arab and Islamic region duringthe colonial period. The law of citizenship, like all other laws and regulations inthe Middle East, was influenced by the colonial legacy that impacted the tribal and paternalistic systems in all aspects of life. In addition to the colonial legacy, most constitutions in the Middle East draw on the Islamic shari’a (law) as a major source of legislation, which in turn enhances the paternalistic system in the social sector in all its dimensions, as manifested in many individual laws and the legislative processes with respect to family status issues. Family is considered the nucleus of society in most Middle Eastern countries, and this is specifically reflected in the personal status codes. In the name of this legal principle, women’s submission is being entrenched, along with censorship over her body, control of her reproductive role, sexual life, and fertility.
