Education is an important instrument of change; though the process is usually very slow - very different from revolution - and its broad impact cannot easily and clearly observed. Good and balanced education will expectedly have a good impact on society, economy and politics; while, bad policy and culture of education will accordingly have the opposite effect. This article analyses the change in religious education in the Abbasid realm in the 11th and 12th centuries and its relation with the socio-political change in the region. This study finds that those changes were approximately concurrent and suggests mutual influence between them. For deeper analysis, this study uses the concept of education proposed by Syed Muhammad Naquib (SMN) al-Attas.

A characteristic feature of the spatial structure of Crimean pine understory (Pinus pallasicma D. Don) coenopopulations is the uneven density of population fields, which has a fairly strong influence on the plants growth and development. As a rule, on the understory biogroup periphery there are individuals noticeably lagging in growth. With a significant density of plants and a high level of intraspecific competition in the biogroup center, the opposite effect is observed by the researchers. So far, there is no explanation for the mechanism of such differentiation of plants confined to different, sometimes diametrically opposite environmental conditions. Therefore we studied the anatomical and morphological structure of plants confined to diffuse competition zones, as well as non-closed canopy cultures of Crimean pine with low capacity for survival. The results of microscopic studies allowed us to discover deformed vascular tissues of the understory confined to the diffuse competition zones of existing cenopopulations. In each case, the level of vascular tissues deformation will depend on the features of cenopopulations mutual influence, the autoregulation of its structure in accordance with the capacity of the ecological niche.

This chapter examines the beginning and expansion of Anglican women’s ministry under the Chung Hua Sheng Kung Hui against the backdrop of rapid social and political change in China. It discusses the work of the Women’s Missionary Service League (WMSL) and the Mother’s Union from the 1920s to 1940s in different provinces, and their contribution to building the Chinese Anglican church. It explores in great detail the activities the WMSL and Mother’s Union organised, which covered the areas of spiritual formation, social service, evangelism, literacy education, religious education and war relief work. The significant role of Christian mothers in their children’s religious education was particularly highlighted in the promotion of Christian family as foundation of the church.

Summary: My comment is basically restricted to the situation in which less-able students find themselves and refers only to literature in German. From this point of view I am basically able to confirm Marsh's results. It must, however, be said that with less-able pupils the opposite effect can be found: Levels of self-esteem in these pupils are raised, at least temporarily, by separate instruction, academic performance however drops; combined instruction, on the other hand, leads to improved academic performance, while levels of self-esteem drop. Apparently, the positive self-image of less-able pupils who receive separate instruction does not bring about the potential enhancement of academic performance one might expect from high-ability pupils receiving separate instruction. To resolve the dilemma, it is proposed that individual progress in learning be accentuated, and that comparisons with others be dispensed with. This fosters a self-image that can in equal measure be realistic and optimistic.

Abstract. Two experiments tested the hypothesis that self-evaluation can serve as a source of interpersonal attitudes. In the first study, self-evaluation was manipulated by means of false feedback. A subsequent learning phase demonstrated that the co-occurrence of the self with another individual influenced the evaluation of this previously neutral target. Whereas evaluative self-target similarity increased under conditions of negative self-evaluation, an opposite effect emerged in the positive self-evaluation group. A second study replicated these findings and showed that the difference between positive and negative self-evaluation conditions disappeared when a load manipulation was applied. The implications of self-evaluation for attitude formation processes are discussed.
