Background. Experimental exploitation of ores from the Sukhoi Log deposit has shown that its geology and structure requires elucidation.Aim. To study the geology and structure of the Sukhoi Log deposit and to determine the main mineralisation patterns in the plan, on the flanks and at depth. This information can be useful when mining gold both directly at the deposit and when prospecting new deposits on its flanks.Materials and methods. The existing maps, diagrams, sketches and block diagrams describing ore bodies and their behaviour in plan and at depth were used. A new structural layout of mineralisation at the Sukhoi Log deposit, both on its flanks and at depth was built.Results. The gold mineralisation in the Sukholozhskaya and Verninsko-Nevskaya ore-bearing areas is controlled by various elements of the fracture structure. At the same time, in the Sukholozhskaya area, the mineralisation is confined to a thick zone of a sublatitudinal shingled thrust-fault zone, in places accommodating a narrow strip of small faults, slip planes and fracturing in the northwestern direction. The fracture strip intersects sub-latitudinally laying Riphean argillaceous-shale rocks of the Khomolkhin formation approximately in the middle part of the field. The shingled thrust-fault zone accommodates the fissure faults, which open during mineralisation of the north-west extension, and flattens out. Its thickness in some places reaches 130 m. In the curved and flattened thrust interval, an ore gold-arsenopyrite-pyrite-quartz formation is localised, morphologically resembling a “thick pillow” with a thickness of 130 m. It bends and gently plunges in the north-north-east direction. The bulk of gold reserves is contained in this ore formation. The ores of the vein-disseminated type, veinlet and vein formations are the richest formations. Between them, the dissemination of gold-bearing pyrite and subordinate arsenopyrite is always manifested. The boundary of industrial mineralisation is determined by the density of the interveinous ore.On the western flank of the deposit, within the bounds of another — Ugakhan — deposit, vein and vein gold-quartz-pyrrhotite ores are found at a deeper level. Here, the search for Sukholozhsky pyrite-quartz ores (if they even existed) is not promising, since they were eroded long time ago, and the liberated gold was concentrated in placers. Prospecting is promising only along the Bezymyanny ore-controlling fault, which directly limits the western flank of the Sukholozhskoye deposit.The mineralisation of the Verninsk-Nevsky area is controlled by the Verninsky Fault of the east–north-east extension and separated by a series of single feathering ore-bearing overthrust zones of the east-west extension. To the east, this mineralisation gradually decreases. The search for the Sukholozhsk type ores is more promising on the eastern side of the Nyrli river, 2 km east of the fault of the same name and 7 km north of the Verninskoye deposit near a small, poorly explored area with commercial gold mineralization, marked on the deposit map with a sign TM.Conclusion. The main geological and structural laws of the localisation of gold ores were determined, which could be useful when conducting exploration works on the flanks of the deposit.

During ore geological studies in Washington Land by one of us (B.T.), finds of erratics of banded iron formation (BIF) directed special attention to the till, glaciofluvial and fluvial sediments. This led to the discovery that in certain parts of Daugaard-Jensen Land and Washington Land volcanic rocks form a common component of the surficial deposits, with particularly colourful, red porphyries catching the eye. The presence of BIF is interesting but not altogether unexpected since BIF erratics have been reported from southern Hall Land just to the north-east (Kelly & Bennike 1992) and such rocks crop out in the Precambrian shield of North-West Greenland to the south (Fig. 1; Dawes 1991). On the other hand, the presence of volcanic erratics was unexpected and stimulated the work reported on here.

Early in 1963 much of the land occupied by the Roman building at Fishbourne was purchased by Mr. I. D. Margary, M.A., F.S.A., and was given to the Sussex Archaeological Trust. The Fishbourne Committee of the trust was set up to administer the future of the site. The third season's excavation, carried out at the desire of this committee, was again organized by the Chichester Civic Society.1 About fifty volunteers a day were employed from 24th July to 3rd September. Excavation concentrated upon three main areas; the orchard south of the east wing excavated in 1962, the west end of the north wing, and the west wing. In addition, trial trenches were dug at the north-east and north-west extremities of the building and in the area to the north of the north wing. The work of supervision was carried out by Miss F. Pierce, M.A., Mr. B. Morley, Mr. A. B. Norton, B.A., and Mr. J. P. Wild, B.A. Photography was organized by Mr. D. B. Baker and Mrs. F. A. Cunliffe took charge of the pottery and finds.


In this paper the author investigates the periodical variations of the winds, rain and temperature, corresponding to the conditions of the moon’s declination, in a manner similar to that he has already followed in the case of the barometrical variations, on a period of years extending from 1815 to 1832 inclusive. In each case he gives tables of the average quantities for each week, at the middle of which the moon is in the equator, or else has either attained its maximum north or south declination. He thus finds that a north-east wind is most promoted by the constant solar influence which causes it, when the moon is about the equator, going from north to south; that a south-east wind, in like manner, prevails most when the moon is proceeding to acquire a southern declination ; that winds from the south and west blow more when the moon is in her mean degrees of declination, going either way, than with a full north or south declination ; and that a north-west wind, the common summer and fair weather wind of the climate, affects, in like manner, the mean declination, in either direction, in preference to the north or south, and most when the moon is coming north. He finds the average annual depth of rain, falling in the neighbourhood of London, is 25’17 inches.

It lies to the north-west of continental Europe and to the west of Great Britain. The Republic of Ireland covers five-sixths of the island; Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, is in the north-east. Twenty-six of the 32 counties are in the Republic of Ireland, which has a population of 4.2 million, and its capital is Dublin. The other six counties are in Northern Ireland, which has a population of 1.75 million, and its capital is Belfast. In 1973 both parts of Ireland joined the European Economic Community. This article looks at psychiatry in the Republic of Ireland.

The Cyclopean Terrace Building lies to the north-west of the Lion Gate on the northern end of the Panagia Ridge and faces almost due west across the valley of the Kephissos and modern main road from Corinth to Argos. It lies just below the 200 m. contour line, and one terrace below the houses excavated in 1950–51 by Dr. Papadimitriou and Mr. Petsas to the east at the same end of the ridge. The area contains a complex of buildings, both successive and contemporary, and in view of the discovery of structures both to the south-west and, by the Greek Archaeological Service, to the north-east it is likely that this whole slope was covered by a portion of the outer town of Mycenae. This report will deal only with the structure to which the name Cyclopean Terrace Building was originally given, the so-called ‘North Megaron’, supported by the heavy main terrace wall.The excavation of this structure was begun in 1923. The main terrace wall was cleared and two L.H. IIIC burials discovered in the top of the fill in the south room. In 1950 it was decided to attempt to clear this building entirely in an endeavour to find out its date and purpose. The clearing was not, however, substantially completed until the close of the 1953 excavation season, and this report presents the available evidence for the date as determined by the pottery found beneath the building; the purpose is still a matter for study, though various tentative conclusions can be put forward.

A multidisciplinary provenance study was conducted on stream sediment samples from major rivers in the eastern part of Labrador, Canada (Fig. 1). Th e purpose was to fi ngerprint the sources that deliver material to the stream sediments and to the reservoir sand units deposited off shore in the sedimentary basins in the Labrador Sea. We used a multimineral U-Pb geochronological approach employing rutile and titanite in addition to zircon to obtain unbiased age data. Th e purpose of this was to characterise the diff erent igneous and metamorphic episodes that occurred in Labrador, which is an area with highly variable geology characterised by the Palaeoproterozoic south-eastern Churchill province in the north-west, the Archaean Nain plutonic suite in the north-east, the Palaeoproterozoic Makkovik province in the east and the Mesoproterozoic Grenville Province to the south. Th e fi eld work was carried out in 2012 and 2013 and the study is a collaborative project between the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland and the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador. In this paper we focus on three samples from the southern part of the study area where two parts of the Grenville orogeny are found (Fig. 1).

The industrial policy in the UK and in Portugal, as in most EU countries, seeks to attract new investment capacity, to create jobs and to promote the impact of the so-called "demonstration efect" of "greenfield" development strategies pursued in the new plants of inward investors on existing or "brownfield" plants. This industrial policy focus is particularly evident in the automobile industry.This paper compares the industrial policy oriented towards the automobile industry in the UK and in Portugal. Two recent "greenfield" investments are analised: Nissan in the North-East region (UK) and Ford/VW in the Setúbal Peninsula (Portugal), as well as three "brownfield" plants: Ford Halewood and GM Vauxhall Ellesmere Port in the North-West region (UK) and Renault in Setúbal (Portugal). The first part starts with a discussion of industrial policy in the automobile sector, the role of "greenfield" development strategies and the "demonstration effect" on "brownfield" plants. Then, the limits of new inward investment are pointed out, basically their problems and restrictions. Afterwards, the structural barriers to the "demonstration effect" within "brownfield" plants are outlined and some possabilities for alternative "brownfield" development strategies are presented.

February 18, 2021, a flank eruption started on the north-western slope of the Klyuchevskoy Volcano (Kamchatka, Russia). Cinder cone was formed at the altitude of 2 850 m above sea level, from which a lava flow was spreading north-west. Having moved 1.2 km downslope, the lava flow entered the Ehrmann Glacier, which resulted in the formation of huge mud-stone flows. The latter made their way further north-east along the Kruten’kaya River bed and reached the length of about 30 km. The eruption brought onto the surface high-aluminous basaltic andesites typical of the Klyuchevskoy Volcano. By March 21, the flank eruption ended. It has been named after G.S. Gorshkov, associate member of USSR Academy of Science, famous Russian volcanologist.

Information on the geological and isotopic age of the Kubaka gold-silver deposit in the Omolon middle massif in the North-East of Russia is presented. It has been established that the Kubaka deposit geological age lies in between the Late Devonian age of the Kedon series volcanites, containing the gold-silver mineralization, and the Early Carboniferous age of the Korbinsky suite terrigenous rocks, overlapping the volcanites and the mineralization. The post-ore nature of the Omolon complex dykes, which produce no significant impact on the distribution of gold mineralization in ore bodies, is shown. According to isotope dating, the following stages of the Kubaka deposit formation are distinguished: the accumulation of the Kubaka suite tuffs (369 Ma); the introduction of subvolcanic intrusions (344 and 337 Ma); the formation of ore metasomatites (335±5 Ma); the formation of gold-silver mineralization (330 and 334 - 324 Ma); the introduction of post-ore dikes (179±8 - 176±10 Ma).

The buildings on the citadel of Nimrud, ancient Kalah or Kalḫu, constitute a most impressive monument (Fig. 1; Postgate and Reade 1980), but the sporadic way in which they have been excavated leaves many questions unanswered. One puzzling area lies north and north-east of the great North-West Palace. It includes the ziggurrat, and the shrines of Ninurta, of Ištar Šarrat Nipḫi (formerly read Bēlat Māti) and of the Kidmuri (or Ištar Bēlat Kidmuri). Their interrelationships have yet to be established, and texts refer to further gods resident at Kalah. Excavations in this quarter were conducted by Layard, Rassam, Rawlinson, Loftus and Smith in the nineteenth century, and by Mallowan in the 1950s, and were resumed by staff of the Iraq Directorate-General of Antiquities in the early 1970s. This paper summarizes some of what we know or may deduce about the area, and defines some of the remaining problems; it does not include, except in passing, the relatively well-known Nabû Temple to the south. I have endeavoured to refer to all items except sherds found during British excavations in the area, but have not attempted the detailed publication which many of the objects, groups of objects, and pottery records may merit.A possible arrangement of the buildings in this area of Nimrud about 800 BC is given in Fig. 2, but it is a reconstruction from inadequate evidence. The relative dates, dimensions, locations and orientations of many excavated structures are arguable, and the plans published by different excavators cannot be fully reconciled. Major uncertainties concern the ziggurrat, the citadel-wall, the Kidmuri shrine and the area between the North-West Palace and the Ninurta shrine. There are many minor uncertainties. My reconstruction includes speculative features, while omitting some excavated walls which I regard as secondary.
