Permanent Scatterer InSAR (PSInSAR) technique is used commonly to evaluate land subsidence for some cities in the world and the pilot project in Ho Chi Minh City has shown the capability of this technique for mapping land subsidence in the period from 2006 to 2010. The result shows that PSInSAR can be applied to study the land subsidence phenomenon more efficiently than any traditional methods. However, SAR data often are commercial images such as ERS, ALOS, COSMO SkyMed… that a large number of SAR scenes must be collected to ensure the best results. This paper introduces results of the average subsidence velocities in Ho Chi Minh City that PSInSAR technique is applied to process SAR data from Sentinel-1 and COSMO SkyMed satellite. Evaluating the preliminary result showed that the capacity of using free Sentinel-1 images to replace commercial images for monitoring land subsidence.

OverviewMachine learning (ML) is rapidly being adopted by archaeologists interested in analyzing a range of geospatial, material cultural, textual, natural, and artistic data. The algorithms are particularly suited toward rapid identification and classification of archaeological features and objects. The results of these new studies include identification of many new sites around the world and improved classification of large archaeological datasets. ML fits well with more traditional methods used in archaeological analysis, and it remains subject to both the benefits and difficulties of those approaches. Small datasets associated with archaeological work make ML vulnerable to hidden complexity, systemic bias, and high validation costs if not managed appropriately. ML's scalability, flexibility, and rapid development, however, make it an essential part of twenty-first-century archaeological practice. This review briefly describes what ML is, how it is being used in archaeology today, and where it might be used in the future for archaeological purposes.

AbstractThis paper explores how horses are represented in the discourses of "natural horsemanship" (NH), an approach to training and handling horses that advocates see as better (kinder, more gentle) than traditional methods. In speaking about their horses, NH enthusiasts move between two registers: On one hand, they use a quasi-scientific narrative, relying on terms and ideas drawn from ethology, to explain the instinctive behavior of horses. Within this mode of narrative, the horse is "other" and must be understood through the human learning to communicate and through appropriate training. On the other hand, NH enthusiasts—like many horse owners—seek to emphasize partnership. In this type of discourse, people portray their horses as almost human. The tensions between these two ways of talking about horses reflect contradictory ideas about control versus freedom in relating to horses, especially as related to emotions expressed by caregivers (owners) about their relationships with horses.

Waste generation nowadays is rising in the world and it seems hard to prevent it. Solid Waste Management (SWM) has been a major problem worldwide in most of the fast growing towns and cities among the developing countries all around the world. Food waste and green waste constitute high volumes of municipal solid waste (MSW). The application of compost in the agricultural sector can contribute to sustainable soil health and other co-benefits. The compost produced from biological waste does not contain any chemicals unfavorable to living soil. The objective of this research was to calculate the greenhouse gas emission from the compost processed from the food and green wastes generated on-campus in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as a pilot project. The result indicated that the composting process promotes the university as a green campus by converting organic wastes into valuable products such as organic fertilizer.

Since the last decade of the twentieth century, Ho Chi Minh City has become one of the Vietnamese lively dramatic literature and theater centers. During the past twenty years, together with dramatic theater, Ho Chi Minh City’s dramatic literature has built up a professional playwriter force, providing audiences plays which reflect the conflicts between human’s life in the time of Vietnam’s reformation and integration. Besides, these plays have contributed experiences in acquiring and applying the world modern playwriting techniques to suit Vietnamese’s drama reception habits. This paper generally provides content feature (focus on conflicts) and playwriting art feature (focus on plots, characteristics, dialogue language construction and the acquirement of new art techniques in Ho Chi Minh City’s contemporary literary scripts), contributing to the evaluation and summary of Ho Chi Minh City’s dramatic literature during the past.

The exponential growth in the world population has led to an ever-increasing demand for food supplies. This has led to the realization that conventional and traditional methods alone might not be able to keep up with this demand. Smart agriculture is being regarded as one of the few realistic ways that, together with the traditional methods, can be used to close the gap between the demand and supply. Smart agriculture integrates the use of different technologies to better monitor, operate, and analyze different activities involved in different phases of the agricultural life cycle. Smart agriculture happens to be one of the many disciplines where deep learning and computer vision are being realized to be of major impact. This chapter gives a detailed explanation of different deep learning methods and tries to provide a basic understanding as to how these techniques are impacting different applications in smart agriculture.

With one of the highest population densities in the world, Hong Kong suffers from a lack of public open space. Despite this situation, open spaces provided by government authorities or private developers often do not meet residents’ needs or include residents in the planning and design process. To explore one way that this issue is being addressed, this chapter describes an ongoing placemaking project within Hong Kong’s interstitial network of laneways (里) and alleys (巷). The key historical, sociocultural, and physical features, opportunities, and constraints of these in-between spaces are discussed. This is followed by an in-depth exploration of the case study Magic Lanes, a pilot project that aims to provide more inclusive public open spaces through placemaking and community co-creation.
