The article presents traces of the teachings of Benedict XVI on the ecumenical concern and a note on its renewal and advancement by Pope Francis in his programmatic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium. After reporting back to the ecumenical commitment of Vatican Council II, considered irreversible by John Paul II, and to observe certain difficulties, such as on the Declaration Dominus Iesus, it examines interviews, speeches and encyclicals of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, especially in relation with an affirmation of the Constitution Gaudium et Spes of Vatican II, about respect and love. In the end, it adds a brief but important annotation on the renewal and the advancement of Evangelii Gaudium by Pope Francis. Here is highlighted the teaching of respect and love as fundamental for ecumenism and inter-religious dialog and value: prayer and spirituality; the testimony of faith while preserving the harmony of diversity; generosity and reciprocity; dialog; the promotion of goodness and peace. Finally, openness, the Church ready to go out, to meet others, as is emphasized in Evangelii Gaudium.

Primate of Poland, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, in his teaching paid special attention to such notions as Church and Homeland. He focused on the value of the event, which was the Baptism of Poland in 966. Masovia was one of the stops on which the Nation’s faith was awakened, as well as the awareness of free and responsible man, creating history based on law and morality of the Decalogue. Primate was visiting Płock many times, during different occasions. He was preaching a word, which like the biblical grain was supposed to fall on the soil of human hearts and bring fruit. Historical and cultural role of Masovia, as a borough constituting an integral part of Polish state since its beginning and its contribution to culturalreligious development of Poland, was particularly emphasised during two Primate’s speeches: during millennial solemnities in 1966 and during the jubilee of a diocese in 1975. Primate Stefan Wyszyński, while talking about Masovia, emphasised its high position in building the State and the Church. Invoking figures, important for Masovia (bishops, priests, princes), he always pointed to the values, which they represented, and which were timeless. What Primate of Poland Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński said in Płock Masovia and about Masovia was fully reflected in the words of the Saint John Paul II uttered on 7 VI 1991 during his stay in Płock – “Płock has profoundly rooted in the history of Poland and the Church” – emphasising the role of this city, the capital of historical Masovia, in the millennial history of our Homeland.

The author deals with the reception of the moral teachings of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI by the Czech agnostic and atheist public. He puts this dialogue in the historical context of the Czech history of the 20th century and demonstrates its limits and possibilities. Although there is a common dialogue and interest space, currently, however, on the atheistic part of the public prevails a rather confrontational stance.

The subject of this article is the first pilgrimage by John Paul II to Poland in 1979. An analysis of his speeches delivered during this pilgrimage and the historical circumstances of the pilgrimage itself (the first pilgrimage by a Pope to Poland, a country with a socialist system at that time which promoted atheism; a visit by a Polish Pope to his home country shortly after his election to the Holy See; a visit to a Pope’s homeland other than Italy – a phenomenon unknown in the history of the papacy for the previous 455 years) allows us to capture its special character in the history of Poland and in the life of Karol Wojtyła / John Paul II. The Pope was faced with a difficult pastoral and diplomatic task, which was to fulfil his religious mission (strengthening the Christian faith in Poland and in other Slavic nations; showing the path of development for the Church in Poland; showing gratitude to the Polish Church for her heroic perseverance in the People’s Republic of Poland; emphasising the cultural role of Christianity in the world) and also to change the image of Poland in the world (while carefully avoiding any escalation of tensions between the Church and the state authorities and the influence of the USSR in Poland). This was accompanied – from a sociopsychological perspective – by his taking up the role of leader of the universal Church, a role which he had to learn, and, at the same time, maintaining the style of communication with his countrymen which he had developed earlier while a church dignitary in Poland.

Permanent Deaconship received without intention of future priesthood has been known since the beginning of the Church. Sixth century turned out to be a crucial moment in the history of Deaconship. That’s then when in the Western Church because of various reasons it started to loose its importance. Vaticanum II tried to change the way it was perceived. Together with promulgation of the norms contained in the Code of John Paul II part of the documents which had been promulgated earlier regulating this subject was canceled. After presenting most important documents issued by the Popes, Congregations and Conference of Polish Bishops together with explanations, the author focuses on the most important actions undertaken by Diocese Bishops from the moment permanent Deaconship was accepted in the Diocese till the moment the newly ordained deacon is send for the service.

During his pilgrimages to his homeland, John Paul II was teaching his countrymen about the problems specifi c to the Church in Poland, but also to the whole Church. One of these themes was the missions ad gentes. The Pope noticed and pointed out on the example of the history of his nation that missions built Polish statehood and shaped Polish culture. He called for this process to be recognized in the history of Europe as a whole and to recognize in evangelization the factor that builds and defi nes its true identity. He showed that missions help imbue human culture with a supernatural element. He recalled the truth about the missionary nature of the Church and the missionary vocation of all its members. Responsibility and cooperation in the missionary work was for John Paul II one of the forms of the “imagination of mercy.”  Appealing to his countrymen for missionary generosity and commitment, he also pointed to the fi gures who were involved in the animation of the missionary work in the Polish and universal Church. In his teaching in Poland, he recalled the missionary task of the Church community and of each and every faithful.

---------- Pope Francis has devoted particular attention to the ecological crisis since his election in 2013 until now. One of the first longer letters of Pope John Paul II was addressed to the Hungarian Episcopacy and the Hungarian Catholics. Besides the traditional Polish-Hungarian friendship, he highlighted the person of Saint Stephen and the role of Hungary in the history of the Christian religion. “  […] the Catholic Church, which had such a significant role in the history of Hungary, can still pervade the spiritual image of your country, and can make the lightness of Jesus Christ’s gospel, that gave light to the sons of the Hungarian people during so many centuries, shine for your sons and daughters.”- wrote in his letter.

The history of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) and the theological and archpastoral activities of Karol Wojtyla are inextricably linked, because it was with the participation in the Cathedral of the life of the bishop that a new stage began - he became one of the leaders of the movement for the renewal of the Catholic Church. In 1962-1963, Bishop Karol Wojtyla participated in the work of the 1 st and 2 nd sessions of the Second Vatican Council. It was at this time in Rome that he met with Cardinal Franz König, one of the most influential and intellectual figures in the church in Europe. This was the beginning of an extremely important shift in the career of Bishop C. Wojtyla1. In October 1962, he participates in the work of the first session of the Second Vatican Council as one of his youngest and most active members1 2. Next year, at the closing of the second session, he is appointed archbishop, Metropolitan Krakowski.

The significance of an archive ecclesiastical microfilm catalogue and of liturgy and library collections. Review of the publication Microfilm Catalogue in Possession of the Ecclesiastical Archives, Library and Museum Centre of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, compiled by Maria Dębowska, Publishing House of Instytut Teologiczny Księży Misjonarzy in Cracow, Cracow 2017, p. 677. Ever since 1960, the Ecclesiastical Archives, Library and Museum Centre of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin has been microfilming primarily ecclesiastical archive materials and partially also the historical collections of church libraries. The descriptions of the resulting microfilms were published over the years in the journal Archiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne. Subsequent groups of microfilms were assigned consecutive publication numbers and were referred to as microfilm catalogues. The current status of the work is presented in a printed catalogue by Maria Dębowska, PhD. The catalogue brings together descriptions of 5,593 microfilms. Created in the Ecclesiastical Archives, Library and Museum Centre, the microfilm collection is a unique resource for studies on the history of the Church in Poland.
