The high economic efficiency of sunflower growing contributed to a sharp increase in the sunflower planting acreage in Sumy region. The increase of cultivated areas under sunflower resulted in an oversaturation of crop rotations with this crop. The study of the phytosanitary status of sunflower crops was carried out in the basic farms of the phytosanitary security department of the Main Office of State Consumer Service (Derzhprodsluzhba) in Sumy region. The research methodology was commonly accepted. The main pests of sunflower crops were grey beet weevil (Tanymecus palliates Fabr.), larvae of common click beetle (Agriotes sputator L.), darkling beetle (Opatrum sabulosum L.), larvae of the western may beetle (Melolontha melolontha L.), leafcurl plum aphid (Brachycaudus helichrysi Kalt). The sunflower seedlings were damaged grey beet weevil, darkling beetle. The most widespread soil pests were the larvae of the western may beetle and larvae of common click beetle. Leafcurl plum aphid populated sunflower crops with 6‒8 pairs of true leaves. It continued to spread across the field during the inflorescence stage and the stage of initial blossom. The highest pest colonization was observed at the edge of the field in 2015, 2017 and accounted for 16 % of the plants. In the middle of the field, the aphid colonization was lower than at the edge. During the years of research, the economic threshold of sunflower pest harmfulness was exceeded only in some years. Sunflower damage by grey weevil beet, larvae of common click beetle, darkling beetle, larvae of the western may beetle was weak, and their number was insignificant. The increase of sunflower acreage did not lead to a significant growth of pest number, the exceeding of economic threshold of their harmfulness.

Abstract A survey for entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) of the Steienernematidae and Heterorhabditidae in soils of different crop types of agricultural lands (household plots, commercial fields) in the forest (Polissya) and forest-steppe (Lisostep) zones of Ukraine was carried out in spring, summer and autumn months from 2016 to 2018. In total, 205 soil samples and 92 live-traps were processed. In addition, 98 samples of soil-living larvae and adults of insect crop pests, including cockchafer beetles, click beetle larvae, darkling beetle larvae, caterpillars of the scoops were collected. It is shown that the EPNs distribution and frequency of occurrence depends on the natural geographical features (regional characteristics) and habitat types. EPNs were found in 46 (15.4 %) out 297 samples. The incidence (% of samples) of the entomopathogenic nematodes, and their diversity varied depending on the location-based sampling, the type of agrocenosis, and the predominant agricultural plant species or typical species-edificators. The proportion of entomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernema spp., Heterorhabditis spp.) recovery from regions of Lisostep zone was 16.9 %, and 13.6 % from regions of Polissya zone. The highest number among all positive samples was recorded from the apple trees, Malus domestica Borkh., 1803 (10 samples). The least number of positive samples (one sample) was obtained from sweet cherry trees, Prúnus cérasus L., 1753, junipers, Juniperus communis L., 1753, alfalfa, Medicago sativa L., 1753, common beans, Phaseolus vulgaris L., 1753, and common pumpkin, Cucurbita pepo L., 1753. The steinernematid nematodes were noticeably dominant over heterorhabditid nematodes: 60.8 % vs 39.2 % respectively. Steinernema spp. is widespread in different regions and plots, whereas Heterorhabditis spp. are common in fruit orchards and coniferous decorative perennial plantings.

In a long-term places, located on the experimental fields of Siberian Research Institute of Agriculture (Omsk), the schemes of field crop rotations were modernized by introducing oil crops (rapeseed, soybean) into rotation and replacing the repeated wheat crops with barley and oats. Accounting of grain crops productivity and accompanying observations were carried out in three field rotations of different lengths of rotation (four- and five-field) and on permanent sowing. The repetition of the experiments is fourfold. The system of agrotechnical measures recommended for the zone of the forest-steppe of Western Siberia was applied. The study of predecessors in the cultivation of crops for various purposes was carried out in field experiments using conventional methods. The humus content for rotation in the soil layer of 0-40 cm increased by 0.19% in the crop rotation “rapeseed - wheat spring wheat - barley - soybean - spring wheat”. The largest accumulation of humus (0.83%) was in the rotation “soybean - spring wheat - barley – oats”. During the years of research wheat productivity varied from 0.82 to 2.22 tons per hectare. Wheat was the first crop in all its predecessors to form grains, on average, by 0.3-0.5 tons per hectare, than the second crop. The yield of soybeans in the crop rotation was 1.23-1.78 tons per hectare. The productivity of rapeseed was low, its productivity over the years was 1.31 tons per hectare. Grain-fodder crops (barley, oats) averaged 0.4-0.6 tons per hectare, higher than the spring wheat productivity in the alternating rotation. The maximum yield of grain from a hectare of arable land was noted in the crop-steam rotation and amounted to 1.7 tons. An increase in the yield of feed-protein units was observed in crop rotations saturated with oil crops (rapeseed and soybean) and amounted to 3.4-4.0 tons per hectare. The economic calculation showed that the cultivation of field crops in the rotational crop rotation of “soybean - wheat - barley – oats” increased profitability by 44%, net income - by half, in comparison with the control variant. The obtained materials can be used to develop schemes of field crop rotations for the zone of the forest-steppe of Western Siberia.

At the present stage, the model of leaf plant development is increasingly considered as the main element of genotypes adaptation to specific cultivation conditions, geographical area, etc. Under these conditions, the potential of the hybrid, the range of its adaptation to environmental conditions is determined by the level of interaction between the development of the assimilation apparatus and the generative organs. An urgent task aimed at improving the productivity of sunflower crop due to the use of genotypes adapted to the conditions of the north-eastern Forest-Steppe and Polyssya of Ukraine is to identify typical schemes of interaction of photosynthetic potential and parameters of plant productivity and crop yields. The studies were conducted in accordance with the program for the development of a variety model for the conditions of the north-eastern Forest-Steppe and Polyssya of Ukraine. Field experiments were carried out in 2016‒2019 at the Sumy National Agrarian University and the Institute of the Agriculture of North East of Ukraine. In the studies, 28‒56 hybrids of different originators were tested annually. Sunflower was cultivated according to the technology recommended for the area, with pre-harvesting density of 60 thousand plants / ha. Harvesting was done manually, from two central rows of a 4-rows plot. The results were processed using the Statistics package. The data on yield indices and values of leaf area coefficient (LAC) of crop for groups of varieties separated by the duration of growing season were analyzed. It was found that the increasing of leaf area was accompanied by an increasing of yield in case of comparing groups with dates of technological maturation until 20 August, 1 September and 10 September. In all cases, the maximum value of the leaf area index ranged from 3.12‒3.52 m2/m2. These dynamics of indicators indicated to the regulatory nature of the values of leaf area coefficient (LAC) of modern sunflower crop and the absence of genotypes (or conditions) capable of maintaining these values at the level of more than 3.3‒3.5 m2/m2. According to the analysis of correlation pleiades, the presence of several levels was found and the relative independence of the relationships between the group of parameters, determining the morphological structure of plants and the vertical structure of crop and the group of parameters, characterizing the content of chlorophyll and its concentration per unit area of leaf surface. In practical terms, the results of the analysis indicated the potential informative nature of the complex use of parameters characterizing the morpho-structure of plants, primarily the index of leaf area and the index of chlorophyll concentration per unit area. In order to isolate the typical schemes characteristic of different levels of adaptation to the conditions of the zone, data on 29 sunflower hybrids distributed in the region were clustered. The results of the analysis allowed to distinguish three significantly different algorithms for the realization of the vegetative and generative potential of sunflower hybrids in the area of the north-eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. It has been established that one of the factors for successful realization of the generative potential of sunflower hybrids in the conditions of the zone is the ability to preserve and (in some cases) to improve the structure of relations between the dynamics and parameters of the plant leaf apparatus and the parameters of their generative development.
