The following report outlines the conjectural basis for an examination of the existing system of architectural production, and the imminent changes that are becoming more evident with the increasing saturation of digital technologies. Emergence and complexity theory have set the stage for a future of integrated system design. With many of our current modes of production already being heavily influenced by digital design and automated fabrication, the question for the building industry becomes not if, but how shall these systems be integrated in the production of architecture? Through the execution of an urban design project located at the Alexandra Park housing co-operative, this thesis establishes a commentary based in emergent theory that grounds the speculation of future possibilities in an historical understanding of current changes in contemporary architectural discourse. The exploration of difference as a generator of urban renewal is central to the proposals ability to induce positive change through dynamic emergent behavior.

Aiming at the existed deficiency of integrated application of digital technologies, the integration scheme of digital design/manufacturing/management in aeroplane process equipments is proposed. Its collective technologies and practical research items are analyzed, together with existed CAX systems and their data transfer relationship with MES/PDM. The united information model and knowledge reuse technologies are studied to ensure the successful product development. Based on the above researches, an integrated application system is set up, which is composed of seven sub-systems, like management of process equipments orders etc. Therefore, “paperless” manufacturing in the Hafei Aviation Company has finally come true.

Several long-distance, high-volume coal slurry transportation systems are planned or proposed for the United States. These new systems offer a method of transport that is both economical and environmentally attractive. The design of these systems will be a challenge to the pipeline engineer since an integrated, system design of several components is necessary to achieve an optimum overall effect. The pipeline, pump stations, instrumentation and controls, slurry preparation, and utilization facilities must all be considered in the design. The purpose of this paper is to describe the system components of a large coal slurry transportation system in detail and to show the special design considerations required for the overall system design considering the interrelationships of the various components.

This study examines the system integration of a game engine with robotics middleware to drive an 8 degree offreedom (DoF) robotic upper limb to generate human-like motion for telerobotic applications. The developed architectureencompasses a pipeline execution design using Blender Game Engine (BGE) including the acquisition of real humanmovements via the Microsoft Kinect V2, interfaced with a modeled virtual arm, and replication of similar arm movements on the physical robotic arm. In particular, this study emphasizes the integration of a human “pilot” with ways to drive such a robotic arm through simulation and later, into a finished system. Additionally, using motion capture technology, a human upper limb action was recorded and applied onto the robot arm using the proposed architecture flow. Also, we showcase the robotic arm’s actions which include reaching, picking, holding, and dropping an object. This paper presentsa simple and intuitive kinematic modeling and 3D simulation process, which is validated using 8-DoF articulated robot to demonstrate methods for animation, and simulation using the designed interface.

The paper states the relationships between the instrumentality of building systems, the aesthetics and politics of software and the digital technologies impact on the built environment. It explores the space between the architect’s intentionality and the changing modes in architectural production. The text proposes a critical awareness of the epistemological and technical dimension of the digital instruments as a way for architects to better appropriate the expanding array of digital tools in an ever-increasing urban complexity.

ENGLISHThe article presents and discusses an experience in Brazil on an architectural design method of teaching created by the School of Architecture and Urban Design of the University of Sao Paulo (FAU USP). We refer to a Pedagogical Reform proposed in 1962 and its consequences on the formation of Brazilian architects. Known as the 1962 Reform and having as its leader, in association with other professors, architect and professor João Batista Vilanova Artigas (1913-1985), the proposed new model for a method of project education ended up by being adopted, in some aspects, but not all, by the majority of Brazilian schools of architecture and urban design. The reform led by Vilanova Artigas proposed an overcoming of project teaching methods based either on the traditional model of architectural composition, by way of the School of Fine Arts, or on those for the formation of architect-engineers, by way of the Polytechnics. This new teaching method would be based on parameters for the comprehension of architectural practice, pointing to a generalist formation of the architect, thus instrumentalizing him to act within the various scales of architectural production: objects, buildings, cities and visual communication. In this context is manifested the intention for the creation of a University of Design, founded on the practice of investigation and studio research, thus overcoming the boundaries of a project scale in a school of architecture, limited between the realization of a building scale and, at most, of a city. To understand this generalist and plural outlook becomes a contribution to the discussion on the formation of contemporary architects and their awareness and instrumentalization for action before the complex professional demands of present day societies.
