Development of an integrated nutrient management strategy is needed to enhance soil quality and increase crop yields in the marginal uplands of Eastern Visayas. Due to very poor soil condition, a field fertilizer experiment using the combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers was conducted in Inopacan, Leyte, to assess the growth performance of corn plants. The six treatment combinations used in this study were the following: T1(no fertilizer added); T2(National recommendation for corn at 90-60-60 kg N, P2O, K5O ha-1); T3(chicken dung at 15 tons ha-1); T4(vermicast at 15 tons ha-1); T5(1/2 of inorganic + chicken dung at 7.5 tons ha-1) and T6(1/2 of inorganic + vermicast at 7.5 tons ha-1). Generally, application of organic fertilizer significantly increased soil pH, organic matter and total nitrogen. In addition, the treatments significantly increased, plant height, ear length, number of grains per ear, weight of 1,000 seeds, fresh stover yield, and grain yield of corn Corn plants in plots applied with fertilizer following T2 (National Recommendation for corn at 90-60-60 kg N, P2O, K5O ha-1) and T5(1/2 of inorganic + chicken dung at 7.5 tons ha-1) grew taller and developed larger ears with more kernels per ear and heavier 1,000 seeds which resulted to higher grain yield. However, using inorganic fertilizer alone had the same effect on ear length, number of kernels per ear of those corn plants applied with combination of either chicken dung or vermicast and one-half of inorganic fertilizers. Plants in control plots and those amended with vermicast alone showed the least growth responses.

The study evaluated the effects of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of two lowland rice varieties; determined the proper fertilizer combination; and evaluated the profitability of rice production as influenced by the combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers. This was laid out in split plot arranged in a RCBD design with variety and fertilizer treatments as the main plot and subplot, respectively. Results revealed that the period from sowing to heading, shoot dry weight, number of filled grains per panicle and weight of 1,000 grains were significantly influenced by the variety. The yield, yield components and harvest index (HI) were significantly influenced by fertilizer application. A significant interaction effect was noted on the period from sowing to heading as observed that inbred rice (NSIC Rc212) headed late than hybrid (TH82). Plants applied with 120-60-60 kg ha-1 N, P2O5 and K2O produced taller height, larger LAI, longer panicles, more productive tillers and filled grains, and consequently highest grain yield and HI. These plants also produced the heaviest root and shoot dry weights resulting to higher root shoot ratio compared to unfertilized plants. Highest net income was obtained in plants applied with inorganic fertilizer at the rate of 120-60-60 kg ha-1 N, P2O5 K2O due to high grain yield. Irrespective of fertilizer treatments, inbred rice was more profitable than hybrid. Highest production cost was incurred in plants applied with pure organic fertilizer due to the high cost of the material.

The objectives of this research were to determine the effect of natural materials added to the rice straw fermentation process; and to find the best formula for organic fertilizers to increase nutrient uptake, growth, and rice grain yield in newly opened and intensive lowland. The research was conducted at West Sumatra AIAT’s laboratory and lowlands at Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia from July to December 2017. The first research included three formulas of organic fertilizers and the second included six treatments produced from the first research. The results showed that increasing amount of titonia from 200 kg to 400 kg and rock phosphate from 5 kg to 20 kg per ton of rice straw increased compost’s nitrogen and phosphorus content of the compost from 1.22% to 1.36%, and from 0.75% to 1.68% respectively. Application of compost without inorganic fertilizers in newly opened lowland decreased 23% of yield and increased 4.7% yield when combined with inorganic fertilizers. The combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers increased 10-12% yield and decreased 10% of yield without inorganic fertilizers in intensive lowland. Application of organic fertilizer without inorganic fertilizers not significantly influenced the growth. Combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers is the best way to increase lowland rice yield.

Rice is the most important staple cereals in human nutrition and consumed by 75% of the global population. Rice plant needs supply of essential nutrients for its optimal growth. Rice production has been increased tremendously in India after green revolution combined with insensitive irrigation and use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. However, the effect of using inorganic fertilizers has resulted in contamination of ground water and decreased the productivity of soil, which in turn affects the rice production in long term. Use of organic manure may help to regain the soil health but they are insufficient to provide the essential nutrients to achieve optimal growth. So, use of organic manures combine with inorganic fertilizers are followed to obtain optimum yields. This study aimed to test the effect of the different organic fertilizer and combinations of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the qualitative and quantitative parameters of two cultivars of rice as DRR Dhan 39 and RP.BIO.226. The experiment was conducted on the farm located at Fasalwadi village, Sangareddy district, Telangana during kharif season in randomized complete block design with three replications. The treatment included two controls and 10 combinations of four organic fertilizers as farmyard manure, vermicompost, Panchagavya, Jeevamrutha and inorganic fertilizers as combination of 60:75:75 levels of N, P and K. Grain and straw samples were collected and physical parameters were measured at harvest stage. The results indicated that the variety DRR Dhan 39 gave the statistically significant (P<0.0001) higher grain yield of 8713 kg/ha and straw yield of 9483kg/ha with 50% organic fertilizers of Vermicompost, Jeevamrutha 5% and Panchagavya 3% and 50% inorganic fertilizer of NPK. On the other hand, the variety of RP.BIO.226 gave the highest grain yield of 6390 kg/ha with Vermicompost, Jeevamrutha 5% and Panchagvya 3% (8 t/ha, foliar spray and 500 litres/ha) and highest straw yield of 7430 kg/ha with T10 treatment (50% organic fertilizers of Vermicompost, Jeevamrutha 5% and Panchagavya 3% and 50% inorganic fertilizer of NPK). Both varieties of rice poorly responded to inorganic fertilizers with lower grain and straw yield. Statistically significant differences were observed in both varieties of grain crude protein (CP%), straw acid detergent fiber (ADF%), crude fiber (CF%) and acid detergent lignin (ADL%) with different fertilizers

An experiment was conducted at the Soil Science Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during winter (Rabi) season of 2013-14 to evaluate the effect of integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth, yield and nitrogen (N) uptake of wheat. There were six treatments such as T0 (control), T1 [STB-CF (HYG)], T2 [STB-CF (HYG) + CD (5 t/ha)], T3 [STB-CF (HYG) +PM (3 t/ha)], T4 [STB-CF (HYG) COM (5 t/ha)] and T5 [FP (Farmers’ practice)]. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications. Soil test based nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, zinc and boron were used @ 100, 20, 60, 10, 3 and 2 kg ha-1, respectively. The integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizers significantly increased the yield attributes as well as grain and straw yields of wheat. The treatment T3 [STB-CF (HYG) + PM (3 tha-1)] produced the highest grain yield of 3554 kg ha-1 (69.67% increase over control) and straw yield of 3635 kg ha-1 (62.83% increase over control). The lowest grain yield (2094 kg ha-1) and straw yield (2232 kg ha-1) were found in control treatment. The N content and uptake by wheat were also markedly influenced by combined use of organic and inorganic fertilizers and the treatment T3 demonstrated superior performance to other treatments. So, the applications of fertilizers in combination with poultry manure @ 3 t ha-1 can be used for the successful cultivation of wheat in Old Brahmaputra Floodplain soil. Progressive Agriculture 27 (2): 149-153, 2016

The Effect of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers on The Growth and Results of Green Mustard (Brassica rapa L.). Green mustard (Brassica rapa L.) is a vegetable that preferred by many consumers, this causes many farmers cultivate this vegetables. One of the important factor in the cultivation of green mustard is fertilizer type. Alternative to improve soil quality and fertility is by providing organic matter. A field research was conducted to evaluate the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of green mustard, in Banjar Taman Tande, Baturiti Village, Bedugul from April to June 2018. This study was designed with a Randomized Block Design with nested patterns consisting of two factors. The first factor was the type of fertilizer, which was consisted of four types of organic fertilizer, namely: vermicompost, cow manure, chicken manure, goat manure and inorganic fertilizers (NPK Mutiara). The second factor was fertilizer dosage, which was consisted of three levels, namely: 0 tons/ha, 15 tons/ha, and 30 tons/ha, while for NPK Mutiara fertilizer dosages, namely: 0 kg/ha, 150 kg/ha, and 300 kg/ha.The results showed that the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers were not significantly different on the growth and yield of green mustard plants and RAE values. The total N content of soil on vermicompost treatment was 0.23% equal to NPK Mutiara. The total population of soil microbes on vermicompost treatment under dosage of 15 tons/ha and 30 tons/ha were 1.4 x 106 cfu/g that was much higher compared to NPK Mutiara 150 kg/ha fertilizer (0.3 x 106 cfu/g).

Tuberose (Polyanthes tuberosa L.) is a potential flowering plant that will be developed in Jatinangor, West Java, Indonesia. However, the characteristics of Typic Hapludult soil in Jatinangor , i.e. clay texture, acidic pH, and high amount of total-P but low in available-P cause the tuberose difficult to grow optimally. The aim of this study was to obtain the potential ratio of organic and inorganic fertilizer dosages for tuberose grown on Typic Hapludult. The combinations of organic and inorganic fertilizers with different ratios (0/0; 0/1; 1/0; 0.5/0.5; 0.5/1; 1/0.5; 1/1.5; 1.5/0; 1.5/0.5, and 1.5/) were applied. The application of the combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers showed positive effects on soil pH, available-P, total-P, and fresh weight of tuberose grown on Typic Hapludult. The application of 50% organic fertilizer + 50% inorganic fertilizer was an effective combination that was able to increase the fresh weight of tuberose up to 9240 g plant-1 or increasing the fresh weight by 39% in comparison to that in the control treatment (without fertilizer application).

The study investigated the effects of animal manures (cow manure, CoM; chicken droppings, CkD; and pig manure, PiM) applied at 15 t ha-1 equivalent rate on the soil and growth performance of okra grown in a degraded ultisol. The treatments (CoM; CoM; PiM and Control unamended) were laid out in a completely randomized design and replicated three times. Animal manure application had significant effects on soil properties. Soilorganic matter increased by over 9% in the amended treatment relative to the control treatment. Except for N, increases in P (circa 14-70%)and K (circa 15-46%) nutrients were higher for CkD treatment than in other  treatments. Generally, the amended treatments maintained a significantly higher (p ≤0.05) plant leave number, stem girth, plant height, okra pod length and yields when compared with the Control treatment. The results indicated that application of animal manure enhanced okra growth performance. The findings suggest that animal manure application can potentially increase okra yield when grown in a degraded soil. It is recommended that farmers use ample (15 t ha-1) ) quantity of animal manures to increase their crop yields, which invariably will enhance their income. This study aimed to determine the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the cultivation of tropical weed Synedrella nodiflora as forage. The study was conducted from May to July 2018. The treatments of the research were control (C), organic fertilizer (D) and organic fertilizer + urea (DU), with 3 replications that were arranged on experimental design with a completely randomized design, in a unidirectional pattern and continued with least significant different (LSD). Organic fertilizer dosage in this study was 5 tons/ha, while urea fertilizer was 350 kg/ha, with plant spacing was 45x60 cm. The observed parameters were plant height, forage production and chemical composition (5 weeks after planting). Plant height of C, D and DU were 41.59, 47,42, and 50.59 cm respectively. Forage production of dry matter after 5 weeks planting at C, D and DU were 1.69, 1.70 and 2.91ton/ha, with in vitro digestibility values ranging from 51.68 to 57.70% (IVDMD) and 51.71 to 61.98% (OMD) respectively. The chemical composition of native S. Nodiflora were 12.32% of dry matter (DM), 62.45% TDN count for cattle and 67.42% TDN count for sheep. Based on DM, The organic matter was 84.46%, crude protein 20,11%, crude fiber 13.26%, extract ether 7.77%, and nitrogen free extract 37.08%. The combination of organic fertilizer and urea increased the height and fresh and dry matter production S. nodiflora.
