scholarly journals Waste Recycling as a Key to Conservation of Natural Resources in Nigeria: An Overview

Waste generation in Nigeria is associated with increase in population resulting from economic development in cities, and this depends on high consumption of raw materials, which is gradually leading to the depletion of natural resources. The management of these wastes and there adverse impacts on the environment was observed to be one of the major challenges being tackled by state and local government environmental protection agencies. This paper focuses on recycling practices in Nigeria, which involves the collection and processing of materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash, and how these waste materials can be turned into new products, as a fundamental technique in the recovery of natural resources after use. It also reviews the role of waste recycling and its impact on the sustainability of these endangered raw materials.Thus, recycling accomplishes the dual function of the waste utilization and environmental safety, which is a key tonatural resource conservation.

In the contemporary economy the more and more greater role is played by state and local government institutions. Offices of public administration not only create law, but more and more often become initiators of the different type of investments undertaken on the ground of their jurisdiction. Often neighbouring administrative units begin to compete between themselves in gaining of investments and resources for the purpose of its own development. In the functionality of mentioned offices the greater role is performed by IT systems building the architecture of a given unit, clearly expressed among other things in the idea of intelligent city. Applied by offices of public administration IT systems are more often opened for suppliants creating e-government tools [1]. In this paper was presented the role of e-government tools in the business activation of the region on the basis of IT systems made available by Czestochowa Municipal Office. The review of potential directions of the e-government tools usage in different areas of social-economic life of the city will be presented

Nowadays it is important to limit the use and combustion of fossil fuels such as oil and coal. There is a need to create environmentally acceptable projects that can reduce or even stop greenhouse gas emissions. In this article, we dealt with the objectives of energy policy with regard to environmental protection, waste utilization, and conservation of natural resources. The main objective of the research was to assess the possibility of the use of spent coffee grounds (SCG) as fuel. As a part of the solution, the processing of coffee waste in the form of pellets, analysis of calorific value and combustion in the boiler were proposed. The experiments were done with four samples of pellets. These samples were made from a mixture of wood sawdust and spent coffee grounds with ratio 30:70 (wood sawdust: spent coffee grounds), 40:60, 50:50 and 100% of spent coffee grounds. The calorific values were compared with wood sawdust pellets (17.15 MJ.kg−1) and the best lower calorific value of 21.08 MJ.kg−1 was measured for 100% of spent coffee grounds. This sample did not achieve the desired performance during the combustion in the boiler due to the low strength of the sample.

Now that conservation models which segregate nature from people (or nature from culture) are no longer seen as viable, we are witnessing the emergence of new approaches that acknowledge the crucial role culture plays in conservation efforts. We now know that environmental conservation is, in many cases, not only contingent on the conservation of natural resources, but also the conservation of cultural resources. Respectively, conservation strategies are increasingly being linked to issues of cultural preservation and survival. This latter goal, however, requires a broader view of the role of culture than is often taken in conservation efforts as well as the kinds of resources that can be used for these purposes. When cultural variables are taken into consideration they are often reduced to a discreet set of resources, such as indigenous knowledge and local systems of ecological protection that can be integrated into projects. But culture needs to be seen as foundational to conservation rather than just an added dimension or resource. Since culture, in all its varied forms, contributes to the construction of what people value and take concern in, it also determines, to a certain degree, how and where people will direct their energy. Therefore, we need to develop approaches that acknowledge and build on the dynamics of culture, and activities that can serve as a motivating and sustaining force in a community.

Food is a reflection of natural resources, social, economic and cultural development, which is why specific features develop in cuisine, nutrition and technology. Dishes become typically territorial because of the terroir that shapes the characteristics of the local dishes and ingredients. When planning a proper gastronomic tourism offer for the requirements of the modern tourist, it is essential to base the gastronomy on everything that is given to us by both modern cultural influences and those from the past. The research focuses on gastronomy and cuisine as interpretive tools for learning about the cultural heritage of the Vipava Valley. Based on existing theoretical findings, we examined the potential of gastronomic tourism and the role of heritage in it through semi-structured interviews with experts from various fields related to Vipava gastronomy or material and non-material cultural heritage. The findings of the interviews were confirmed by analyzing three cases from the local environment. Consolidation and upgrading of gastronomy tourism of the Vipava Valley primarily depends on the stimulating economic environment, respect for the heritage itself and individual innovations. Sustainable development of the destination is based on a strong identity of the local people and is connected with rich natural resources and the heritage of producing and processing of safe, seasonal and high-quality raw materials. The research has confirmed the great role of nature in shaping the cultural heritage in the rural areas.
