scholarly journals Detection of OSA in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective: Detection of OSA by results of the Stop-bang questionnaire in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Material and Methods: Total of 300 patients was examined (mean age was 59.4 ± 6.66 years). All examined were divided to male and female. 150 female patients mean age 57.4 ± 7.6 years, mean body mass index (BMI) 31.2 ± 5.0 kg / mІ, neck circumference, (mean 38.04 ± 2 cm). 150 male patients, men with type 2 diabetes (mean age 54 ± 8.3 years), mean BMI - 28.9 ± 7.2 kg / mІ, neck circumference 41.8 cm ± 3 cm. Results: According to the results of the questionnaire, it was noted that 45.4% of men had a snore in a dream, 75.7% had a female among those suffering from T2DM. In each group, 87% of the patients complained of weakness during the day. In 25.7% of women and 10.6% of men, periodic respiratory arrest in a dream was detected. A direct correlation between T2DM, BMI and sleep apnea (p <0.01). Conclusions: According to the Stop-bang questionnaire, the high risk of developing OSA among men and women in the Uzbek nationality. 37.5% of men with T2DM and 40.9% of women with T2D who had a high risk of developing sleep apnea. Given that the quality of life indicator is an indicator of the state of health, any violation of them dictates the need for timely detection and correction of OSA. The results obtained make it possible to recommend further investigation of patients with a polysomnography to determine the diagnosis of OSA and treatment.

Objectives. We determined the prevalence of patients at risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at the out-patient department (OPD) of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) from December 1, 2018 - February 28, 2019. We described the demographic characteristics of patients with uncontrolled T2DM and compared them with high and low OSA risk, its association, and correlation with the quality of sleep. Methods. This is a prospective cross-sectional study among uncontrolled T2DM. The questionnaires were Berlin Questionnaire (screen OSA-HR) and Epworth Sleepiness Score (level of sleepiness). Clinicodemographic profile and significant laboratory data were obtained. Descriptive statistics utilized. Chi-square test was used to compare categorical variables between patients with high vs low OSA risk and to determine if an association exists between OSA-HR and sleep quality. Results. A total of 240 participants, 88 males and 151 females, were included in the study. The overall prevalence of OSA-HR among patients with uncontrolled type 2DM is 58.33%. The majority of the OSA–HR patients (105/140) was 46 years old and above. There is a significant association of tonsillar grade, Mallampati score, BMI, HbA1c, hypercholesterolonemia, and Epworth sleepiness on OSA High risk. There is also a substantial association with age, BMI, Mallampati score, tonsillar grade, hypertension, asthma, HbA1c, and hypercholesterelonemia on the level of sleepiness of OSA-HR. Conclusion. There is a high prevalence of high OSA-risk among patients with uncontrolled DM. Factors associated with high OSA-risk among uncontrolled diabetes mellitus include HbA1c, dyslipidemia, BMI, Mallampati score, tonsillar grade, and Epworth score.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by relative or absolute deficiency of insulin, resulting in glucose intolerance. Objectives: The present study was planned to see the associations of serum uric acid with positive Rheumatoid factor in type 2 male diabetes mellitus patients. Methodology: This case control study was carried out at the department of Biochemistry at Ibrahim Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The duration of the study was from June 2015 to June 2016 for a period of one year. In this present study, male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were taken as case group and age and sex matched healthy male were taken as control group. Rheumatoid factor was measured from the blood of all case and control group respondents. Others blood para meters were also measured for the correlation with the diabetes mellitus patients. Results: In this present study, 110 male patients presented with type 2 diabetes mellitus were recruited as case and age and sex matched healthy male were recruited as control. More rheumatoid factor positive in type 2 DM male patients with the uric acid range between 6.5 to 9.5 mg/dL. The number of patients was 5 out of total 9 rheumatoid factor positive cases. In this study serum uric acid was significantly correlated with rheumatoid factor in type 2 male diabetic patients. Rheumatoid factor positive cases were taking insulin among 9 and it was statistically significantly associated (p<0.001). Conclusion: In this study serum uric acid is significantly associated with positive rheumatoid factor in type 2 male diabetic patients.Journal of Current and Advance Medical Research 2017;4(2):58-62

ABSTRACT The AIM of the present study was to find and compare the correlations between somatotype and some anthropological parameters in Bulgarian male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Anthropometric measurements were taken from 165 male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. All patients were ethnic Bulgarians. They were divided into two age groups: a 40-60-year group (58 patients, mean age 52.05 ± 0.73 yrs), and a 61-80-year group (111 patients, mean age 68.02 ± 0.53 yrs). The controls were allocated into similar agematched groups. Direct anthropometric measurements were body height and weight, biepicondylar breadth of the humerus and biepicondylar breadth of the femur. Circumferential measurements were taken from the relaxed and contracted upper arm, the forearm, the waist, the hip, the thigh and the medial calf. Skin folds were measured below the inferior angle of the scapula, above the X rib, above the crista iliaca, at the abdomen, triceps brachii, forearm, thigh and the medial calf. The components of human somatotype according to the criteria of Heath-Carter, body mass index (ВМІ) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) were calculated. RESULTS: We found very strong positive correlations (РС > 0.70) between ВМI and the endomorphic and mesomorphic components of somatotype in 40-60-year-old male diabetic patients. The correlation between the endomorphic and mesomorphic components of somatotype and the anthropometric measurements characterizing the central accumulation of adipose tissue (waist circumference, hip circumference, WHR) was very strong positive (РС = 0.5-0.7). Male diabetic patients aged 61-80 years: we found a very strong positive correlation between endomorphic and mesomorphic components and ВМІ, a strong correlation between these components and the waist circumference, and a good correlation between the components and the circumferences of the waist and hip and WHR. CONCLUSIONS: In male patients with type 2 diabetes aged 40-60 years, the endomorphic and mesomorphic components of somatotype are strongly positively correlated with the parameters which characterize the total adipose tissue accumulation in the human body (ВМІ). There is a good positive correlation between the two components of somatotype and the parameters showing visceral adipose tissue accumulation (circumferences of waist, hip, thigh and WHR). In male patients with type 2 diabetes aged 61-80 years we found a strong positive correlation of the endomorphic and mesomorphic components of somatotype with BMI and a good positive correlation with the circumferences of the waist, hip, thigh and WHR.

77 male patients (mean age 47?7.4 years) without ischaemic heart disease were tested for metabolic syndrome factors, risk for developmentof type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) according to FINDRISK questionnaire, following with assessment of intracellularmetabolism parameters of neutrophils. Increased risk for T2DM positively correlated in these patients with myeloperoxidase activity, level of hydrogen peroxide within neutrophils and BMI. We observed elevation of oxygen-dependent metabolism in neutrophils formpatients with morbid obesity, accompanied with decrease in antioxidant factors, which is suggestive of oxidative stress.
