The complex nature of the professional activities of helicopter pilots actualizes a systematic approach to determining their readiness to perform their duties when flying in international airspace. At the same time, participation in peacekeeping operations, rescue expeditions, evacuation of the population makes increased demands on the level of their foreign language training in the higher military educational institution of aviation profile. Aviation English training is specific in terms of purpose, content, proficiency criteria and relevant professional and personal indicators and conditions of use. Given the importance of radio exchange in ensuring trouble-free flight activities, the article analyses the process of English-language preparation of future helicopter pilots for radio exchange at the main stages of the training flight. This training should take place with a gradual increase in the complexity of tasks, the advancement of cadets from learning and reproduction of language structures to independent modelling of professional communication situations. It involves the involvement of such resources of the information and educational environment of higher education institutions as regular classrooms with classrooms and / or interactive whiteboards, language classrooms, training cabins of Mi-2, Mi-8, Mi-24 helicopters, located in specialized classrooms. The most successful place to practice radio communication skills is an aviation simulator, which allows you to practice not only the speech response, but also the motor response to control the helicopter. Intelligence computer simulations of helicopter motion are promising, which creates unique opportunities for creating radio exchange learning situations. At the same time, the study of this issue allowed us to conclude that it is inexpedient in teaching cadets to focus only on standard phraseology of radio exchange, as the latter, although it helps to avoid misunderstandings, is not able to describe all possible circumstances and reactions. Therefore, in cases where the standard phraseology does not "offer any typical forms of verbal communication, pilots and air traffic controllers switch to ordinary English", which raises the issue of enriching the English-speaking arsenal of aviation professionals. Key words: aviation English, helicopter pilot, language tasks, flight situation, professional readiness, radio exchange, phraseology.

The study which took place at a Malaysian pre-tertiary educational institution aimed at investigating the implementation of language learning strategies (LLS) of its two major stakeholders, namely the students and the teachers. As the study employed mixed-method design, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected as to report the findings. The Strategy Inventory for Language Learning Strategies (SILL) and classroom observation protocol were the two important instruments for this study. A total of 300 students were involved in the study in which the number was determined using Krejcie and Morgan table. The students were divided into two groups consisting of 150 students who passed the institution’s English Proficiency Test, being referred to as ‘EPT-pass’ and 150 students who failed the test, hence known as ‘EPT-fail’ in the study. Four teachers voluntarily involved in the study after invitation to be part of the study was extended to all teachers at the educational institution. Analysis of data was done using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation scores) and thematic analysis. The findings showed that students employed indirect language learning strategies more than direct strategies with EPT-pass group recording (M=4.084, SD=0.625) and EPT-fail group with (M=2.722, SD=0.466). It was apparent that metacognitive strategies (M=4.361, SD=0.954) were EPT-pass group’s most employed strategies while EPT-fail students implemented affective strategies (M=3.077, SD=0.399) the most. Additionally, LLS were undoubtedly embedded into the lesson implementations of the four teachers whose lesson implementations were observed. The study implies that LLS play fundamental part in the teaching and learning of English and should be directly nurtured and embedded into English language classrooms to ensure more effective implementations.

Educational technology plays an increasingly important role in the teaching and learning process. Successful integration is the goal of any new educational technology. The interactive whiteboard (IWB) can be effectively used by teachers to enhance the effectiveness of their lessons. This study explored the attitudes and insights of Saudi female teachers regarding the use of IWBs when teaching English as a foreign language (EFL). It also investigated possible obstacles they may face during their use of this novel technology.

Data was collected by distributing questionnaires to forty three teachers at different girls’ schools in Riyadh. The results indicated that participants in this study demonstrated positive attitudes toward using the IWB in the EFL classrooms. The results also showed that teachers consider IWBs to be useful devices for enhancing the teaching and learning process and for designing new instructional situations. IWB-based lessons were perceived to be more comfortable for teachers in teaching English. However, teachers stated that they faced some technical obstacles in their use of IWBs.

The current study recommended that EFL classes should be equipped with all supplicants of the IWBs. It also suggested that training is important for teachers to deal with the technological devices. EFL teachers need more training to learn how to resolve technical and system problems; they also need to understand how to use all the options offered by the IWBs.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the amount and type of teacher-talk, frequently asked questions and feedback provided by the teacher on learners’ performance in a language classroom. For this purpose, a lecture was recorded from a secondary level English language classroom of a public sector school and interpreted in the light of teacher-student interaction and classroom management model by David Nunan. Results revealed that the maximum amount of time (i.e. 80.1%) was consumed by the teacher which was appropriate. However, certain deviations from classroom management principles were also observed regarding frequently asked questions (i.e. 50% of the total questions were elicitation questions) and the feedback (it was ‘romantic’ in nature). Moreover, wait-time was sufficient but it was of no use to the learners. The study concluded that classroom practices did not conform to the principles therefore, it proposed to ask questions and provide feedback appropriately.

Aim. The purpose of the study is to establish theoretical prerequisites, identify, describe and interpret the basic psychological patterns of the dynamics of figurative creativity of future teachers of the humanities both during his/ her training in the educational environment of modern pedagogical universities and at certain stages of the didactic process. Material and methods. As the methods and tools of empirical research, the author uses the procedure of analysis of the degree of statistical validity of the differences of average values of the selected empirical indicators (t-Student's criterion), the test of figurative creativity by E.P. Torrens (modified by O.E.Tunik), a survey method, an interview method, and an expert evaluation method. The respondents were first, third, and fifth-year students specialized in «Ukrainian language and literature», «English (German) language and literature», «Ukrainian country studying» with a total of 156 people aged 18 to 30 years. The empirical basis of the study was the Faculty of Philology of the State Higher Educational Institution «Donbas State Pedagogical University». Results. It is obvious that throughout the process of growing up and gaining experience in educational and professional activities, the main specific characteristics of the creative figurative act for the representatives of the natural profile of professional training are the speed of emergence and development of creative ideas, the degree of deviation from existing prototypes, the desire to avoid a possible return to them or their modification and efforts to complete and properly design their creative product. At the same time, at the background of the previously mentioned characteristics, the dynamics of the indicator of the abstractness of the name of figurative creativity gradually recedes into the background. It means that in the process of micro-age formation of figurative creativity of the humanitarian profile subject of educational and professional activity the subject’s deep essence, not its nominal side, the outer cover, which consists in the peculiarities of verbalization of this creative process, the peculiarities of self-presentation and the presentation of the final creative product are formed. Conclusions. If we summarize the dynamics of figurative creativity of a humanitarian profile student in general, then we can depict: 1) impressive are the positive changes in this area at the end of the study, on the verge of study and professional activity, which in fact can cause such a rapid and bright dynamics; 2) particular interest is in the dynamics of creativity of humanitarian profile students at the level of such nuclear characteristics of figurative creativity as the dynamics of the creative idea, the degree of its difference from stereotypes and resistance to their emergence and motivated ability to finalize the creative product. In the future, we see promising research on the dynamics of figurative creativity of students of natural, cultural, and artistic profile and a comparative study of the dynamics of figurative creativity on the indicator of the profile of professional training in higher pedagogical education.

The main problems of modern education cannot be solved without its development. Scientists and practitioners pay attention to outdated forms and technologies of managing work with students. In modern conditions, it is becoming increasingly difficult to solve the problems of education with traditional management systems and methods, therefore, there is a need for an adequate construction of methodological equipment of the educational process in an educational institution, which actualizes the need to provide the education system with methodological developments, didactic materials that meet modern requirements of pedagogical practice. Organizational forms of methodological work of the university are: scientific and methodological and pedagogical council; certification of teachers; subject departments, creative laboratories of teachers; school of a young teacher; psychological, pedagogical and methodological seminars; methodological schools of innovative teachers; preparation of methodological manuals, publications in periodicals and professional publications. Most of the above-mentioned types of methodological support are traditional, but all of them make it possible to introduce innovations. However, attention is drawn only to the forms and methods of organizing the educational process, and not to the psychological and pedagogical support of the cognitive activity of teachers and methodological support of managerial activities as a source of quality and effectiveness of their professional activities. The realities put forward new requirements for the methodological support of the educational process at the university, requiring changing the goals, functions and content, turning its quality level into a scientific and methodological one. The essence and purpose of scientific and methodological support is to create conditions for the formation and personal and professional development of teachers, the development of their pedagogical abilities, creative potential.

Due to its free-adjoining nature, the category of adjuncts is generally viewed as somewhat peripheral to the forefront of grammatical relations. Meanwhile, given the significance of the media in the present world and the ever-growing prevalence of the notion of news values, outlining the criteria conducive to a message becoming news and including values such as negativity, superlativeness, prominence, timeliness, proximity, etc. (Bednarek, Caple 2014), the broad range of linguistic means encoding intensification, thereby foregrounding a given phenomenon, presents a considerable interest. In this corpus study, we focus on three adjectival emphasisers, flagrant, blatant, and sheer, and examine their use in adjective + noun collocations across a variety of English corpora on the Sketch Engine tool (Kilgarriff et al. 2014) in the academic and the news registers: the “British Academic Written English Corpus”, the “Cambridge Academic English Corpus”, the “English Language Newspapers Corpus”, the “Brexit WR Corpus”, and the “English Timestamped JSI Corpus 2020–10”. We also consider the nominal element the adjectives in question collocate with, seeking to provide an account as to their differences in English. The findings of the study may have implications both for language classrooms and for more specialized fields, such as media studies.
