A functional and process flow diagram of an energy-saving floor heating panel using a thermoelectric assembly operating in a heat pump mode has been developed. The technique and calculation of the main heat-and-power parameters of this installation are presented. Studies of a working prototype of a floor heating panel, which have shown the high energy efficiency of the installation being developed, have been performed. It is shown that energy saving is about 15% in comparison with the serially used equipment for local heating of young animals.

A functional flow diagram of an energy-saving dehumidifier and an air heater based on Peltier elements has been developed. A method for calculating the heat-power and design parameters of a thermoelectric assembly is presented. Physical modeling of the process of dehumidification and heating of air in a thermoelectric installation has been carried out. The results of tests of a working model of the thermoelectric dehumidifier and air heater are presented. Rational operating modes of the installation have been substantiated, and its energy efficiency in the heat pump mode has been shown.

The objective of this research is to establish an appropriate operating strategy for a radiant floor heating system that additionally has an air source heat pump for providing convective air heating separately, leading to heating energy saving and thermal comfort in residential buildings. To determine the appropriate optimal operating ratio of each system taking charge of combined heating systems, the energy consumption of the entire system was drawn, and the adaptive floor surface temperature was reviewed based on international standards and literature on thermal comfort. For processing heating loads with radiant floor heating and air source heating systems, the heating capacity of radiant floor heating by 1 °C variation in floor temperature was calculated, and the remaining heating load was handled by the heating capacity of the convective air heating heat pump. Consequently, when the floor temperature was 25 °C, all heating loads were removed by radiant floor heating only. When handling all heating loads with the heat pump, 59.2% less energy was used compared with radiant floor heating only. Considering the local discomfort of the soles of the feet, the floor temperature is expected to be suitable at 22–23 °C, and 31.5–37.6% energy saving compared with those of radiant floor heating alone were confirmed.

This paper provides an overview of a thermoelectric heat pump clothes dryer which was developed with the aim of reducing the significant primary energy consumption attributed to residential electric clothes drying in the United States (623 TBtu/yr). The use of thermoelectric modules in place of the conventional electric resistance heater resulted in a 40% reduction in the energy consumption of the system, compared to the minimum energy efficiency standard. This was achieved for the first time for a standard test load of 8.45 lb, using a clothes dryer prototype with a thermoelectric heat pump module as the sole heating mechanism. The current experimental prototype was developed after extensive modeling, system design and control optimization, and experimental system-level evaluation of control parameters. The demonstration of improved energy consumption has laid the foundation for future development of this technology.
