“Myiasis” is a parasitic infestation of live human or vertebrate animal tissues or cavities caused by dipterous larvae (maggots) which feed on the host’s dead or living tissue, liquid body substances or ingested food. The case is reported, probably the first in Bangladesh, tracheostomy myiasis. It was caused by infestation with larvae. The patient had undergone tracheostomy 3 years earlier and was a case of ca-larynx. The condition was treated by applying halothane to the tracheostomy wound, which caused spontaneous exit of approximately 30 larvae, easily removed with forceps. Predisposing factors could be: 1. Immuno-compromization due to post-irradiation state of patient; 2. Poor hygiene of tracheostomy tube; 3. Bad smell of wound, which attracts flies; 4. Living in a rural area deprived from necessary health care. Although this is not a lethal disorder, knowledge of the disease is necessary from the preventive, diagnostic and curative standpoint. It is important to proceed with identification of the larvae, distinguishing them from other types of myiasis involving different therapeutic implications. Myiasis is a parasitic infestation of human and animal tissues caused by larva of several fly species. Nosocomial myiasis is a type of myiasis that patient acquires infestation after admission to hospital and prevention of this infestation should be one of hospital authorities concerns. Therefore, we report a case of nosocomial oral myiasis caused by Lucilia sericata in a woman aged 78-yr-old hospitalized in a Heart Center in north of Iran Aug 2015. The significance of fly extermination in hospital was highlighted and emphasized. Besides, the etiology and different aspects of infestation were discussed elaborately.

Puerperal sepsis is an important cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in developing countries. This study was Myiasis is the infestation of live human and vertebrate animals with dipterous larvae, which at least for a period, feed on the host's dead or living tissue, liquid body substances, or ingested food. Intestinal myiasis is usually an accidental phenomenon, which occurs due to the ingestion of eggs or larvae present in food. Usually the patient is asymptomatic and the larvae are excreted harmlessly in the faeces. In some case it may be associated with symptoms. The present paper describes such a case.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjmm.v4i2.10832

The case involves a 10-year-old child who underwent a left radical nephrectomy for what was believed to be a Wilms’ tumor. Histopath examination indicated a benign vascular lesion, subsequently determined to be an anastomosing hemangioma of the kidney. A comparison with the previously cited pediatric patients with renal vascular tumors is provided, and the inconsistent diagnostic terminologies for these conditions are highlighted. The therapeutic implications of these predominantly benign renal tumors, in the context of the much more frequently encountered malignant neoplasms in children, are additionally discussed.

Background: Antenatal care is an important indicator in any health system. Through our study we intended to assess the perception of pregnant women regarding health seeking behaviour and awareness about complications during pregnancy. Methods: A qualitative study was carried out in August 2016, among the 41 pregnant women over 27 weeks of gestation in a rural area of south India. Women were selected randomly from the routine surveillance system maintained by Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences – Rural Health Training Centre, Chunampet, Kancheepuram District. Interviews audio recorded. After verbatim, manual coding and analysis was done based on pre decided eight themes. Results: In general all the antenatal women aware of the importance of regular antenatal check up. Knowledge regarding complications and danger sign was not adequate. Most of the women in rural area seek care in government facility due to its availability, accessibility and affordability. Decision making in health care is mostly taken by their husbands. Transportation has been identified as a barrier in seeking health care. Conclusions: Although few of the antenatal mothers in the study population were aware about some complications of pregnancy, but in general knowledge among most of the women was inadequate. There is a need for creating awareness among the antenatal mothers about common complications in pregnancy. On the other hand, the notion of routine care seeking during the antenatal period seems to be well rooted among the study population which is a very good sign. It is a good opportunity and is foundational to all other interventions relating to betterment of antenatal care in the community.
