Menopause is an inevitable stage of every woman’s life. This cross sectional study was conducted to assess the relationship between physical activity and menopausal symptoms from January to December 2017. By convenient sampling total 213 post menopausal women were interviewed from Mirpur, situated at the northern part of Dhaka. Five most prevalent menopausal symptoms were joint and muscular pain (90.1%), anxiety and sleep disturbance (80.3%), chest discomfort as well as physical and mental exhaustion (78.9%). Most of the respondents were physically active (63.4%), few were inactive (1.9%) and 34.7% respondents were Health Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA) active. The mean of total Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET)-minute per week was 2713.46 ± 1152.24 minutes. Menopausal symptoms retrieved from Menopause Rating Scale were assessed according to physical activity level. Physical and mental exhaustion was found statistically significant (p=0.04) with the higher proportion reported in divorced and widowed (90.5%). Significant relationship between psychological subscale and educational status was seen (p=.03). There was significant association between dryness of vagina and educational status (p<0.01). Physical and mental exhaustion and heart problems were found to be significantly higher among working women (p<.05). The relationship between BMI (Body Mass Index) and hot flash was found statistically significant (p<0.001). Significant statistical difference also was found between irritability and increase in BMI (p <0.001). Hot flash (p=0.001) and depression (p=0.002) were found to be statistically significant in relation with tobacco use. Uro genital symptoms ( p=.03), hot flash (p=0.01) and depression (p=0.009) were found to be statistically significant in relation with history of chronic disease. Only urinary problems were found statistically significant with HRT use. (p >.05). Anxiety was found statistically significant (p=.04) with highest proportion found in HEPA active women (89.2%). Proportion of sleep problems (100%), physical and mental exhaustion (100%), bladder problems (urinary incontinence) (75%), joint and muscular discomfort (100%) were more in inactive than minimally active and HEPA active women but the relationships were not statistically significant (p>.05). Abstract Objective: This study evaluated the relationship between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity level and physical activity (PA) by using an accelerometer and self-reported questionnaire.Results: The cross-sectional study included 34 patients with RA. We classified patients with a Disease Activity Score 28-erythrocyte sedimentation rate (DAS28-ESR) of less than and higher than 3.2 into the low-disease-activity (LDA) group and moderate/high-disease-activity (MHDA) group, respectively. PA was assessed using a triaxial accelerometer. We measured the wear time, time of vigorous-intensity PA (VPA), moderate-intensity PA (MPA), light-intensity PA (LPA), and sedentary behavior per day by using this device. Moreover, we evaluated the relationship between accelerometer-measured and self-reported PAs in each group. The accelerometer-measured moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) was 17.2 min/day and 10.6 min/day in the MHDA group and LDA group (p < .05), respectively. No significant association was observed between RA disease activity level and accelerometer-measured PA with adjustment for age and Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue score. No correlation was noted between accelerometer-measured MVPA and self-reported MVPA in the MHDA group, but these factors were correlated in the LDA group (rs = 0.5, p < .05). The RA disease activity level and accelerometer-measured PA were not correlated.

Introduction: Anxiety, depression and other mental problems are one of the important health problems on university campuses. The anxiety created by the exams in the students negatively affects the students' attitude and success towards the lessons. The studies carried out, the understanding the relationship between exercise, depression and anxiety, and positive results obtained were satisfying and also increased the value given to this issue. In our study, we examined the relationship between university students' physical activity level and exam anxiety. Material-Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 175 volunteer university students who did and did not do sports. The International Physical Activity Assessment Questionnaire (IPAQ) Long Form was used to measure the level of physical activity and the Exam Anxiety Inventory to determine the level of anxiety. Results: The rate of female patients was significantly higher in the inactive group than the minimally active and active group (p ˂ 0.05). In the inactive group, the test anxiety score was significantly higher (p ˂ 0.05) than the minimally active and active group. Conclusion: As a result, our research revealed that the physical activity levels of university students are quite low, especially in female students, and there is a relationship between the level of physical activity and anxiety.

Background: Menopause is defined as complete cessation of menses for twelve months or more. It is a normal physiological change experienced by middle aged women and some of the menopausal symptoms experienced by these women can be severe enough to affect their normal daily activities.Methods: An observational cross sectional study was carried out in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Era’s Lucknow Medical College and hospital, Lucknow for a period of one year.300 patients who had attained menopause were analyzed. Menopausal symptoms were assessed using Modified Menopause Rating Scale (MRS).Results: Majority of patients attained menopause at the age of 50-54 years and the calculated mean age came to be 50.33±5.26. The most common symptom reported was joint and muscular discomfort (87%), depressive mood (70%), heart discomfort (60.3%), physical and mental exhaustion (60%), sleep problems (56%). The most classical symptom of menopause i. e. hot flushes was reported in 53.3%. Prevalence of other symptoms in decreasing order were irritability (46.6%), anxiety (40.3%), bladder problem (26%), dryness of vagina (23%), sexual problems (20%). The menopausal symptoms were found to be more prevalent in women of lower socio economic strata and those who had no formal education and this difference was found to be statistically significant.Conclusions: There is a high burden of postmenopausal symptoms which have shown an increasing trend with advancement of age. This calls for establishment of specific health intervention for postmenopausal women through the existing health centres by having geriatric clinics.

This study investigated how perceived exercise benefit affects the relationship between cellphone usage and physical activity level. This cross-sectional study performed a survey of Taiwanese university students selected using cluster sampling. A total of 975 students were recruited (male = 367, female = 608, average age = 20.10 ± 1.42). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression. The results show that cellphone usage was negatively correlated with physical activity level, whereas perceived exercise benefit was negatively correlated with cellphone usage and positively correlated with physical activity level. In hierarchical regression, the main effects of cellphone usage and perceived exercise benefit explained 22% of the variance in physical activity level. After controlling for the main effect, the interaction term accounted for an additional 1% of the variance. Cellphone usage and perceived exercise benefit thus had significant power to explain physical activity level. The results of this study reveal a novel phenomenon—that students who perceived the benefits of exercise to be greater are more physically active.

BACKGROUND Protein intake plays an important role in the synthesis and maintenance of skeletal muscle in the prevention of health risks. It is also widely known that physical activity influences muscle function. However, no large-scale studies have examined the relationship between daily dietary habits, especially the timing of protein intake, and daily physical activity. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between protein intake and composition during the three meals and the amount of daily physical activity using a cross-sectional study design. METHODS Using the daily dietary data accumulated in the phone food-log application “Asken” and a web-based cross-sectional survey to the Asken users (total N = 8,458), we analyzed the nutrient intake and daily activity levels. RESULTS Correlation analysis revealed that breakfast and lunch protein intake had higher positive correlations with daily physical activity among the three major macronutrients (protein, fat, and carbohydrate). These findings were confirmed by multiple regression analysis with confounding factors. Also, participants with higher protein intake and composition at breakfast or lunch tended to exhibit significantly greater physical activity than those with the higher protein intake at dinner. CONCLUSIONS Among the three macronutrients, protein intake during breakfast and lunch was closely associated with daily physical activity.

Objectives: Our objective in this study was to establish the relationships among active and inactive physical activity, HRQoL, and weight stigma in children. Additionally, we investigated weight stigma as a mediator of the relationship between physical activity and HRQoL.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Hong Kong (June 2017-July 2018). Participants were 437 children in elementary school (2 primary schools and 2 non-governmental organizations) and their parents (dyads). Participants completed questionnaires containing items assessing demographic characteristics, physical activity level, and several HRQoL measures.Results: We found a statistically significant difference between a higher physically activity group (exercise > 2 hours/week) in all measures of HRQoL. Weight stigma had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between physical activity and child-rated HRQoL (Coefficient = -0.37; SE=0.05; t = 8.21; p < .001), parent-rated HRQoL (Coefficient = -0.16; SE = 0.04; t = 4.21; p < .001), and child-rated weight-related QoL (Coefficient = -0.56; SE = 0.04; t = 14.92; p < .001). Conclusions: Physical activity was associated with better HRQoL and lower weight stigma. Weight stigma appears to affect how physical activity is related to better HRQoL, but the association is somewhat weak.

This study aimed to evaluate the association between the presence of depressive symptoms and physical activity level (PAL) in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Cross-sectional study comprising 101 patients on HD, mean age 47.4±12.5 years. Sociodemographic data, economic, clinical, assessment of depressive symptoms (Beck Depression Scale - BDI), PAL (International Physical Activity Questionnaire - IPAQ), guidance for performing physical activity (PA) and time of HD. The prevalence of sedentary and depressive symptoms was 79.2% and 39.6%, respectively. Depressive symptoms were observed in 47.5% of sedentary patients (χ2=10.029, p=0.002), the ratio of prevalence of these symptoms five times higher in this group. 68.3% of patients on HD received no guidance for PA. Under 49 months of hemodialysis treatment, 63.8% of sedentary (χ2=3.011, p=0.083) and 57.5% of patients with depressive symptoms (χ2=0.100, p=0.752) already had these features. Although little is known about the relationship between depression and PA among patients undergoing HD, this study found that depressive symptoms were more prevalent among inactive. The results of this study demonstrate that patients undergoing HD have low PAL, relative presence of depressive symptoms and high lack of guidance on PA.

Background:Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, autoimmune inflammatory condition that affects 0.5% of the adult population worldwide (1). Sedentary behavior (SB) is any waking behavior characterized by an energy expenditure of ≤1.5 METs (metabolic equivalent) and a sitting or reclining posture, e.g. computer use (2) and has a negative impact on health in the RA population (3). Sleep is an important health behavior, but sleep quality is an issue for people living with RA (4, 5). Poor sleep quality is associated with low levels of physical activity in RA (4) however the association between SB and sleep in people who have RA has not been examined previously.Objectives:The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between SB and sleep in people who have RA.Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted. Patients were recruited from rheumatology clinics in a large acute public hospital serving a mix of urban and rural populations. Inclusion criteria were diagnosis of RA by a rheumatologist according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria age ≥ 18 and ≤ 80 years; ability to mobilize independently or aided by a stick; and to understand written and spoken English. Demographic data on age, gender, disease duration and medication were recorded. Pain and fatigue were measured by the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), anxiety and depression were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. SB was measured using the ActivPAL4™ activity monitor, over a 7-day wear period. Descriptive statistics were calculated to describe participant characteristics. Relationships between clinical characteristics and SB were examined using Pearson’s correlation coefficients and regression analyses.Results:N=76 participants enrolled in the study with valid data provided by N=72 participants. Mean age of participants was 61.5years (SD10.6) and the majority 63% (n = 47) were female. Participant mean disease duration was 17.8years (SD10.9). Mean SB time was 533.7 (SD100.1) minutes (8.9 hours per day/59.9% of waking hours). Mean sleep quality score was 7.2 (SD5.0) (Table 1). Correlation analysis and regression analysis found no significant correlation between sleep quality and SB variables. Regression analysis demonstrated positive statistical associations for SB time and body mass index (p-value=0.03846, R2 = 0.05143), SB time and pain VAS (p-value=0.009261, R2 = 0.07987), SB time and HADS (p-value = 0.009721, R2 = 0.08097) and SB time and HADSD (p-value = 0.01932, R2 = 0.0643).Conclusion:We found high levels of sedentary behavior and poor sleep quality in people who have RA, however no statistically significant relationship was found in this study. Abstract Background Many studies have already reported on the relationship between exercise habits and health among schoolchildren. However, few have examined social and/or family factors as determinants of exercise habits. Methods This study’s participants included 1721 schoolchildren aged between 6 and 13 who were involved in the Super Shokuiku School Project in January 2016. A survey was conducted to assess gender, grade level, physical activity, lifestyle, overall health, enrichment of school life, social background, and parental lifestyles. Both dislike and lack of physical activity were used to measure poor exercise habits; correlates were analyzed using logistic regression. Results “Lack of close friends” had the strongest links with both dislike (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 5.30; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.78–10.1) and lack of (adjusted OR 5.40; 95% CI, 2.81–10.4) physical activity. Further, children who engaged in long periods of screen time and lacked parental communication also tended to dislike and lack physical activity. Children with mothers who were unemployed (housewives) and had unhealthy lifestyles, as well as those with poor health, were also more likely to lack physical activity. Conclusion Social and family factors (e.g., having close friends) may be determinants of exercise habits among schoolchildren, independent of their own lifestyle factors. Although a longitudinal study is needed to determine causality, substantial attention may thus be required to these factors when promoting physical activity in children.

Background:This survey aims to assess the prevalence of physical activity among adult Lebanese, and to report the relationship between sociodemographic variables and physical activity behavior, highlighting the correlates discouraging people to carry out physical activity.Methods:A cross-sectional study using an anonymous self-reported questionnaire was conducted on 346 adults from four Lebanese districts. Demographic characteristics, physical activity, smoking status, alcohol consumption, and medical history were obtained.Results:Prevalence of physical activity among Lebanese adults was 55.5% (192/346). Age, BMI, marital status, medical history, occupation, educational level, and smoking were significantly associated with physical activity (P < .05). Inactive obese participants were about three times more likely to report hypertension and diabetes than inactive normal weight participants (P = .013). BMI was significantly higher among inactive participants (P = .014).Conclusion:Physical activity among Lebanese adults was comparable to other populations. Married, non–office workers, and smokers were the main correlates of physical inactivity in Lebanese adulthood.
