Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is now an emerging epidemic in developing countries including Bangladesh. Younger people are being affected here more and more. Young individuals with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) may have unique presentation, risk factor, angiographic profile and outcome which may have an influence on the preventive strategies. This study is an attempt to investigate the same. Methods: Young patients (aged d” 40 yrs) with AMI admitted to the coronary care unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital over a period of one year were included in the study. Assessments of the patients were done with clinical history, physical examination and systemic evaluation. Location and types (STEMI, NSTEMI) of myocardial infarction were determined by ECG and serum troponin- 1 assay. Blood for glucose and lipid profile was drawn within 24 hours of admission. High sensitivity testing for C-reactive protein (hs CRP) was done in all patients. Coronary angiography was done within 6 weeks of hospital discharge. Results: A total of 83 Patients with age d” 40 years were included .Age range were 21-40 years (34.21 ± 5.07 yrs). There were 71 male (85.5%). Male: female ratio was 5.9:1. Most of the young AMI patients presented lately to the hospital. Majority of these patients were thinly built, came from urban or semiurban areas, engaged in heavy physical activities and belonged to lower socioeconomic group. A positive family history of CAD was present in 18 patients (28.68 %). Smoking was the most prevalent risk factor followed by a raised serum triglyceride or low high density lipoprotein (HDL). A raised hs CRP was present in 47 patients (49.39%). The overall in hospital mortality was only 3.61 %. Coronary angiography done in 38 patients revealed single vessel disease in the majority. Conclusion: The study focuses our attention to the rising incidence of AMI in young individuals who are less prone to CAD. Early detection of AMI and timely intervention needs high index of suspicion in this age group. These young patients have got low BMI High TG, Low HDG High hs CRP & habit of smoking. Avoidance of smoking, controlling high TG and/or low HDL may reduce incidence of AMI among young patients. Background: Coronary artery diseases are one of the major challenges faced by cardiologists. Control of certain risk factors for CAD is associated with decrease in mortality and morbidity from myocardial infarction and unstable angina. So, identification and taking appropriate measures for primary and secondary prevention of such risk factors is, therefore, of great importance. This retrospective study was carried at the newly set up cath lab in Dhaka Medical college. Materials and Methods: Total 228 consecutive case undergone diagnostic coronary angiogram from 10th January 2007 to31st January 2009 out of which 194(80%) were male and 34 (20%) were female. In both sexes most of the patients were between 41 to 60 years of age. Risk factors of the patients were evaluated. Results: In females commonest risk factor was Diabetes (58.8%) followed by dyslipidaemia (35.3%). In males commonest risk factor was hypertension (30.9%) followed by smoking (29.9%) and diabetes (28.3%). In males 44.3% patients presented with acute myocardial infarction followed by stable angina (43.3%); but in females stable angina was the commonest presentation (50.0%) followed by myocardial infarction (38.2%).CAG findings revealed that in males 33.5% had double vessel disease 26.8% followed by single vessel 26.8% and multivessel disease 25.3%. In females normal CAG was found in 35.5% followed by double vessel 23.5%, multivessel 20.6% and single vessel 20.6%. On the basis of CAG findings; in males 41.8% patients were recommended for CABG, followed by PTCA & stenting 26.3% and medical therapy 30.0%; where as in females 55.9% were recommended for medical therapy , followed by CABG 32.4% and PTCA & stenting11.8%. Conclusion: The commonest presentation of CAD was 4th and 5th decades in both sexes. Diabetes and dyslipidaemia were more common in females whereas hypertension and smoking were more common in males. Myocardial infarction and stable angina were most common presentation in both sexes though in males myocardial infarction was more common. In males the angiographic severity of CAD was more and they were more subjected for CABG in comparison to females. Key words: Risk factors; Coronary angiography. This cross sectional type of descriptive study was carried out among the patients attending the Skin and Venereal Disease (VD) Out Patient Department (OPD) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) from August 2006 to November 2006 with a view to explore the current situation of scabies and its predisposing factors. In this regard 213 clinically diagnosed scabies contracted patients were interviewed randomly by using pre-tested questionnaire. Risk factors were assessed considering their dwelling places, types of families, number of family members, persons living in each room, using fomites of infected persons, socioeconomic condition, occupation, level of education, regular bathing and cloth washing habit along with age, sex distribution and clinical presentation of scabies. The mean age of the respondents was 13.16 years with a standard deviation (SD) of ±5.38 years and majority (36.15%) was in the age group of 1-5 years. Male, female ratio was 1.15:1. Major level of education was in the group of class I to V (38%). 50.73% had family members comprised of 4 to 6. Majority (38.50%) belonged to lower middle class (income 3001-6000 taka/month). Among the respondents maximum (54.93%) were infected by family members. 77.94% respondents used fomites of affected persons and 66% respondents shared beds of infected persons. Mean duration of illness was 42 days with standard deviation of ±4.47 days. Among the male, majority (82.63%) had lesion on lower abdomen and buttock. In contrary, 80.28% female had lesion on hand. 58.68% presented with papule. The study recommends that emphasis should be given on personal hygiene and life style of people as well as educating them about scabies. • Introduction - Recently, the prevalence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has been increasing in the younger generation. With the advances in the field of medicine, elevated serum levels of various biomarkers like c-reactive protein (CRP), various lipoproteins and homocysteine have been identified to be related to AMI. • Objective - To clinically diagnose acute myocardial infarction in young patients and correlate the levels of serum lipoprotein, serum homocysteine and serum hs-crp and to calculate the level of risk depending on their levels. • Method - A hospital based observational study in which 50 subjects were enrolled in the study as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria. • Results - The results support the current global findings of the younger generation, especially the males, being affected by AMI (Acute Myocardial Infarction). Sedentary lifestyle and BMI >25 can be considered as major risk factors leading to AMI. A considerable proportion of our AMI patients had significantly elevated levels of homocysteine, hs-CRP and lipoprotein A and low levels of HDL-C indicating their correlation with AMI.

The study was conducted among 568 patients of STDs out of 58560 male and female patients in the OPD of Dermatology Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) during the period of March 2009 to February 2010 irrespective of sex and age >15 years with a view to assess the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases. In this study prevalence of STDs such as gonorrhea, syphilis, non gonococcal urethritis, chancroid, genital herpes and genital warts were 29.58%, 12.68%, 41.58%,4.93%,8.45% and 2.82% respectively; male and female ratio were 3.73:1. The highest prevalence rate was found in age group of 25-34 years (42.25%). According to educational status of the respondents, 33.80% were up to secondary level and only 2.82% were master degree holder. Among occupation 36.62% were in service, and 15.49% were students. Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction is the leading cause of death. Streptokinase is the most commonly used thrombolytic agent. This study was conducted to compare in-hospital outcome of patients with acute myocardial infarction receiving streptokinase with those not receiving it. Materials & Methods: This descriptive observational study was conducted at Coronary Care Unit, North East Medical College Hospital from 1st July August 2016 to 30th June 2018. 340 patients having acute MI were in- cluded in the study. Two groups were formed: sk group receiving streptokinase and non-sk group not receiving. In-hospital mortality was the primary end point while mechanical and electrical complications were the secondary end points. Results: Among 340 patients, 255(75%) were males and 85(25%) females. Out of those 218 received strep-tokinase, while 122 did not. Mean age of sk group was 53.15±10.30 years and non-sk group 60.5±16 ears. Mean time of arrival to the hospital after symptom onset was 10.41±9.97 hours. SK group patients reached in 5.9±4.76 hours while non-sk group in 19.4±10.5 hours. In-hospital mortality in sk and non-sk group was 19(8.7%) and 25(20.5%) respectively, p=0.002. Complication rate was significantly higher in the non-sk group, 54.09% vs 34.86%, p=0.04. Conclusion: Patients of acute myocardial infarction receiving streptokinase have significantly lesser in-hospital mortality and complications as compared to patients not receiving it.
