The study was conducted at the USDA Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Biotechnology, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during May to June 2006 to investigate the effect of different concentrations of IBA (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mg/l) with Vacin and Went (VW) medium and charcoal on root formation in Dendrobium orchid. Four parameters such as number of roots plantlet-1, length of root, fresh weight of root and days required for root formation were recorded at three DAIs (10, 20 and 30). The use of different concentrations of IBA had significant effects on the parameters examined. The best results were obtained from 1.0 mg/l IBA treatment in which the number of root was 1.81 plantlet-1, length of root 0.35 cm, fresh weight of root 0.16g at 30 DAI and the minimum days to root formation was 10.8. Effects of different concentrations of 2-ip and IBA in WPM basal medium for Blomidon blueberry in vitro propagation and four different rooting agents at the early stage after transplantation showed that 15 mg/l of 2-ip is the best concentration to induce shoots. Cinnamon plant is considered one of important medicinal plants because it is rich with many active compounds. This research is aimed to study possible effects of extract in culture media of Gardenia jasmenoides. Alcoholic extract was prepared from the bark of cinnamon at different concentrations (0.0, 1.0, 2.0) mg/L, then added to culture media to notice the effect of these concentrations on the growth and development of tissues and organs of Gardenia jasmenoides Ellis in vitro. Results showed the positive effect of increasing callus fresh weight and shoot proliferation from single nodes with presence of plant regulators, 5.0 mg/L Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and 3.0 mg/L Benzyl adenine (BA). Results showed that extract has a slight effect on root formation with the presence of plant regulators or when it is alone.

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is a crop that can produce resveratrol, a compound with various biological properties, such as those that exert antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory effects. In this study, trans-resveratrol was detected in the roots, leaves, and stems of tan and purple seed coat peanuts (Arachis hypogaea) cultivated in a growth chamber. Both cultivars showed higher levels of resveratrol in the roots than the other plant parts. Thus, both cultivars were inoculated with Agrobacterium rhizogenes, in vitro, to promote hairy root development, thereby producing enhanced levels of t-resveratrol. After 1 month of culture, hairy roots from the two cultivars showed higher levels of fresh weight than those of seedling roots. Furthermore, both cultivars contained higher t-resveratrol levels than those of their seedling roots (6.88 ± 0.21 mg/g and 28.07 ± 0.46 mg/g, respectively); however, purple seed coat peanut hairy roots contained higher t-resveratrol levels than those of tan seed coat peanut hairy roots, ranging from 70.16 to 166.76 mg/g and from 46.61 to 54.31 mg/g, respectively. The findings of this study indicate that peanut hairy roots could be a good source for t-resveratrol production due to their rapid growth, high biomass, and substantial amount of resveratrol.

Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is an illicit drug, which may be derived in plants from a stress-inducible metabolite known as gamma-aminobutyrate. Here, oxygen deficiency caused the accumulation of GHB in green tea and soybean sprouts (76 and 155 nmol g-1 fresh weight, respectively). These findings demonstrate that GHB levels are elevated in severely modified atmospheres, but they pose no risk to human health. Further work is required to assess the extent of this phenomenon. The in vitro glucose consumption and lactic acid production by erythrocytes from 20 cattle of a Beef Synthetic (SY) breed group and 25 cattle of a double-muscled (DM) breed group were determined. There were three age groups and two sexes within each breed group. Animals within the DM breed group were categorized as either phenotypically normal- to moderate-muscled (DM carriers) or extreme-muscled (extreme DM) based on the phenotypic expression of the double-muscling trait and on their breeding history. Both DM phenotypes had higher (P < 0.01) erythrocyte glucose consumption and lactic acid production than normal-muscled, noncarrier cattle of the SY breed group. Extreme DM cattle were not different (P > 0.05) in either their erythrocyte glucose consumption or lactic acid production compared with DM carriers. No difference (P > 0.05) due to breed or phenotype was observed in the molar ratio of lactic acid produced to glucose consumed by erythrocytes. These results suggest that carriers of the Double Muscled Syndrome, regardless of phenotypic expression of the double-muscling trait, have a higher rate of erythrocyte glycolysis than normal cattle. Purpose. Еxperimental substantiation of the effectiveness of biocompatible biodegradable hydrogels based on hyaluronic acid and chitosan succinate as a carrier of ranibizumab in antiglaucoma operations. Material and methods. Hydrogel drainage (HD) was obtained immediately before surgery. A solution of ranibizumab (0.23 ml) was mixed with a solution of hyaluronic acid dialdehyde (0.5 ml), then a solution of chitosan succinate (0.5 ml) was added. Experimental studies were performed in 12 (12 eyes) healthy rabbits. The first group consisted of 6 eyes – 0.187 ml of ranibizumab per 1 ml of gel. In the control group, HD was used intraoperatively without the addition of ranibizumab (6 eyes). Morphological studies were performed on 7th, 21st, and 42nd days. Results. In experimental studies in vitro and in vivo, it was proved that ranibizumab, administered as a part of 0.1 ml of hydrogel drainage in the antiglaucoma surgery area is released within 3 weeks and suppresses vascularization, scarring of the operating area, and preserves the intrascleral cavity. The optimal concentration of ranibizumab was selected-0.02 ml in 0.1 ml of gel. Conclusion. The safety and effectiveness of the use of hydrogel drainage with ranibizumab based on hyaluronic acid dialdehyde and chitosan succinate in anti-glaucoma operations has been proven. Nodal explants of 12 accessions from four species of yam (Dioscorea spp.) were cultured for six weeks on MS to evaluate the influence of IAA, Kn, NAA and BAP on the production of leaves and microtubers. Four Dioscorea polystachya Turcz., three each of D. bulbifera L. and D. sansibarensis Pax. and two D. japonica Thunb. accessions were used. Five and 10 mg/l of Kn along with IAA and sucrose, and 0.2 and 0.5 mg/l of NAA, sucrose and with or without BAP were used in four treatments. The accessions Yam 23 and Yam 25 of D. sansibarensis failed to initiate any leaf under four treatments. The remaining accessions produced 0.11 to 1.76 leaves per explant. The medium containing IAA with higher concentration of Kn (10 mg/l) and 3% sucrose was found to be best for in vitro production of leaf (0.71/explant) and the most productive species was D. japonica (1.36), followed by D. polystachya (1.19/explant). At the same culture period, Yam 16 of D. bulbifera failed to initiate any microtuber at IAA with Kn, and NAA with or without BAP. The remaining accessions produced 0.09 to 1.15 microtubers per explant. Lower concentration of Kn (5 mg/l) with IAA and sucrose was favourable for producing microtubers (0.61/explant on an average), the best species being D. sansibarensis (1.27) followed by D. japonica (0.59/ explant). The study was undertaken with a view to investigate the effects of different basal media and organic extracts on organogenesis of Dendrobium orchid. Protocorm like bodies (PLBs) were cultured in Knudson C (KC), Vacin and Went (VW), half strength Murashige and Skoog (½MS) and New Phalaenopsis (NP) media supplemented with Sabri banana pulp (Sb), Charcoal (C) and Coconut water (Cw) organic extracts. KC, VW, ½MS and NP media significantly influenced the plantlet regeneration of Dendrobium orchid. Among the media, ½MS showed better performance on fresh weight, number PLBs, shoots and leaves per plantlet, The longest shoots were found in KC medium and maximum length of leaves was found in both KC and ½MS media. In case of different organic extracts Sb showed significantly better performance on fresh weights of PLBs, number of shoot and leaves per explant, length of shoots and leaves. Shoot tip explants from in vitro germinated seedlings of Solanum capsicoides All. inoculated on MS containing 2 mg/l BA produced maximum shoot induction response (26 shoots per explant). Rooting of the microshoots (19.4 roots per explant) was obtained better in half strength of MS supplemented with NAA (0.5 mg/l).
