Stevia represents an interesting species for the development of new ingredients characterized by a low caloric contribution having high antioxidant and phytochemical properties. As a valuable organic fertilizer, poultry manure (PM) serves as a suitable alternate to chemical fertilizer due to having higher total solid content than most other manures. The present study was conducted in the net house of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, BangladeshAgriculturalUniversity, Mymensingh to evaluate the effects of poultry manure on growth and leaf yield of stevia and post-harvest soil fertility. The experiment was laid out in a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. PM was applied at rates of 0, 5, 7.5 and 10 t ha−1. Data of the plant height, number of branches and number of leaves per plant were collected at 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 days after planting (DAP). At harvest, leaf area, fresh weight, dry weight of leaves of stevia  and post-harvest soil were evaluated. Plant that received 5 t ha−1 of PM was the best with respect to all the parameters assessed except post-harvest soil fertility. The contents of total N, available P, exchangeable K, Ca, Mg, available S, Zn and B were significantly increased with the increased levels of PM up to 10 t ha−1 in both soils. pH and soil organic matter content were also increased several folds and favored higher growth and yield of stevia. It can be recommended from the findings of the study that farmers should apply PM @ 5 t ha−1 to obtain maximum growth and leaf yield of stevia where as PM @ 10 t ha−1  can be applied for maintaining soil fertility in the agro-climatic condition of Bangladesh.J. With increased pressure on cropping land, traditional soil fertility regeneration has become less effective. Farmers with no alternatives would therefore be compelled to cultivate on marginal lands, highly risking crop failure and food security. Soil fertility can be improved by employing Agroforestry principles of incorporating organic inputs into the soil. This study investigated the effects of leaf mulch of Gliricidia sepium, Senna siamea and Leucaena leucocephala and their combination with inorganic fertilizer on maize (Zea mays L) growth and yield. The study was conducted in a randomized completely block design at the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resource farm, KNUSTGhana. Fresh leaf biomass at 5 t ha]1 weight was incorporated into the soil and compared with the addition of inorganic fertilizer at 0, 30 and 60 kg N ha Â]1 levels. Soil laboratory analysis showed that the mineral content of the leaf biomass varied with L. leucocephala having the highest N content and S. siamea having the lowest N content. The addition of the different levels of the inorganic fertilizer to the leaf biomass significantly influenced the yield of maize. Combining leaf biomass of S. siamea, G. sepium and L. leucocephala with inorganic fertilizer significantly increased maize yield and can be recommended for improving maize and other crop production.

Poultry litter is increasingly used as organic amendment in market gardening in Côte d’Ivoire. To know about the sustainability of this practice, its impacts on soil quality should be known. This study aimed at assessing the effect on soil fertility of composted poultry litter addition for 16 years following two distinct ways, and identifying soil parameters driving cucumber yield. Trials were laid out in a Fisher randomized block design with 3 treatments replicated 5 times each: Control (C), Surface-applied compost (SAC) and Buried compost (BC). Soil (0-20 cm) chemical characteristics and cucumber growth and yield parameters were measured. Values of all parameters were higher with compost addition compared to the control, except for the C:N ratio. SAC and BC showed similar values of organic C, total N, CEC, pH and available phosphorus. However, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+ and base saturation were higher in SAC than in BC. Relative to values in the control, the greatest changes in soil parameters were observed with exchangeable cations, followed by soil organic matter. Soil organic C and total N concentrations have doubled in SAC while Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+ increased at greater rate (702.4, 400.9 and 186.67% respectively). Also, cucumber growth parameters were the highest with compost addition compared to the control. Significant effect of the compost application way on cucumber was also observed: collar diameter, leaf area and fresh fruit yield in SAC (0.72±0.02 cm, 258.9±12.3 cm2, 11.1±1.3 t ha-1, respectively) were higher than in BC (0.56±0.01 cm, 230.2±2.5 cm2, 5.4±0.5 t ha-1 respectively). Fruit yields in SAC and BC were four times and twice higher than in the control (2.6±0.3 t ha-1), respectively. Cucumber growth parameters were determined by soil concentration in Mg2+ while yield was determined by Ca2+. Composted poultry litter should be promoted for a sustainable soil fertility management in vegetable farming systems.

The present experiment was carried out during the 2010 planting season, atthe Teaching and Research Farms, School of Agriculture, Lagos State Polytechnic,Ikorodu, Lagos State with the view to produce liquid fertilizer fromwater hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipies) and compare its effectiveness withpoultry manure on the performance and yield of fluted pumpkin (Telfairiaoccidentalis). Data on number of leaves and length of main vine 2 weeksbefore fertilizer application (BFA) and 3, 6 and 9 weeks after fertilizer application (WAFA) and the yield at harvesting were collected and subjected to Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and means compared using Least Significance Difference (LSD). The results showed that at 3 WAFA, water hyacinth had the highest number of leaves (245) and longest length main vine (2.04 cm) and in terms of yield at harvesting, water hyacinth (16.08 kg) was not significantly different (P>0.05) compared to poultry manure (18.13 kg) application. From the study it can be concluded that water hyacinth liquid fertilizer can be utilized as good source of organic fertilizer for the growth of fluted pumpkin and thus serve as veritable means of curbing the menace of water hyacinth on our water ways.

Stevia is important for its leaves which are used as non calorie sweetener and also in many therapeutic applications including diabetes. The present investigation was carried out in the net house of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to investigate the integrated effects of poultry manure (PM) and chemical fertilizer (CF) on the growth, leaf biomass yield and stevioside content of stevia grown in two contrasting soils (acid and non-calcareous) of Bangladesh. Six combinations of PM and CF viz. PM0+CF0, PM0+CF100, PM3+CF50, PM3+CF75, PM5+CF50, PM5+CF75 were used. The study revealed that PM along with different percentages of chemical fertilizers exerted significant influence on the growth, leaf yield and stevioside content of stevia. The highest values of all the parameters except stevioside were found from the plant receiving PM @ 3 t ha-1 along with 75% CF. The leaf biomass yield was 1088% and 867% higher in acid soil and non-calcareous soil, respectively, over control. Stevioside content was increased with increasing the levels of PM up to 5 t ha-1 and also with the advancement of growth period from 30 to 60 days after planting. The highest amount of stevioside (10.45%) was detected in the leaves of the plant that received PM @ 5 t ha-1 along with 75% CF at 60 DAP in acid soil and it was 9.11% in non-calcareous soil at the same period. The lowest values of all the parameters including stevioside content were obtained from the plant which received neither PM nor CF. Considering the overall performance, farmers may be advised to cultivate stevia in acid soil applying PM @ 3 t ha-1 along with 75% chemical fertilizer to boost up the production of stevia under the agro-climatic condition of the study area in the context of Bangladesh.J. To explore the soil fertility and tea quality and yield during the process of replacing chemical fertilizer with organic fertilizer, we established three experiment groups: experimental group I (formulated fertilization and biogas slurry), experimental group II (habitual fertilization) and experimental group III (formulated fertilization). Comparing with soil fertility, quality and heavy metal contents in fresh leaves among three groups in five tea gardens of Mingshan District, explores the effects of three different fertilization treatments on. The results showed that the experimental group I and experimental group III could improve soil fertility (including increasing the organic matter, total nitrogen and alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen content) compared with the experimental group II. On the Fresh leaf yield, experimental group I> experimental group III > experimental group II(P<0.05), in which experimental group I was 27.26% higher than experimental group III. On yield, different treatments had less effect on the main quality components of fresh leaves (P>0.05).Compared with the experimental group II and the experimental group III, the heavy metal content of the experimental group I was higher, but no more than the food safety standard limit. In summary, experimental group I and experimental group III can effectively improve soil fertility and fresh leaf yield compared with conventional fertilization, particular experimental group I.

Organic manures as a source of plant nutrients for the cultivation of field crops has received worldwide attention due to rising costs, rapid nutrient loss and adverse environmental impacts from inorganic fertilizers. A pot experiment was conducted in the net house of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, BangladeshAgriculturalUniversity, Mymensingh to observe the effects of cow dung on growth, yield of stevia along with post-harvest fertility status of soil. Four treatments of CD viz. 0, 5, 7.5 and 10 t ha–1 in two contrasting soils (acid and non-calcareous) were examined following Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. Growth and yield attributes increased significantly with the advancement of growth period (60 DAP) and increased rate of CD up to 10 t ha–1. An overall performance of non-calcareous soil was better than acid soil. In non-calcareous soil, the leaf biomass yield was increased by 275% whereas in acid soil it was 268% over control. The acidity of both soils significantly decreased with the increased rate of CD. All essential plant nutrients viz. total N, available P exchangeable K, Ca, Mg, available S, Zn, B and organic matter content of soil were significantly increased with the increased levels of CD up to its highest dose (CD @ 10 t ha–1) in both soils. Thus from the findings of the present research work it can be concluded that for getting optimum leaf biomass yield of stevia along with fertility of both soils CD should be applied @ 10 t ha–1J. The Effect of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers on The Growth and Results of Green Mustard (Brassica rapa L.). Green mustard (Brassica rapa L.) is a vegetable that preferred by many consumers, this causes many farmers cultivate this vegetables. One of the important factor in the cultivation of green mustard is fertilizer type. Alternative to improve soil quality and fertility is by providing organic matter. A field research was conducted to evaluate the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of green mustard, in Banjar Taman Tande, Baturiti Village, Bedugul from April to June 2018. This study was designed with a Randomized Block Design with nested patterns consisting of two factors. The first factor was the type of fertilizer, which was consisted of four types of organic fertilizer, namely: vermicompost, cow manure, chicken manure, goat manure and inorganic fertilizers (NPK Mutiara). The second factor was fertilizer dosage, which was consisted of three levels, namely: 0 tons/ha, 15 tons/ha, and 30 tons/ha, while for NPK Mutiara fertilizer dosages, namely: 0 kg/ha, 150 kg/ha, and 300 kg/ha.The results showed that the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers were not significantly different on the growth and yield of green mustard plants and RAE values. The total N content of soil on vermicompost treatment was 0.23% equal to NPK Mutiara. The total population of soil microbes on vermicompost treatment under dosage of 15 tons/ha and 30 tons/ha were 1.4 x 106 cfu/g that was much higher compared to NPK Mutiara 150 kg/ha fertilizer (0.3 x 106 cfu/g).

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season (2014-16) at Research Farm, R.B.S. College, Bichpuri, Agra (U.P.) to study the effect of nitrogen and FYM levels on growth, yield and uptake of nutrients in oat (Avena sativa L.) and soil fertility. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with four levels of nitrogen (0,50,100 and 150 kg ha-1) and three levels of FYM (0, 5 and 10 t ha-1) with three replications. The results revealed that the plant height, yields of oat crop increased significantly up to 150 kg N and 10 t FYM ha-1 over control. The maximum values of green foliage (447.16 and 414,03 qha-1) and dry matter yield (64.98 and 60.30 q ha-1) were recorded with 150 kg N and 10 t FYM ha-1 , respectively. The application of FYM alone was also found to be more beneficial in terms of growth and yield of oat crop over control. The interaction effect between 150 kg N ha-1 and 10 t FYM ha-1 recorded maximum yield than other treatment combination. The maximum content (14.14 and 14.10 %) and yield of protein in oat crop (920.6 and 853.5 kg ha-1) were recorded with 150 kg N and 10 t FYM ha-1 but maximum value of crude fiber (32.96 and 33.7 %) were recorded under control, respectively. However, crude fiber content in oat was not affected significantly with N and FYM levels. The uptake of major (N,P and K) and micronutrients (Fe,Mn,Cu and Zn) by oat crop increased significantly with the levels of nitrogen up to 150 kg ha-1 and FYM 10 t ha-1, respectively. The status of organic carbon and available nutrients in post harvest soil improved with 150 kg N and 10 t FYM ha-1.The minimum amounts of available nutrients in post harvest soil were recorded under control treatment.

Utilization of organic material in crop farming is one of the methods to exploit the local wisdom in agricultural practice. The research was conducted from June to September 2012 in the research farm, State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The objective of the research was to investigate the effects of organic materials and crop density ? in growth and yield on cucumber. Randomized block design with 2 factors and 4 replications was employed in this study. The first factor consists of three levels organic fertilizer treatments i.e. no fertilizer, poultry manure, and compost of oil palm empty bunch. Second factor comprises of three levels of crop density i.e. 1, 2, and 3 plants per pot).. The results showed that there was significant increase on growth and yield on cucumber with poultry manure treatment compare to that of with compost of oil palm empty bunch. Increasing crop density ? improves the number and weight of cucumber yield per pot, even though, some parameters, i.e. number of leaves, stem diameter, crop dry weight, productive number of branches, cucumber size and cucumber weight per plant were significantly decreased.
