Plant physiological parameters such as membrane thermostability, canopy temperature depression, leaf chlorophyll content and yield related traits like no. of spikelets per spike, no. of grains per spike, 200-grain weight and grain yield of 18 wheat genotypes were carried out to assess for heat tolerance. Performances of all the genotypes were found to have significant differences for all the traits except canopy temperature depression. But, canopy temperature depression with some other traits like leaf chlorophyll content, no. of grains per spike, 200-grain weight and grain yield per plant demonstrated significant differences when it grown in heat stress condition. In general, genotypes with higher leaf chlorophyll content and enhanced membrane thermostability demonstrated higher 200-grain weight or grain yield. Besides, in spite of having heat tolerant traits, several genotypes performed poor due to their poor genotypic potential. The present investigation has successfully isolated several genotypes viz. H024, H023, H022 and H018 with desirable traits related to heat tolerance based on overall performance while grown under heat stress. One ninety diverse wheat genotypes were evaluated for genetic varaibilty, heritability and genetic advance under norrmal and heat stress environment at the Research Farm of Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut U. P. (India). The genotypes were grown in simple augmented block design and data were collected on fifteen morpho-agronomic characters. Analysis of observed data showed that the mean squares due to treatments for all the traits in both the environment were highly significant. GCV and PCV were highest for canopy temperature depression, grain weight/spike, biological yield/plant, grain yield/plant, tiller number./plant and lowest for days to anthesis. Heritability (bs) estimates were high for canopy temperature depression (CTD), followed by biological yield/plant, grain weight/ spike, grain number. /spike, 1000- grain weight, grain yield/plant, tiller number./plant and lowest for days to heading and days to anthesis in case of both environments. The estimates of genetic advance (GA) were highest for canopy temperature depression followed by grain weight/spike, biological yield/plant, grain yield/spike, tiller number./plant, grain number./spike and lowest for days to heading and days to anthesis under both ( numberrmal and heat stress) environment. This study suggests that the presence of adequate genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for these traits under norrmal and heat stress environment is suitable for breeding programs and crop improvement.

To estimate the level of heat tolerance for different genotypes of bread wheat with respect to morphological characters under studied grains/ spike, grain weight/spike, grain filling duration (duration between the anthesis stage and the physiological maturity), 1000-kernel weight and grain yield/plant for yield. Physiological traits like relative injury (RI %), chlorophyll content, canopy temperature depression (CTD), were used in present investigation to contribute toward capability of plants to tolerate heat stress of the yield contributing traits during heat stress.The findings of present investigation had clearly explained that influences of environments on morpho physiological characters i.e. grain yield per plant (14886.15) and its attributing traits i.e. spike length (459.7), tillers per plant (622.34), spikelets per spike (278.1), 1000 kernel weight (13262.39), grain weight per spike (177.89) and number of grains per spike (2898.44) in wheat were highly significant and positive. Among the parent and their crosses had handsome amount of variations across the environment. The results of interaction for environments with parents, lines, testers and their crosses with respect to morpho physiological characters in wheat was found significant for some characters while variation was absent for other characters studied. Physiological traits like relative injury per cent, chlorophyll content and CTD were vital parameters to quantify the degree of heat stress to develop tolerant genotypes which is urgent and present need under changing climate scenario.

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during June to November 2016 in order to find out the effect of variety and planting arrangement on weed control and yield performance of transplanted Aman rice. The experiment consisted of four varieties viz., Binadhan-7, Binadhan-12, Binadhan-17 and Binadhan-16 and five planting arrangement viz. 25cm × 20cm, 25cm × 15cm, 20cm × 20cm, 20cm × 15cm and 15cm × 15cm. The experiment was laid out in Split Plot Design with three replications. Results indicated that the highest weed density (90.93 m-2), weed biomass (131.87 gm-2), leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD value) (40.02), sterile spikelets panicle-1 (76.86) ,% sterility panicle-1 (28.66), grain yield (4.51 t ha-1) and straw yield (4.63 t ha-1) were obtained from Binadhan-17. The variety Binadhan-7 showed the best performance in respect of number of total tillers hill-1 (11.06), number of effective tillers hill-1 (10.12) compared to the other varieties used in the study. The highest leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD value) (36.48), plant height (99.72 cm), panicle length (22.03 cm), number of total tillers hill-1 (10.21) and number of effective tillers hill-1 (9.45) were found at 25 cm × 20 cm planting arrangement. The highest grain yield (4.31 t ha-1) was recorded from 20cm × 15cm planting arrangement. The interaction between variety and planting arrangement showed numerically higher grain yield (5.38 t ha-1) from Binadhan-7 at 20cm × 15cm planting arrangement, whereas the lowest grain yield (2.61 t ha-1) was achieved from the variety Binadhan-12 at 15cm × 15cm planting arrangement. It can be concluded that Binadhan-7 at 20cm × 15cm planting arrangement may be used for achieving the best yield with less weed interference in Aman season.
