Recently, technology has been an integral part of education. Teachers must use technology into their teaching practices in order to adapt to society's digital revolution. One of the strategies that can be implemented by the teachers is utilizing Canvas as one of Learning Management Systems (henceforth LMS) in their course. This study aims to investigate the students’ perception towards the use of Canvas to promote interactive online learning. Implementing case study as the research design, this study involved 77 students as the participants, and used both questionnaire and semi-structured interview to collect the data. In this study, the quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while the qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of this study revealed that students accessed Canvas ranging for less than 1 hour to more than 2 hours in a week.  They accessed it mostly to join some learning activities designed by the teacher, including reading the learning modules, joining online discussion, and doing the assignments given by the teachers. They also believe that during the online learning, Canvas is an easy-to-use LMS, and it provides a lot of features that help them learning. Besides, they also agree that Canvas is effective to provide them the opportunity have an interactive learning experience. In addition, they also perceived that using Canvas motivated them, and make the learning process more interesting. Therefore, teachers can optimize various features provided by Canvas to make the teaching and learning process in online setting become more interactive, interesting, and effective.

This chapter explores ways in which new and emerging information and communication technologies (ICT) might transform the learning experience through online delivery. After presenting a conceptualisation of ICT use by educators in terms of inaction, investigation, application, integration, and transformation, two diverse learning settings are examined to develop insights into the implications of online learning for lifelong learning—namely, the delivery of educational services to preschool children (aged 4 years old) through to Year 10 students (aged 15 years old) in rural and remote communities in Australia, and the dimensions required for designing online learning for adult learners in higher education. Through the presentation of a case study of a School of Distance Education in Australia, which reflects technological improvements using telephone teaching, and the affordances of improved connectivity, the case study demonstrates that this has enabled the use of more constructivist approaches to teaching and learning to transform the delivery of education to rural and remote students. Subsequently, this chapter provides a synthesis of the literature relating to the critical factors influencing learner satisfaction in online learning.

This paper aims to reveal factors that affect the students' participation in a speaking online class. The subjects are the second and fourth semester students of English department, Language and Culture Faculty, UNTAG Semarang. The research was held during the even semester of the academic year 2020/2021. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method. The data was based on the interview and the questionnaires filled by the students. Some technical issues came up in the online class such as internet connection which mostly became the hottest issue and also the device being used which was sometimes not compatible to the program used in the teaching and learning process. Those issues somehow have affected the online teaching and learning process. The other issues affected in online learning are students’ contribution and students’ condition. For those, it is hoped that the research will give a clearer explanation especially for the teachers who are struggling on teaching the online class and face a similar situation. Given the impact of coronavirus, all schools across all sectors public and private, in the United Kingdom closed at the end of March 2020. Closures affected every type of establishment across the UK as well as private language schools. Our case study takes place in London and looks into the student experience in a language Mandarin Chinese school. These language students, as very many across the globe, who attended face-to-face sessions up until that point, have since been studying remotely and joining virtual classrooms via Zoom, one of the multiple video conferencing platforms available. To better evaluate students’ online learning experience of remote learning, this study examines the teacher-student interactions that take place via online means and the students’ sense of ‘presence’ (i.e., cognitive, social, and teaching presence) in order to evaluate the lessons we can learn from the online learning experience, going forward in terms of teaching and learning. This study also presents how meaningful and worthwhile the experience has been and how the sense of ‘presence’ plays a significant role in the process of online teaching and learning.

Personal competence is one of the four main competencies that teachers in Indonesia must possess. However, the literature has been still limited on the teacher's personal competence in the EFL context. Therefore, the present study aims to discover the application of vocational English teachers� personal competence and its implication on the teaching and learning process. To achieve the purpose of this study, a qualitative approach in a form of case study was employed. Two teachers of English consisting of one male and one female teacher participated in this study and shared their stories about the application of their personal competence at the school. A semi-structured interview became the instrument to obtain the data. The findings of this investigation indicated that the personal competence of EFL teachers was revealed from teachers� obedience towards regulation, the application of their religious values, the way they treat their students, the honesty and model they demonstrated, the teachers� maturity, wiseness, and assertiveness, the teachers� work ethic, the teachers� confidence in carrying out their duties and the pride towards their profession. The study also discussed how the teachers� personal competence might affect the teaching and learning process.�

In the context of a large first-year business course, we explore the value of student contributors, the former students from this course, working with faculty to improve the learning experience of the students enrolled in the course. By describing our study of the roles, impacts, benefits, and challenges of the student contributors’ involvement in creating supplemental resources, such as videos and practice problems, intended to augment the teaching process of the faculty and the learning process of the student learners, we contribute to the understanding of this three-party experience. Our study included interviews, survey questions, and resource-engagement analytics. We found that because student contributors can provide unique perspectives, greater inclusivity, and diverse approaches to teaching, there are benefits to the instructors, the student contributors, and the student learners.

The pandemic situation shifted the learning process from offline to online. It challenges the students in English learning, especially in learning their speaking ability. However, the students manipulated the strategies by utilizing online platforms or mobile phone applications accordingly to their learning experience. This study investigates students' language learning strategies and how the strategy is applied in learning speaking ability. The case study was carried out in a senior high school. The respondents are 64, who were chosen purposively to be involved in this study. The instruments of data collection were conducted by questionnaire and interview under Strategy Inventory for Language Learning. The results showed that 63 (95%) of students applied metacognitive strategies in the form of centering learning process, arranging, and planning learning strategies. Moreover, 61 or 91% of students used practicing, receiving, and sending messages of group cognitive strategies to motivate them to practice their speaking ability during online learning. Furthermore, less than 80% of social, memory, affective, and compensation. It recommended that the teacher be a facilitator by providing a good stimulus for the students to motivate themselves to be self-regulated

This paper is intended to identify how teachers’ emphasis on writing influence the learning process in an English class, taking into account that the development of the four language skills is essential for learning a second language to gain an effective communication. this study adopts some main concepts related to English teaching and learning, which are: language skills, writing and learning process. Then, in order to recognize this educational case, this study follows a qualitative approach, a hermeneutic paradigm and a case study, using a non-participant observation, a participant observation, a semi-structured interview and some task-based learning (TBL) sessions which were observed critically by the researchers; all these data collection tools were useful to achieve the aim of this research. The aim of this study is to exhibit how the teachers’ emphasis on writing over the other language skills affects the English learning process in third grade students, at the “Institución Educativa San Cristóbal.” Among the remarkable results, it is visible that the teacher made the students develop aspects on the writing skill, but these were focused on transcription and repetition rather than comprehensible written productions.

This research is motivated by the importance of experimentation in science learning which cannot be done directly in online learning during the pandemic. The application of STEAM is one solution to problems that arise in the management of science learning in elementary schools during the pandemic. The subjects of this study were 20 grade 6 students in an elementary school in Surakarta. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative with a case study design. The recruited informants consisted of students and their parents. The techniques used in this research are interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis using data collection techniques, data reduction, presentation of power and drawing conclusions. The data validity technique is technique triangulation and source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that (1) the application of online learning changes the way students learn (2) In online learning experiments cannot be done directly (3) During the pandemic, teachers are required to innovate in the teaching and learning process (4) The STEAM approach can provide a meaningful experience for students (5) STEAM can encourage student development for the better. The implications of this research are: First, more and more teachers are implementing the STEAM approach in the teaching and learning process as an alternative so that students can learn optimally. Both parents are willing to take the time to observe and assist their daughter's online learning process. This study describes the application of the STEAM approach in online learning during a pandemic

Pandemi Covid-19 telah berlangsung selama 1 tahun. Sejak saat itu, proses kegiatan belajar mengajar pun mengalami perubahan. Proses belajar Dalam Jaringan  (Daring) menjadi solusi dari pemerintah untuk menekan angka penyebaran dari virus tersebut. Akan tetap pada praktiknya, guru, murid serta orang tua khususnya merasa kewalahan dalam melaksanakan proses Daring tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran orang tua dalam proses belajar Daring di masa Covid-19 serta faktor yang mempengaruhi pembelajaran daring bagi anak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan menggunakan analisa kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan kepada 10 orang tua (3 ayah dan 7 ibu). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa orang tua memiliki peran ekstra selama masa pandemi berlangsung. Adapun peran orang tua dalam proses belajar daring antara lain mengawasi anak selama menggunakan gadget, mendampingi anak mengerjakan tugas sekolah, menjalin komunikasi yang baik dengan anak, memberikan edukasi serta menciptakan lingkungan bersih aman dan nyaman bagi anak.   Kata Kunci : Peran Orang Tua; Masa Pandemi Covid-19;   ABSTRACT   The Covid-19 pandemic has been going on for 1 year. Since then, the teaching and learning process has changed. The online learning process is a solution from the government to reduce the spread of the virus. However, in practice, teachers, students and parents in particular feel overwhelmed in carrying out the Online process. This study aims to determine the role of parents in the online learning process during the Covid-19 period and the factors that influence online learning for children. This research uses case study method using descriptive qualitative analysis. This research was conducted to 10 parents (3 fathers and 7 mothers). The results show that parents have an extra role during the pandemic. The role of parents in the online learning process includes supervising children while using gadgets, assisting children with school assignments, establishing good communication with children, providing education and creating a clean, safe and comfortable environment for children.   Keywords : The Role of Parents; The Covid-19 Pandemi Period;

The objective of this study was to investigate whether the application of Teams-Games-Tournament Technique improve the students achievement in Speaking. This study was an classroom action research. The subject of this study was class XI IPA 3 SMA Muhammadiyah 8 Kisaran which consists of 35 students. The study was conducted in two cycles, cycle I consisted of three meetings and cycle II was consisted of three meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative (oral speaking test) and qualitative data (observation sheet and diary note). Based on speaking scores, students’ score kept improving in every evaluation and based on observation sheet and diary note, it was found that teaching and learning process ran well. Students could enlarge their thinking process. The result of this study showed that Teams-Games-Tournament improved students’ achievement in speaking.
