Objectives: To develop an in-depth understanding of the perceptions and experiences of senior dental students before and after fieldwork visits to a centre for children with special needs. Methods: A qualitative study utilised open-ended questions and involved 39 fifth-year dental students. A thematic analysis of the collected responses was undertaken, and a hierarchy of themes and subthemes were developed. Results: Analysis of the pre-visit responses revealed three main themes and a number of subthemes: ‘negative expectations’, ‘positive expectations’, and ‘pain expectations’. Similarly, four main themes with a number of subthemes emerged from the post-visit responses: ‘positive perceptions’, ‘negative perceptions’, ‘oral problems observed’, and ‘recommendations’. Conclusions: Within the study limits, different perspectives were extracted. Prior to the fieldwork visit, students expressed their lack of self-confidence and inadequate preparation. Following the situated learning visit experience, students’ perceptions of managing special needs children was positively influenced. Students were happy to be exposed to such an experience, but hoped for better organisation and specialised supervision in the future.

Second Language Acquisition (SLA) is a complex psychosomatic process. As per educational psychology, its acquisition process depends on some affective determinants related to learners' self-confidence that accelerates learners’ zeal of learning the language. However, studies are rare to empirically explore the factors or the ways that help learners build their self-confidence level. Thus, the prime focus of this study is to find out factors associated with accelerating learners’ self-confidence in SLA through a qualitative case study. Data have been collected through semi-structured interviews carried out over the phone due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 13 respondents (7 boys and 6 girls) have been interviewed who have recently completed their postgraduation. The obtained data have been analyzed with the help of the content analysis technique. The study finds that the self-confidence of a learner gets accelerated by three main factors like motivational factor, social factor, and environmental factor which motivate a learner to learn L2. Based on the findings, some policy recommendations have been suggested to further improve L2 learners’ self-confidence level.

The study’s goal is to pinpoint student attitudes relating to the presence of special needs students in ordinary schools. The study was based on Triandis’ conceptual model regarding attitudes (Triandis, 1971). The Chedoke-McMaster Stroke Assessment (CMSA) was the tool we chose and, in particular, the Chedoke-McMaster Attitudes towards Children with Handicaps (CATCH) scale to measure the attitude of ordinary students towards handicapped students. Our sample includes data from schools in the seven countries (France, Greece, Italy, Romania, Belgium, Portugal, and Poland) participating in the Erasmus+ “Heading for inclusive school in Europe” program, with APAJH/LOT, France, as the leader. Our study implemented descriptive and deductive statistical analyses and our ANOVA model pointed to the statistically important factors. Based on those findings, interesting associations were revealed which helped us fathom young people’s views on handicaps; and redefine the issue of inclusion of handicapped students in schools. It also allowed us to design a broader dynamic regarding the agencies championing this inclusion effort. Last, our conclusion has been that, in order to redefine the issue of special needs students, all involved should modify their own attitudes and perceptions.
