Different host plants (Solanum melongena, Lycopersicon esculentum , Abelmoschus esculentus , Solanum tuberosum , Solanum nigrum , Cyndon indicum , Ocimum basilicum and Solanum indicum ) affect the weight of larva on 5th , 10th and 15th day of development differently . On these plants the larval weight on 5th day varies from 2.2 to 2.8 mg. . The tested plants affect the growth of larva on 10th day also . Solanum melongena reared larva was the heaviest ( 4.8 mg. ) and the reared on Ocimum basilicum was the lightest (3.6 mg. ) the larval weight on 15th day is also affected differently by different host plants . Solanum melongena produce the heaviest larva ( 9.8 mg. ) and Ocimum basilicum both produced the lightest larva (7.4 mg.) However , the increase in larval weight with respect to the remaining plants was slightly less . The increase in the larval weight is possibly due to relative more feeding and more utilization of the ingested food and the differences in weight of larvae are mostly due to varying nutritive value of the tested plants.

The study examined the effect of feeding leafy vegetables on nutritional and sensory qualities of rabbit meat. For this, thirty weaned rabbits of 6 weeks of age (535.24-537.83 g) were allotted to six treatments in a completely randomized design with five replicates. The control diet was a concentrate while treatment diets were a mixture of leafy vegetables and concentrate (50:50; w/w). The rabbits were housed, fed in individual cages and the experiment was conducted for 9 weeks with 7 days of adaptation. This study revealed that 50 % Abelmoschus esculentus and 50%Vigna unguiculata leaves combined with 50 % of concentrate diet allowed the highest carcass yield. The meat bone ratio of the rabbits fed with the diets Abelmoschus esculentus and Vigna unguiculata were the highest with (5.56±0.15) and (5.40±0.10) respectively. The rabbits fed Vigna unguiculata with concentrate diet presented the highest protein content (20.92 %). The meat produced by feeding Solanum melongena with concentrate recorded the highest levels of potassium (546.56mg/100 g) and phosphorus (336.99 mg/100 g). The lysine content of rabbit meat obtained with Solanum melongena diet was higher than other groups. Leafy vegetables supplementation had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the appearance, juiciness and tenderness of rabbit meat. This study showed that Solanum melongena with concentrate mixture allowed the best nutritive value of meat as well as its sensory quality.

Seeds of 10 species of dicotyledons were placed into varying concentrations of solutions of aniline (C6H5NH2) for 16 h. All three parameters studied, germination, growth, and pigmentation, were adversely affected in runner bean, Phaseolus coccineus; bush bean, P. vulgaris; mung bean, P. aureus; buckwheat, Fagopyrum esculentum; radish, Raphanus sativus; flax, Linum usitatissimum; eggplant, Solanum melongena; and tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum, by imbibition of a 0.05 M solution. By contrast, pigmentation in sweet basil, Ocimum Basilicum, and sensitive plant, Mimosa pudica, was enhanced. Competition by aniline in hydroxylase reactions and in sugar-requiring processes via a postulated glycosylation detoxication reaction is suggested as a possible mode of action.

Kemudian genus Capsicum diperoleh 2 species:Capsicum annum(Cabe merah)danCapsicum frutescens (Cabe rawit), genus Datura diperoleh 1 species: Datura metel (Kecubung), genus Brugmansia diperoleh 1 species: Cestrum nocturnum (Harum Dalu), dan genus Physalis diperoleh 1 species:Physalis angulata(Ceplukan).

Loss of soil fertility as a result of continuous cropping on the same piece of land has necessitated the need to improve soil fertility for better crop yields. Inorganic and organic fertilizers have been used to improve soil fertility, however, excessive use of soil amendments improve vegetative growth of plants thereby attracting large numbers of insect pests. Cow dung and poultry droppings were used as soil amendments in a field experiment using eggplant Solanum melongena. The effects of these organic manures were compared with inorganic fertilizer (NPK) and a control where there was no application of soil amendment in a randomized complete block design with 3 replicates. Parameters studied were pests’ and their numbers, plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf area, stem girth and yield. The major insect pests identified on the plant were Bemisia tabaci, Aphis gossypii, Leucinodes orbonalis and Eublemma olivacea. Bemisia tabaci and Aphis gossypii scores were significantly larger on cow dung and poultry manure plots. Leucinodes orbonalis and Eublemma olivacea numbers were not significantly different on the treated and control plots. Mean plant height, number of leaves and yield differed significantly among the soil amended plots. Even though soil amendments improve the nutrient content of the soil and the yield of crops it could lead to increase in pests numbers and damage caused to plants.
