ROLE OF PERENNIAL HERBS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DEPLETED PEAT SOILS IN THE VOLGA-VYATKA ECONOMIC REGION

Experimental data from studies conducted on long-term cereal phytocenoses created on developed peat soils are presented. It has been established that during haying use, while regulating the food regime, it is possible to maintain the productivity of grass stands at the level of 4.5–7.1 thousand feed units for more than 40 years of use and increase the fertility of the developed peat bog.

Taking into account the great interest in identifying the role of the nervous system in the processes of tumor growth and the insufficient study of morphological changes in the nervous apparatus of neoplasms, in our clinic (Head - Prof. AM Foy), since 1955, work has been carried out to study the effect of prolonged hyperestrogenism on the nervous apparatus of the uterus during the development of experimental fibroids in it. Experiments with long-term administration of estrogenic hormones were carried out on 120 non-castrated female guinea pigs weighing from 150.0 to 250.0, which were divided into 4 groups.

ABSTRACTCells use signaling pathways to receive and process information about their environment. These systems are nonlinear, relying on feedback and feedforward regulation to respond appropriately to changing environmental conditions. Mathematical models developed to describe signaling pathways often fail to show predictive power, because the models are not trained on data that probe the diverse time scales on which feedforward and feedback regulation operate. We addressed this limitation using microfluidics to expose cells to a broad range of dynamic environmental conditions. In particular, we focus on the well-characterized mating response pathway of S. cerevisiae (yeast). This pathway is activated by mating pheromone and initiates the transcriptional changes required for mating. Although much is known about the molecular components of the mating response pathway, less is known about how these components function as a dynamical system. Our experimental data revealed that pheromone-induced transcription persists following removal of pheromone and that long-term adaptation of the transcriptional response occurs when pheromone exposure is sustained. We developed a model of the regulatory network that captured both persistence and long-term adaptation of the mating response. We fit this model to experimental data using an evolutionary algorithm and used the parameterized model to predict scenarios for which it was not trained, including different temporal stimulus profiles and genetic perturbations to pathway components. Our model allowed us to establish the role of four regulatory motifs in coordinating pathway response to persistent and dynamic stimulation.

This paper summarizes findings from the hydrological research in the Vydra River headwaters, the Šumava Mts., s-w Czechia, dealing with the hydrological function of local peat soils and their effect on the outflow from the basin. This study represents a part of a long-term research carried out at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The paper shows how important it is to study the groundwater level in peat soils and its area in a catchment as well as to predict the outflow in distinct weather conditions. There were chosen four small experimental catchments with different peat and waterlogged forest coverage. Rainfall events were selected in various periods within a year with a varying groundwater level (maximum and minimum) in the peat bog. Within these situations flood wave volumes were calculated and all of them were compared regarding the peat bog extension. The presented research also compares various sources of data about peat soils areas and areas of waterlogged forest.

The Ukrainian socio-economic crisis has been developing for years and resulted in the open socio-political turmoil and armed conflict. The Ukrainian population didn’t meet objectives of the post-Soviet transformation, and people were disillusioned for years, losing trust in the state and the Future. The role of workers’ remittances in the Ukrainian economy is underestimated, since the personal consumption and stability depend strongly on them. Social inequality, oligarchic control of key national assets contributed to instability as well as regional disparity, aggravated by identity differences. Economic growth is slow due to a long-term underinvestment, and prospects of improvement are dependent on some difficult institutional reforms, macro stability, open external markets and the elites’ consensus. Recovering after socio-economic and political crisis will need not merely time, but also governance quality improvement, institutions reform, the investment climate revival - that can be attributed as the second transformation in Ukraine.

The role of the prominent Soviet economist, academician A. Anchishkin (1933—1987), whose 80th birth anniversary we celebrate this year, in the development of ideas and formation of economic forecasting in the country at the time when the directive planning acted as a leading tool of economic management is explored in the article. Besides, Anchishkin’s special role is noted in developing a comprehensive program of scientific and technical progress, an information basis for working out long-term forecasts of the country’s development, moreover, his contribution to the creation of long-term forecasting methodology and improvement of the statistical basis for economic analysis and economic planning. The authors show that social and economic forecasting in the period after 1991, which has undertaken a number of functions of economic planning, has largely relied on further development of Anchishkin’s ideas, at the same time responding to new challenges for the Russian economy development during its entry into the world economic system.
