Despite the relative consensus in the self-management literature that personal resolutions are not an effective stand-alone tactic for self-control, some individuals seem capable of using them to exert a remarkable level of control over their behavior. One such individual was Mahatma Gandhi, the famous Indian statesman. Gandhi often used personal resolutions—or “vows”—to commit himself to a range of challenging behaviors, such as extreme diets, sexual abstinence, and fasting. Similarly, Prince Pückler-Muskau, a celebrated 19th-Century adventurer, landscape designer and travel author, described using personal resolutions to unfailingly accomplish numerous tasks in his everyday life. In this article, we examine the historical writings of Gandhi and Pückler-Muskau concerning their use of resolutions. We describe three defining characteristics of their resolutions, which we will refer to as unbreakable resolutions, and outline Gandhi’s advice for making and keeping such resolutions. Our analysis suggests that the effectiveness of unbreakable resolutions may be primarily due to the temporally extended contingencies of reinforcement associated with their use, and can be usefully interpreted from the perspective of delay-discounting and say-do correspondence models of self-control. The implications of this examination for understanding the concept of willpower and for enhancing modern research into self-control training are also discussed. Based on this analysis, we additionally offer a tentative set of guidelines on how to make and keep unbreakable resolutions.

The aim of this study is to predict career search self-efficacy. In this context, predictive variables are self-transcendence, self-consciousness and self-control and self-management. The research data obtained from 1278 university students. 786 (61.5%) were girls. Regression analysis and correlation analysis were used. According to the findings, it was determined that self- transcendence, self-control and self-management, social anxiety, appearance consciousness and internal self-awareness were significant predictors of career search self-efficacy. The strongest predictor is the variable self-transcendence. In this context, experimental interventions or psycho-educational programs based on these skills, which are related to the self, can be tested in order to increase career search self-efficacy.

The second chapter focuses on the two major functions of self-esteem, especially as they occur in relation to positive psychology, self-control or regulation, and positive emotions. One important function is self-protection, which concerns maintaining a sense of self and identity. In this sense, self-esteem is seen as buffering us from stress in everyday life, helping us deal with disappointment, and bouncing back from failure. The other major self-esteem function concerns enhancement or the expansion of the self and its abilities. In this case, it is shown how healthy self-esteem plays a pivotal role in helping us move beyond our comfort zone, take risks to reach past current limits, see new possibilities, and explore different personal, career, and interpersonal dimensions of life. This material also includes examining the three major theories of self-esteem and the nature of positive emotions.

Based on the pre-research questionnaire in accounting introduction class at SMK N 7 Yogyakarta, 64,68% students have self management, 75,00% students have desire for learning and 71,00% students have characteristics of self control. This shows the self directed learning is low. Thus, the type of this research aimed to improve students’ Self Directed Learning of Class X AK 1 SMK N 7 Yogyakarta Academic Year of 2014/2015. The research is done in two cycles uses one kinds of data collection techniques is questionnaire. The data collected was analyzed by qualitative analysis using three steps, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion formulation. The analysis is completed with descriptive quantitative analysis to calculate the score of Self Directed Learning. Based on the research result, the implementation of Blended Learning is able to improve students’ Self Directed Learning of the class X AK 1 SMK N 7 Yogyakarta academic year of 2014/2015. It is proven by the improvements of X AK 1’s average score of Self Directed Learning from 73,66% on the first cycle and reaches to 79,60% on the implementation of the second cycle. This improvement shows that using Blended Learning is able to improve students’ Self Directed Learning of class X AK 1 SMK N 7 Yogyakarta.   Keywords: Blended Learning, Self Directed Learning, Accounting Class

Abstract Creative entrepreneurship has gained ground in recent years with the advent of creative industries. The capabilitiesto set targets and individually self-regulate have been indicated as predictors of entrepreneurship. This study aims to identify validity characteristics of a self-regulation scale and to test if score differences are related to whether or not one is an entrepreneur, personalcharacteristics, or the activity sector. A total of 596 professionals from creative industries in Brazil participated in this study. The self-control and self-management scale (SCMS) has been applied; it has been translated and adapted to Portuguese. Cross-validation analysis has been done. The results support the three-factor structure of the scale. Entrepreneurs tended to indicate higher means in the self-evaluation factor than non-entrepreneurs. Activity sector, gender and schooling demonstrated a significant difference in the self-monitoring factor.

The aim of this study was to the role of stress on the effect of self-control and self-management on hope level in coaches. The research population consisted of 196 (80 females, 116 males) physical education teachers working in schools in Kayseri. Participants were administered the Self-Control and Self-Management Scale (SCMS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) and Adult Hope Scale (AHS). As a result of the correlation analysis, there was a positive and significant relationship between the self-control and self-management skills and level of hope scores of the coaches (p<0.01). In addition, there was a high and negative correlation between self-control and self-management skills and perceived stress scores of coaches (p<0.01). As a result of the regression analysis, the level of hope of the coaches on self-control and self-evaluation; on the level of self-control and self-assessment of coaches; The perceived stress of the coaches was a significant predictor of the level of hope (p<0.01). In conclusion, this study showed that perceived stress directly affects self-control and self-management.
