Composite edible coatings based on hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), as a polymeric phase, and oleic acid (OA) or beeswax (BW), as a hydrophobic phase, were formulated with different food additives as antifungal ingredients. HPMC–OA coatings containing 2% (w/v) sodium benzoate (SB), 1% ammonium carbonate (AC), 1% potassium carbonate (PC), 1% potassium bicarbonate (PBC), 1% sodium bicarbonate (SBC), 1% potassium silicate (PSi), 0.1% sodium methyl paraben (SMP) or 0.1% sodium ethyl paraben (SEP), and HPMC–BW coatings containing 2% sodium propionate (SP), 2% PBC, 2% SB or 0.1% SEP were evaluated for the control of Alternaria black spot (ABS) on Diospyros kaki Thunb. ’Rojo Brillante’ persimmons artificially inoculated with Alternaria alternata. After 14 days of incubation at 20 °C, HPMC–OA coatings formulated with PBC, PC or SEP were the most effective to reduce ABS incidence (61, 54, and 36% reduction, respectively, concerning uncoated control fruit) and severity (28, 12 and 22% reduction, respectively), while only HPMC–BW coatings formulated with SEP significantly reduced ABS incidence (50% reduction) and severity (36% reduction). HPMC–OA and HPMC–BW coatings containing 2% PBC or 0.1% SEP were selected to evaluate their effect on the weight loss, firmness and respiration rate of healthy ‘Rojo Brillante’ persimmons cold-stored at 1 °C and 90% relative humidity (RH) for 15 and 30 days, followed by 7 days of shelf life at 20 °C. HPMC–BW coatings were more effective in reducing fruit weight and firmness losses than HPMC–OA coatings, while all antifungal coatings significantly reduced fruit respiration. Overall, the HPMC–BW edible coating that contains SEP could be a promising postharvest treatment to control ABS and maintain the quality of cold-stored ‘Rojo Brillante’ persimmons.

Sweet cherry shows a limited storage time mainly due to incidence of decay and a fast loss of sensory quality of the fruit. Sweet cherries may be damaged seriously by fungal pathogens for a long storage period. For the control of postharvest diseases, the use of chemicals as fungicides has been applied to sweet cherries. In this paper, a kind of antimicrobial packaging, based on our patent , which can release SO2fungicide has been used as postharvest treatment to protect the sweet cherry quality. Cherries quality during storage was determined, and results suggest that SO2 fungicide packaging showed benefits in terms of lower weight loss, lowerSuperscript textdecay rate and maintenance of fruit firmness compared with the control one.

O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a produção, a qualidade e tempo de prateleira de cultivares de tomate tipo italiano de crescimento determinado, produzidos sob ambiente protegido em condições de altas temperaturas. O cultivo foi realizado em Nova Mutum – MT, foram avaliados cinco cultivares: Fascínio (Feltrin sementes), Hy Color (Horticeres), Santa Adélia (TopSeed), SM-16 (Seminis) e Supera F1 (TopSeed), dispostos em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As plantas foram conduzidas em “meia estaca” e não foram podadas. Os parâmetros avaliados foram relativos a produção, a qualidade dos frutos, tempo de prateleira e qualidade no pós-colheita. A cultivar Fascínio apresentou produtividade de 186,1 t ha-1, maior massa média de frutos (144,3g), maior calibre de fruto, (60,7mm), e menor perda de massa no pós-colheita (6,23%). Os melhores resultados de sólidos solúveis totais dos frutos que completaram a maturação na planta foram obtidos das cultivares Santa Adélia (4,3), Fascínio (4,27) e Hy Color (4,21), e dos frutos colhidos no estádio verde-maduro obteve destaque a cultivar Santa Adélia (5,85), e os frutos que ficaram em temperatura ambiente obtiveram maior média de sólidos solúveis totais (5,55). Palavras-chave: termotolerância; Lycopersicum esculentum Mill; produtividade; pós colheita; ambiente protegido.   The performance of determinate growth italian tomato cultivars in protected cropping under high temperatures   ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate the production, quality and shelf time of determinate growth Italian tomato cultivars from a protected environment under high temperature conditions.  The cultivation was conducted in Nova Mutum, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Five cultivars were evaluated: ‘Fascínio’ (Feltrin Sementes), ‘Hy Color’ (Horticeres), ‘Santa Adélia’ (TopSeed), ‘SM-16’ (Seminis) and ‘Supera F1’ (TopSeed), disposed in randomized blocks with four repetitions. The plants were managed into the “meia estaca” tutoring method and were not pruned. The parameters evaluated were related to the production, quality of fruits, shelf time and postharvest quality. The ‘Fascínio’ cultivar presented productivity of 186.1 t ha-1, the largest average fruit weight (144.3 g), the largest fruit gauge (60.7 mm) and the smallest postharvest weight loss (6.23%). Over three years the postharvest quality of 'Marli' peaches harvested from the integrated (IFP) and conventional production (CFP) systems was evaluated. The peaches were harvested from commercial orchards of Prunus persica at two locations close to the city of São Jerônimo, RS, Brazil, and stored at 0.5°C for 10, 20 or 30 days. The peaches were evaluated at harvest, at retrieval from storage and after ripening periods at 20°C. No differences in fruit weight losses were determined. Decay incidence was low, and no differences were detected amongst systems in both 2001 and 2002 seasons, but in the 2000 season CFP peaches were more decayed. Flesh firmness of peaches from the IFP system were greater than CFP fruits in the years 2000 and 2001. In 2002, firmness changed little during storage and ripening. Peaches from the IFP in 2000 had higher titratable acidity and lower soluble solids. In the 2000 season, flesh browning was observed in decayed fruits, always at ripening after 20 or 30 days of cold storage Chilling injuries such as browning, woolliness and leatheriness ocurred in 2002. There were no differences amongst systems related to peach quality.
