Using prestressed anchor cables is one of the most common approaches for reinforcing slopes. By establishing a calculation model for a high and steep slope, the changes of displacement of slope foot and increment of force on the cables under different prestresses were calculated. Furthermore, the influence of prestress on the changes of displacement of slope foot and force on the cables was analysed. By analysing the changes in force on cables in different parts of the slope, the reinforcement mechanism of a prestressed anchor cable on the slope was attained. The result showed that the reinforcement effect of prestressed anchor cable on the slope was mainly attributed to it effectively restricting the displacement of sliding mass in the slope, while the effect of cables in the lower part of the slope was more significant than that of those in the upper part of the slope. Therefore, to reduce the number of cables, decrease the construction difficulty of cables and save money, it is feasible to remove cables in the range of the upper-third of the slope. Afterwards, by improving the cable prestress in the range of the lower-third and reducing the cable prestress in the middle, the safety factor of the slope can satisfy design requirements, thus reinforcing the slope.

Most complex systems, including engineering systems such as cars, airplanes, and satellites, are the results of the interactions of many distinct entities working on different parts of the design. Decentralized systems constitute a special class of design under distributed environments. They are characterized as large and complex systems divided into several smaller entities that have autonomy in local optimization and decision-making. A primary issue in decentralized design processes is to ensure that the designers that are involved in the process converge to a single design solution that is optimal and meets the design requirements, while being acceptable to all the participants. This is made difficult by the strong interdependencies between the designers, which are usually characteristic of such systems. This paper proposes a critical review of standard techniques to modeling and solving decentralized design problems, and shows mathematically the challenges created by having multiobjective subsystems. A method based on set-based design is then proposed to alleviate some of these challenging issues. An illustration of its applicability is given in the form of the design of a space satellite.

The study tries to analyze the morphological and hydrological changes and to establish their relationship in the Sandwip Island through the integration of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The study concludes from the recent 30 years' data that the different parts of the island response different cycle of coastline change associated with hydrological dynamics. The resulted net loss of the coastline is about 6.98 km (0.23 km/y) and the net loss of the coastal area is about 23.99 km2 (0.8 km2/y). The erosion processes (increase in the water depth near shore) were active along the western and the south-western shores. This erosion of the island is facilitated by the steep slope of the bank, high tidal water pressure and loose bank materials. In contrast, the accretions (decrease in the water depth near shore) were taken place in the larger parts of the northern and the north-eastern shores of the island. This is due to the backwash sediment deposition with the favor of gentle topographic slope along shores.

The P-S curves of prestressed anchor cable are obtained by field pull-out tests in the red-clay stratum in Guiyang area. The P-S curves of different theoretical models are discussed base on the theoretical analysis. The elastic and plastic displacement of prestressed anchor cable are analyzed. The results shows that, the anchoring effect are mainly effected by the red-clay mechanic properties in the red-clay stratum; the P-S curve of anchor bolt can be fitted well by the exponential model and conformed to the actual; the plastic displacement is used to anchor’s damage index are more truthfulness in the red-clay stratum.

In the process of decommissioning of the nuclear facilities, abandoned and contaminated equipments or devices often need to be dismantled and cut into proper pieces in order to facilitate subsequent treatment and disposal. Since the nuclear facilities were places where radioactive operations were frequently executed, gloveboxes should be such typical abandoned and contaminated devices. Usually, gloveboxes were cut into proper pieces by kinds of tools which was chosen depending on the thickness of stainless steel from different parts of gloveboxes. This traditional cutting was laborious and high concentration of harmful aerosols and gases would be created during the cutting operation. In order to develop more advanced cutting and disintegration ways, a cutting and disintegration device was developed using abandoned and contaminated gloveboxes as operation objects in this work. During the design of this device, the operation convenience, operation exactitude and the protection for operators were fully considered. Also, the hot verification test was carried out. Based on the verification test results, the cutting and disintegration device was reliable and could meet the design requirements, which precisely executed various movements required in the hot verification test. Due to the application of remote operation and advanced cold cutting as the main cutting way in the development of this cutting and disintegration device, radioactive aerosols and harmful gases created during operation of this device were obviously declined compared to past cutting devices, which was of great importance to the health of operators. This work can provide technical support for the development of other similar devices applied in nuclear facility decommissioning.

In order to prevent rockfall caused by open-pit blasting on the high and steep slope and ensure that the passive protective net structure has sufficient impact resistance, the mechanism of blasting flyrock causing rockfall is analyzed by using ANSYS/AUTODYN to establish the model of rockfall and passive protective net; at the same time, the influences of protective net size, rockfall kinetic energy, and rockfall size to the protective effect were also studied. The results show that under the condition of the same rockfall kinetic energy and rockfall size, the larger the size of the protective net, the longer the buffer time, and the impact force that net can sustain is greater; by assuming the protective net size and rockfall size to be a constant, the greater the rockfall kinetic energy, the less the interaction time between rock and net, and the greater the impulse force that net can suffer; similarly, by keeping the protective net size and the kinetic energy of rockfall to be a constant, it is found that the larger the size of the rockfall, the larger the interaction area and longer interaction time with the net, and the less net will be disrupted; the protective net used in the mine can intercept the rockfall caused by flyrock in blasting process effectively and ensure the safety of villager at the foot of the mountain.
