In recent papers the authors introduce, study and apply a variant of the Eggenberger–Pólya urn, called the “rescaled” Pólya urn, which, for a suitable choice of the model parameters, exhibits a reinforcement mechanism mainly based on the last observations, a random persistent fluctuation of the predictive mean and the almost sure convergence of the empirical mean to a deterministic limit. In this work, motivated by some empirical evidence, we show that the multidimensional Wright–Fisher diffusion with mutation can be obtained as a suitable limit of the predictive means associated to a family of rescaled Pólya urns.

In this study, atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanomechanics were used to visualize the nanoscale stress distribution in carbon black (CB)-reinforced isoprene rubber (IR) vulcanizates at different elongations and quantitatively evaluate their volume fractions for the first time. The stress concentrations in the protofibrous structure (stress chains) that formed around the CB filler in CB-reinforced IR vulcanizates were directly observed at the nanoscale. The relationship between the local nanoscale stress distribution and macroscopic tensile properties was revealed based on the microscopic stress distribution and microscopic spatial structure. This study can help us gain insight into the microscopic reinforcement mechanism of carbon black-containing rubber composites.

Loss-of-control eating (LOCE) is often conceptualized as a negative reinforcement mechanism. However, LOCE does not consistently reduce negative affect (NA). One explanation for continued LOCE, despite a lack of NA reduction, may be expectations of NA reduction. Emotion regulation difficulties and low distress tolerance often predict LOCE, but have not been examined in the context of NA reduction expectancies. This study examined the main and interactive relationships between emotion regulation difficulties, distress tolerance, and NA reduction expectancies on LOCE in US adults (n =3331). Results indicate NA reduction expectancies are robust, eclipsing the predictive effects of other emotion regulation variables.

The capabilities of the people, processes, and technology are important factors to consider when exploring continuous use to create value. Multiple perceptions and attitudes towards self-service systems lead to various usage levels and outcomes. With complex analytical structures, organizations need a better understanding of IS value and users’ satisfaction. Incompatibility reduces the purpose of self-service analytics, decreasing its value and making it obsolete. In a qualitative, single case study, 20 interviews in a major digital Scandinavian marketplace were explored using the expectation–confirmation theory of continuous use to explore the mechanisms influencing the sustainability of self-service value. Two main mechanisms were identified: the personal capability reinforcement mechanism and the environment value reinforcement mechanism. This study contributes to the post-implementation and continuous use literature and self-service analytics literature and provides some practice implications to the related industry.
