Scholars need to pay attention to understand the factors that shape the interactions between individuals and social groups. Constructs like Psychological Sense of Community (PSoC) and Psychological Empowerment (PE) are powerful constructs used to evaluate the antecedents and the consequences of individual attachment to social settings. In parallel, recent advances in network analysis show that the position occupied within whole networks and ego-centric networks are relational factors that affect the subjective perception of membership to social groups. Studies that are conducted in organizational and community settings show strong associations between PSoC and PE. However, these connections have rarely been evaluated within natural settings such as the classroom context. On the other hand, although the theoretic basis of PSoC and PE claims that both processes are formed in a relational way, there are few studies that empirically evaluate the effects of social connectedness on the emergence of PSoC—referred to the classroom—and PE referred to academic-task development. The aim of this research is to determine the effects that the position occupied in formal and informal exchange networks induce on PSoC and PE dimensions. Sixty-four students enrolled in a master degree program (women = 68.8%, Mean age = 26.09, SD = 3.88) participated in this cross-sectional study. Multivariate analyses and network analyses were performed to test the hypotheses under study. The main research finding is that PSoC and PE are synergistic constructs that mutually shape to each other. In relational terms, by sending several nominations in informal networks, it is possible to generate notable impacts on some PSoC dimensions, while receipt of a wide number of nominations in formal contact networks is associated with high levels of PE. In addition, individuals who present high levels of PE are located in the core of formal exchange networks. These results are discussed in order to design actions to increase PSoC and PE in postgraduate academic settings.

Abstract Background The numbers of people who are on sick leave due to mental health problems, such as exhaustion disorder, are increasing in Sweden. One of the most affected groups is healthcare professionals. In order to develop preventive strategies to promote a sustainable working life for occupational therapists, there is a need to understand the associations between psychosocial working conditions, occupational balance and no or negligible stress symptoms. To the best of our knowledge, neither the combination of these factors nor the salutogenic perspective, have been taken into consideration when exploring factors associated with stress symptoms among occupational therapists in previous research. Methods Purposeful sampling was used. All currently working members of the Swedish Association of Occupational Therapists were invited to take part in the present study in 2018. The final sample was 3658 (48% response rate). A web-survey with questions about signs of exhaustion, psychosocial working conditions, occupational balance and sociodemographic characteristics was used. Logistic regression analyses were used in order to calculate associations between psychosocial working conditions, occupational balance, sociodemographic characteristics and no or negligible signs of exhaustion. Results Experiencing high occupational balance, low workload, high control, high sense of community and high justice, were associated with no or negligible stress symptoms. Furthermore, a satisfying financial situation, having children living at home, being married and long professional experience were significant in this model. Conclusions It seems important to consider not only psychosocial working conditions, but also occupational balance to prevent exhaustion disorder among occupational therapists in Sweden. Organisational programmes, which reduce the workload, strengthen the control and sense of community and facilitate occupational balance, seem to be important areas for health promotion in this group.

This is the first study to measure the ‘sense of community’ reportedly offered by the CrossFit gym model. A cross-sectional study adapted Social Capital and General Belongingness scales to compare perceptions of a CrossFit gym and a traditional gym. CrossFit gym members reported significantly higher levels of social capital (both bridging and bonding) and community belongingness compared with traditional gym members. However, regression analysis showed neither social capital, community belongingness, nor gym type was an independent predictor of gym attendance. Exercise and health professionals may benefit from evaluating further the ‘sense of community’ offered by gym-based exercise programmes.

Background: LHWs' are the backbone of community interventions related to health. our objectives were to assess association of work stress with demographic variables and to explore the coping mechanisms of LHWs to deal with work stress Methods: Mixed method cross sectional study conducted in Jacobabad (Taluka Jacobabad, Garhi Khairo and Thul) District among Lady Health Workers during 05 months (Nov 2016-March 2017). Sample size was 78. SRQ-20, a WHO inventory was used. The data was analyzed in SPSS IBM 21.0 and 3 Focus Group Discussions were conducted for quantitative assessment. Qualitative component was recorded and themes were generated by inductive content analysis method Results: Response rate was 96%. Mean age, monthly income, and job experience were calculated as 35.59+7.995 years with 20500 PKR and 4.87+3.599 years of experience. The association in between age and subjective perception, education and physiological alteration and job experience with subjective perception were found significant as p=0.000, p=0.45 and p=0.11. The responses of FGDs were mixed of satisfaction and dissatisfaction with job experience. Conclusion: Job description of Lady health workers is not too much as they are being worked but coping mechanism made it facilitate to work smoothly.

Social identity is a factor that is associated with well-being and community participation. Some studies have shown that ethnic identity goes along with empowerment, and that interaction between the two leads to greater indices of well-being and community participation. However, other works suggest a contextual circumstance (i.e., perceiving one’s own group as a minority and/or being discriminated) may condition the nature of these relations. By means of a cross-sectional study, we analyzed the relations of social identification (or identity fusion) and collective psychological empowerment with personal well-being, social well-being and community participation in a sample of Basques. A total of 748 Basques participated (63.1% women; age M = 39.28; SD = 12.13). Individuals who were highly identified or fused with Basque speakers and who were highly empowered showed higher indices of well-being (both personal and social) and of community participation than non-fused individuals with low empowerment. The results also suggest that social identification (or identity fusion) offsets the negative effects of perceiving the group as a linguistic minority. Collective psychological empowerment proved to be an especially relevant factor that needs to continue to be explored.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess whether there are differences in psychological empowerment between different health professionals working in a teaching hospital. Method: A comparative, quantitative, and cross-sectional study carried out with 165 professionals selected at random and who worked in a teaching hospital in the inland of the state of São Paulo. The participants were divided into three groups: 1) nurses, 2) physicians, and 3) other professionals (physiotherapists, psychologists, pharmacists, speech therapists, social workers, and nutritionists). For data collection, a form was used to characterize the sample, as well as the Brazilian version of the Psychological Empowerment Instrument. To compare the scores between the three groups, the Kruskal-Wallis test was used, followed by Dunn' post-test. Results: Nurses, physicians, and other professionals scored 71.4; 69.3, and 71.1 points (p=0.5959), respectively, in the total score of the instrument Conclusion: There are no statistically significant differences in the perception of psychological empowerment of different health professionals. Conclusion: There are no statistically significant differences in the perception of psychological empowerment of different health professionals.

Although solo dining motivated by self-determined solitude can be a positive and healthy experience for individuals, solo dining that is not motivated by self-determined solitude can trigger physical and mental health problems. This study examined the associations among solo dining, self-determined solitude, and depression in university students. Accordingly, an online survey was conducted on 372 university students. The results show that students who live alone, those in poor health, and those with more frequent solo dining experiences had higher depression scores than others. Whereas satisfaction with solo dining was high when voluntary solitude was high, female students displayed higher depression scores when they had low self-determined solitude or high non-self-determined solitude, and when they had a higher frequency of eating lunch alone, compared to their male counterparts. University undergraduates who live and dine alone, owing to non-self-determined solitude, are highly vulnerable to mental health problems, including depression. Hence, interventions that foster social connectedness and entail the identification of factors accounting for students’ non-self-determined solitude should be developed.

Abstract Aim: To determine the correlation between job satisfaction, job burnout and turnover intention of surgical nurses. Background: Quite a number of studies have shown that there is a certain correlation between job satisfaction and job burnout of nurses, but researches on job satisfaction, job burnout and turnover intention of surgical nurses are relatively rare.Design: A descriptive correlational design was used in this study. Study participants were recruited from surgical nurses from Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University in Nantong, China. The main research method is questionnaire survey. The relationship between job satisfaction and job burnout and turnover intention of surgical nurses was analyzed by single factor analysis and correlation analysis. Results: A total of 506 participants was recruited from April to August 2020. The results show that there were significant differences in age and annual income of surgical nurses (P < 0.05). The job satisfaction level of surgical nurses was negatively correlated with emotional exhaustion of job burnout scale (r = -0.292, P < 0.05), negatively correlated with depersonalization (r = -0.424, P < 0.05), and negatively correlated with turnover intention (r = -0.375, P < 0.05).Conclusion: The findings indicate that the job satisfaction level of surgical nurses needs to be improved. Nursing managers should pay attention to the construction of hospital organization and culture, actively create supportive nursing work environment, strengthen the vocational training of junior nurses, further optimize the distribution of nursing human resources and welfare, reduce the job burnout and turnover rate of surgical nurses, and improve the job satisfaction of external nurses, so as to ultimately improve the quality of nursing.
