Today’s reading specialists are faced with students who not only present reading problems but, the likelihood of behavior problems. Thus, reading specialists must be prepared to implement behavior management strategies that de-escalate these problems. Reading specialists’ training programs are budding with the potential for innovative practices that could be launched for ground-breaking learning. However, current trends display training programs still utilize traditional methods for training. This qualitative instrumental case study examined a purposeful sample of reading specialist candidates at a small, private university in the United States. The study explored the effects of utilizing simulation as a new way to train and prepare reading specialist candidates with behavior management strategies when teaching children with reading problems. During the study, simulated exercises were utilized to train the candidates and explore their ability in identifying behavior, and their knowledge and use of appropriate strategies, and self- efficacy before and after the training program. The post-knowledge gained through the simulation classroom experience revealed, that not only did reading specialist candidates expand their arsenal of strategies, but they also gained understanding of the background knowledge and diagnostic implications that can contribute to various behaviors or disorders. Candidates reported that after training, they felt prepared to implement behavior strategies when faced with children who may display behavior problems.

One of the functions of Public Relations is to establish harmonious relationships, both internal and external. Internal relationships in the form between the company and employees or employees and employees. Employee relations (internal relations) is an internal relationship maintained by the company so that employees feel comfortable, cared for by the company so that in the end it will generate a sense of loyalty towards the company itself. One of the employee relations methods used by PT. Pelita Air Service is through training and development in the form of overseas schools. To analyze the data, this research uses the case study method (single instrumental case study) by conducting in-depth interviews, observation, library research and online data search. Therefore this research is expected to be a reference in building employee loyalty through training programs. The results of this study indicate that PT. Pelita Air Service has conducted training programs and provided official ties as employee relations and has generated a high level of loyalty towards its employees.

This paper focuses upon disruptive child behavior in the classroom. The goals of the paper are twofold: (a) to communicate knowledge and information regarding the dynamics of disruptive child behavior, and (b) to present practical, cost-effective behavior management strategies that teachers can use in remediating such behavior. Initially, the paper addresses the apparent trend toward an increase in both the frequency and the severity of child behavior problems occurring in the school setting. Possible reasons for this trend are presented, and our capacity as educators to respond to the challenge presented by it is discussed. In this section of the paper, factors relating to limitations in the educational setting which prevent or constrain the application of systematic behavior management procedures in the remediation of child behavior problems are also discussed. The main body of the paper deals with the following issues: (a) characteristics of disruptive child behavior in school; (b) teacher attempts to cope with disruptive child behavior; (c) strategies for remedying behavior problems in the classroom; (d) procedures for building in durability and generalization of treatment gains; and (e) limitations and ethical issues associated with the use of behavior management procedures. Behavior management procedures and strategies are presented in such a way, it is hoped, as to maximize their usage by classroom teachers. Considerable attention is given to the issues of practicality and cost-effectiveness in their application. The procedures presented and discussed are applicable in both regular and special classroom settings.

Research literature in public education often categorizes self-efficacy in order for practitioners of K-12 academic settings to understand how to relate to students. They often view self-efficacy in students' perception, intrinsic motivation and behavior in academic settings. This chapter utilizes the research literature from public education as a bridge to discover the importance of self-actualization of efficacy in developing reading specialists. Too often, students in public education who have been referred to a reading specialist due to struggles with reading, low academic performance or a high dropout risk are missing a level of self-efficacy. In that same context, the authors in this study looked to a specific program which prepares teachers of those students and incorporated rigorous self-efficacy scales to inform and shape practice. This chapter asserts that teachers are paramount in the successful development of an at-risk learner. This chapter provides empirical research centered around two core programs, undergraduate and graduate with specialization in urban education and reading.

This interdisciplinary case study explores information literacy policy in Ontario’s public education system. Using interviews with policy makers and a rhetorical analysis of information literacy policy documents, it finds Ontario’s current information literacy policy inadequate to the task of providing equitable student access to opportunities for information literacy development.

The paper illustrates analysis of the assumptions of the statistical component of a hybrid modelling approach for predicting environmental extremes. This shows how to assess the applicability of the approach to water quality problems. The analysis involves data on stream acidity from the Birkenes catchment in Norway. The modelling approach is hybrid in that it uses: (1) a deterministic or process-based description to simulate (non-stationary) long term trend values of environmental variables, and (2) probability distributions which are superimposed on the trend values to characterise the frequency of shorter term concentrations. This permits assessment of management strategies and of sensitivity to climate variables by adjusting the values of major forcing variables in the trend model. Knowledge of the variability about the trend is provided by: (a) identification of an appropriate parametric form of the probability density function (pdf) of the environmental attribute (e.g. stream acidity variables) whose extremes are of interest, and (b) estimation of pdf parameters using the output of the trend model.
