In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based indoor two-dimensional (2D) localization scheme using a 24 GHz frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar. In the proposed scheme, deep neural network and convolutional neural network (CNN) models that use different numbers of FMCW radars were employed to overcome the limitations of the conventional 2D localization scheme that is based on multilateration methods. The performance of the proposed scheme was evaluated experimentally and compared with the conventional scheme under the same conditions. According to the results, the 2D location of the target could be estimated with a proposed single radar scheme, whereas two FMCW radars were required by the conventional scheme. Furthermore, the proposed CNN scheme with two FMCW radars produced an average localization error of 0.23 m, while the error of the conventional scheme with two FMCW radars was 0.53 m.

In the distance estimation scheme using Frequency-Modulated-Continuous-Wave (FMCW) radar, the frequency difference, which was caused by the time delay of the received signal reflected from the target, is calculated to estimate the distance information of the target. In this paper, we propose a distance estimation scheme exploiting the deep learning technology of artificial neural network to improve the accuracy of distance estimation over the conventional Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) Max value index-based distance estimation scheme. The performance of the proposed scheme is compared with that of the conventional scheme through the experiments evaluating the accuracy of distance estimation. The average estimated distance error of the proposed scheme was 0.069 m, while that of the conventional scheme was 1.9 m.

AbstractThis paper presents a novel approach for the determination of True-Speed-Over-Ground for trains. Speed determination is accomplished by correlating the received signals of two side-looking radar sensors. The theoretically achievable precision is derived. Test measurements are done in two different scenarios to give a proof of concept. Thereafter a series of field measurements is performed to rate the practical suitability of the approach. The results of the measurements are thoroughly evaluated. The test and field measurements are carried out using a 24 GHz frequency modulated continuous wave radar.

This letter proposes a method of human identification that measures respiration patterns using frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar. We exploit the fact that respiration signal patterns are unique to each individual, and FMCW radar is employed to obtain the respiration information. Based on the strengths of FMCW radar, the proposed algorithm compensates for the inability to distinguish the respiration signals of multiple users, which are difficult for continuous wave radar to measure. The proposed algorithm also employs a deep neural network algorithm instead of the K-nearest neighbor algorithm that was used in a previous study. The proposed algorithm further improves the performance by using a least mean square filter in the input signal of the DNN. The experimental results show that the proposed human identification method successfully classified four persons.

In this paper, a hybrid deep neural network scheduler (HDNNS) is proposed to solve job-shop scheduling problems (JSSPs). In order to mine the state information of schedule processing, a job-shop scheduling problem is divided into several classification-based subproblems. And a deep learning framework is used for solving these subproblems. HDNNS applies the convolution two-dimensional transformation method (CTDT) to transform irregular scheduling information into regular features so that the convolution operation of deep learning can be introduced into dealing with JSSP. The simulation experiments designed for testing HDNNS are in the context of JSSPs with different scales of machines and jobs as well as different time distributions for processing procedures. The results show that the MAKESPAN index of HDNNS is 9% better than that of HNN and the index is also 4% better than that of ANN in ZLP dataset. With the same neural network structure, the training time of the HDNNS method is obviously shorter than that of the DEEPRM method. In addition, the scheduler has an excellent generalization performance, which can address large-scale scheduling problems with only small-scale training data.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are being widely utilized for various missions: in both civilian and military sectors. Many of these missions demand UAVs to acquire artificial intelligence about the environments they are navigating in. This perception can be realized by training a computing machine to classify objects in the environment. One of the well known machine training approaches is supervised deep learning, which enables a machine to classify objects. However, supervised deep learning comes with huge sacrifice in terms of time and computational resources. Collecting big input data, pre-training processes, such as labeling training data, and the need for a high performance computer for training are some of the challenges that supervised deep learning poses. To address these setbacks, this study proposes mission specific input data augmentation techniques and the design of light-weight deep neural network architecture that is capable of real-time object classification. Semi-direct visual odometry (SVO) data of augmented images are used to train the network for object classification. Ten classes of 10,000 different images in each class were used as input data where 80% were for training the network and the remaining 20% were used for network validation. For the optimization of the designed deep neural network, a sequential gradient descent algorithm was implemented. This algorithm has the advantage of handling redundancy in the data more efficiently than other algorithms.

The revolutionary idea of the internet of things (IoT) architecture has gained enormous popularity over the last decade, resulting in an exponential growth in the IoT networks, connected devices, and the data processed therein. Since IoT devices generate and exchange sensitive data over the traditional internet, security has become a prime concern due to the generation of zero-day cyberattacks. A network-based intrusion detection system (NIDS) can provide the much-needed efficient security solution to the IoT network by protecting the network entry points through constant network traffic monitoring. Recent NIDS have a high false alarm rate (FAR) in detecting the anomalies, including the novel and zero-day anomalies. This paper proposes an efficient anomaly detection mechanism using mutual information (MI), considering a deep neural network (DNN) for an IoT network. A comparative analysis of different deep-learning models such as DNN, Convolutional Neural Network, Recurrent Neural Network, and its different variants, such as Gated Recurrent Unit and Long Short-term Memory is performed considering the IoT-Botnet 2020 dataset. Experimental results show the improvement of 0.57–2.6% in terms of the model’s accuracy, while at the same time reducing the FAR by 0.23–7.98% to show the effectiveness of the DNN-based NIDS model compared to the well-known deep learning models. It was also observed that using only the 16–35 best numerical features selected using MI instead of 80 features of the dataset result in almost negligible degradation in the model’s performance but helped in decreasing the overall model’s complexity. In addition, the overall accuracy of the DL-based models is further improved by almost 0.99–3.45% in terms of the detection accuracy considering only the top five categorical and numerical features.

The optimization for hardware processor and system for performing deep learning operations such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) in resource limited embedded devices are recent active research area. In order to perform an optimized deep neural network model using the limited computational unit and memory of an embedded device, it is necessary to quickly apply various configurations of hardware modules to various deep neural network models and find the optimal combination. The Electronic System Level (ESL) Simulator based on SystemC is very useful for rapid hardware modeling and verification. In this paper, we designed and implemented a Deep Learning Accelerator (DLA) that performs Deep Neural Network (DNN) operation based on the RISC-V Virtual Platform implemented in SystemC in order to enable rapid and diverse analysis of deep learning operations in an embedded device based on the RISC-V processor, which is a recently emerging embedded processor. The developed RISC-V based DLA prototype can analyze the hardware requirements according to the CNN data set through the configuration of the CNN DLA architecture, and it is possible to run RISC-V compiled software on the platform, can perform a real neural network model like Darknet. We performed the Darknet CNN model on the developed DLA prototype, and confirmed that computational overhead and inference errors can be analyzed with the DLA prototype developed by analyzing the DLA architecture for various data sets.


Recently, DDoS attacks is the most significant threat in network security. Both industry and academia are currently debating how to detect and protect against DDoS attacks. Many studies are provided to detect these types of attacks. Deep learning techniques are the most suitable and efficient algorithm for categorizing normal and attack data. Hence, a deep neural network approach is proposed in this study to mitigate DDoS attacks effectively. We used a deep learning neural network to identify and classify traffic as benign or one of four different DDoS attacks. We will concentrate on four different DDoS types: Slowloris, Slowhttptest, DDoS Hulk, and GoldenEye. The rest of the paper is organized as follow: Firstly, we introduce the work, Section 2 defines the related works, Section 3 presents the problem statement, Section 4 describes the proposed methodology, Section 5 illustrate the results of the proposed methodology and shows how the proposed methodology outperforms state-of-the-art work and finally Section VI concludes the paper.
