This paper connects two large research areas, namely sentiment analysis and human–robot interaction. Emotion analysis, as a subfield of sentiment analysis, explores text data and, based on the characteristics of the text and generally known emotional models, evaluates what emotion is presented in it. The analysis of emotions in the human–robot interaction aims to evaluate the emotional state of the human being and on this basis to decide how the robot should adapt its behavior to the human being. There are several approaches and algorithms to detect emotions in the text data. We decided to apply a combined method of dictionary approach with machine learning algorithms. As a result of the ambiguity and subjectivity of labeling emotions, it was possible to assign more than one emotion to a sentence; thus, we were dealing with a multi-label problem. Based on the overview of the problem, we performed experiments with the Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine and Neural Network classifiers. Results obtained from classification were subsequently used in human–robot experiments. Despise the lower accuracy of emotion classification, we proved the importance of expressing emotion gestures based on the words we speak.

Financial area analysis is not limited to enterprise performance analysis. It is worth analyzing as wide an area as possible to obtain the full impression of a specific enterprise. News website content is a datum source that expresses the public’s opinion on enterprise operations, status, etc. Therefore, it is worth analyzing the news portal article text. Sentiment analysis in English texts and financial area texts exist, and are accurate, the complexity of Lithuanian language is mostly concentrated on sentiment analysis of comment texts, and does not provide high accuracy. Therefore in this paper, the supervised machine learning model was implemented to assign sentiment analysis on financial context news, gathered from Lithuanian language websites. The analysis was made using three commonly used classification algorithms in the field of sentiment analysis. The hyperparameters optimization using the grid search was performed to discover the best parameters of each classifier. All experimental investigations were made using the newly collected datasets from four Lithuanian news websites. The results of the applied machine learning algorithms show that the highest accuracy is obtained using a non-balanced dataset, via the multinomial Naive Bayes algorithm (71.1%). The other algorithm accuracies were slightly lower: a long short-term memory (71%), and a support vector machine (70.4%).

Sentiment analysis (SA) aims to extract users’ opinions automatically from their posts and comments. Almost all prior works have used machine learning algorithms. Recently, SA research has shown promising performance in using the deep learning approach. However, deep learning is greedy and requires large datasets to learn, so it takes more time for data annotation. In this research, we proposed a semiautomatic approach using Naïve Bayes (NB) to annotate a new dataset in order to reduce the human effort and time spent on the annotation process. We created a dataset for the purpose of training and testing the classifier by collecting Saudi dialect tweets. The dataset produced from the semiautomatic model was then used to train and test deep learning classifiers to perform Saudi dialect SA. The accuracy achieved by the NB classifier was 83%. The trained semiautomatic model was used to annotate the new dataset before it was fed into the deep learning classifiers. The three deep learning classifiers tested in this research were convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM) and bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM). Support vector machine (SVM) was used as the baseline for comparison. Overall, the performance of the deep learning classifiers exceeded that of SVM. The results showed that CNN reported the highest performance. On one hand, the performance of Bi-LSTM was higher than that of LSTM and SVM, and, on the other hand, the performance of LSTM was higher than that of SVM. The proposed semiautomatic annotation approach is usable and promising to increase speed and save time and effort in the annotation process.

The efficiency of facial expression recognition (FER) is important for human-robot interaction. Detection of the facial region, extraction of discriminative facial expression features, and identification of categories of facial expressions are all related to the recognition accuracy and time-efficiency. An FER framework is proposed, in which 2D Gabor and local binary pattern (LBP) are combined to extract discriminative features of salient facial expression patches, and extreme learning machine (ELM) is adopted to identify facial expression categories. The combination of 2D Gabor and LBP can not only describe multiscale and multidirectional textural features, but also capture small local details. The FER of ELM and support vector machine (SVM) is performed using the Japanese female facial expression database and extended Cohn-Kanade database, respectively, in which both ELM and SVM achieve an accuracy of more than 85%, and the computational efficiency of ELM is higher than that of SVM. The proposed framework has been used in the multimodal emotional communication based humans-robots interaction system, in which FER within 2 seconds enables real-time human-robot interaction.

Emotional robots are always the focus of artificial intelligence (AI), and intelligent control of robot facial expression is a hot research topic. This paper focuses on the design of humanoid robot head, which is divided into three steps to achieve. The first step is to solve the uncanny valley about humanoid robot, to find and avoid the relationship between human being and robot; the second step is to solve the association between human face and robot head; compared with human being and robots, we analyze the similarities and differences and explore the same basis and mechanisms between robot and human analyzing the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), which guides us to achieve humanoid expressions. On the basis of the previous two steps, the third step is to construct a robot head; through a series of experiments we test the robot head, which could show some humanoid expressions; through human-robot interaction, we find people are surprised by the robot head expression and feel happy.


Sentiment Analysis is individuals' opinions and feedbacks study towards a substance, which can be items, services, movies, people or events. The opinions are mostly expressed as remarks or reviews. With the social network, gatherings and websites, these reviews rose as a significant factor for the client’s decision to buy anything or not. These days, a vast scalable computing environment provides us with very sophisticated way of carrying out various data-intensive natural language processing (NLP) and machine-learning tasks to examine these reviews. One such example is text classification, a compelling method for predicting the clients' sentiment. In this paper, we attempt to center our work of sentiment analysis on movie review database. We look at the sentiment expression to order the extremity of the movie reviews on a size of 0(highly disliked) to 4(highly preferred) and perform feature extraction and ranking and utilize these features to prepare our multilabel classifier to group the movie review into its right rating. This paper incorporates sentiment analysis utilizing feature-based opinion mining and managed machine learning. The principle center is to decide the extremity of reviews utilizing nouns, verbs, and adjectives as opinion words. In addition, a comparative study on different classification approaches has been performed to determine the most appropriate classifier to suit our concern problem space. In our study, we utilized six distinctive machine learning algorithms – Naïve Bayes, Logistic Regression, SVM (Support Vector Machine), RF (Random Forest) KNN (K nearest neighbors) and SoftMax Regression.

This study investigates the performance of machine learning algorithms for sentiment analysis of students’ opinions on programming assessment. Previous researches show that Support Vector Machines (SVM) performs the best among all techniques, followed by Naïve Bayes (NB) in sentiment analysis. This study proposes a framework for classifying sentiments, as positive or negative using NB algorithm and Lexicon-based approach on small data set. The performance of NB algorithm was evaluated using SVM. NB and SVM conquer the Lexicon-based approach opinion lexicon technique in terms of accuracy in the specific area for which it is trained. The Lexicon-based technique, on the other hand, avoids difficult steps needed to train the classifier. Data was analyzed from 75 first year undergraduate students in School of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia taking programming subject. The student’s sentiments were gathered based on their opinions for the zero-score policy for unsuccessful compilation of program during skill-based test. The result of the study reveals that the students tend to have negative sentiments on programming assessment as it gives them scary emotions. The experimental result of applying NB algorithm yields a prediction accuracy of 85% which outperform both the SVM with 70% and Lexicon-based approach with 60% accuracy. The result shows that NB works better than SVM and Lexicon-based approach on small dataset.
