SARS-CoV-2 has hampered healthcare systems worldwide, but some countries have found new opportunities and methods to combat it. In this study, we focused on the rapid growth of telemedicine during the pandemic around the world. We conducted a systematic literature review of all the articles published up to the present year, 2021, by following the requirements of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework. The data extracted comprised eHealth and telemedicine in surgery globally, and independently in Europe, the United States, and Switzerland. This review explicitly included fifty-nine studies. Out of all the articles included, none of them found that telemedicine causes poor outcomes in patients. Telemedicine has created a new path in the world of healthcare, revolutionizing how healthcare is delivered to patients and developing alternative methods for clinicians.

Psychiatric drugs have been a mainstay of treatment for a range of behavioral and emotional problems over the past 6 decades in the United States and around the world. Although their use has skyrocketed, the problems they purport to alleviate have not diminished but, in fact, have increased (Whitaker, 2010a). This article summarizes current evidence for the efficacy of antidepressants, antipsychotics, and stimulants. Findings from meta-analyses, reviews, and major trials do not support widespread use of these drugs.

The pear (Pyrus communisL.) is a typical fruit of temperate regions, having its origin and domestication at two different points, China and Asia Minor until the Middle East. It is the fifth most widely produced fruit in the world, being produced mainly in China, Europe, and the United States. Pear belongs to rosaceous family, being a close “cousin” of the apple, but with some particularities that make this fruit special with a delicate flavor. Thus, it deserves a special attention and a meticulous review of all the history involved, and the recent research devoted to it, because of the economic and cultural importance of this fruit in a range of countries and cultures. Therefore, the purpose of this literature review is to approach the history of the origin, domestication, and dispersal of pears, as well as reporting their botany, their current scenario in the world, and their breeding and conservation.

In 1932, the artist George Grosz offered an optimistic account of his arrival to the United States: It was really quite a change from Germany at that time, when you saw so few happy faces and heard so much complaining and quarreling. You had the impression that Americans of all races, classes, and occupations were satisfied with the world, and actually, in spite of the Depression, their American world was still much more colorful and richer than the German.

Background. Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States. Reporting of all medical errors is important to better understand the problem and to implement solutions based on root causes. Underreporting of medical errors is a common and a challenging obstacle in the fight for patient safety. The goal of this study is to review common barriers to reporting medical errors. Methods. We systematically reviewed the literature by searching the MEDLINE and SCOPUS databases for studies on barriers to reporting medical errors. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guideline was followed in selecting eligible studies. Results. Thirty studies were included in the final review, 8 of which were from the United States. The majority of the studies used self-administered questionnaires (75%) to collect data. Nurses were the most studied providers (87%), followed by physicians (27%). Fear of consequences is the most reported barrier (63%), followed by lack of feedback (27%) and work climate/culture (27%). Barriers to reporting were highly variable between different centers.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic impacted healthcare systems worldwide. In this study, we conducted qualitative interviews with pregnant women in Ghana and the United States (US) to understand their antenatal care (ANC) experience. Adapting to the virtual nature of the pandemic, social media platforms Facebook and WhatsApp were used to recruit, consent, enroll, and interview women. Interviewers used a semi-structured guide with content validated by the US and Ghanaian collaborators. Audio recordings of the interviews were transcribed, coded using Dedoose (v8.0.35, Dedoose) and grounded theory, and analyzed for recurring themes. Between May and July 2020, 32 women (15 Ghanaians, 17 Americans), aged 25–40 years were interviewed. Major themes emerged: (i) apprehension about ANC services; (ii) disruptions to planned healthcare provider use; and (iii) changes in social support. Although the women strove to retain their ANC as planned, the pandemic universally caused several unanticipated changes. Given associations between higher maternal mortality and poor outcomes with inadequate ANC, specific policies and resources for telehealth education and intra- and postpartum support should be implemented to reduce disruptions to ANC imposed by COVID-19.

BACKGROUND Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death throughout the world. Telemedicine has been utilized for many diseases and its prevalence is increasing in the United States. Telemonitoring of patients with COPD has the potential to help patients manage disease and predict exacerbations. OBJECTIVE The objective of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of telemonitoring to manage COPD. Researchers want to determine how telemonitoring has been used to observe COPD and we are hoping this will lead to more research in telemonitoring of this disease. METHODS This review was conducted in accordance with the Assessment for Multiple Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) and reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Authors performed a systematic review of the PubMed and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases to obtain relevant articles. Articles were then accepted or rejected by group consensus. Each article was read and authors identified barriers and facilitators to effectiveness of telemonitoring of COPD. RESULTS Results indicate that conflicting information exists for the effectiveness of telemonitoring of patients with COPD. Primarily, 13 out of 29 (45%) articles stated that patient outcomes were improved overall with telemonitoring, while 11 of 29 (38%) indicated no improvement. Authors identified the following facilitators: reduced need for in-person visits, better disease management, and bolstered patient-provider relationship. Important barriers included low-quality data, increased workload for providers, and cost. CONCLUSIONS The high variability between the articles and the ways they provided telemonitoring services created conflicting results from the literature review. Future research should emphasize standardization of telemonitoring services and predictability of exacerbations.

The vaccination rate is on the decline as parents avoid making frequent visits to healthcare facilities to visit doctors. The high cost of healthcare access in Germany, the United States, and other parts of the world has resulted in many people remaining under vaccinated or unvaccinated. The rate of pandemic outbreaks in Europe has highlighted the significance of improved communication and education about the safety and the efficacy of vaccinations alongside effective strategies of reducing the rate of disease transmission1 . Pandemics have unprecedented impacts on the families’ health and pressure on healthcare systems in Europe. During pandemics, there is widespread fear in families concerning how the pandemics will affect families and communities more especially to the compromised people in society, such as pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses. Although pharmaceutical practices are under intensive scrutiny, pharmacies' vaccinations comprise an important element in the healthcare system for pandemic diseases.

Ten years have passed since the initial publication of Emery Reves's international best-seller, The Anatomy of Peace, and the rapid growth of numerous organizations which took up the cry for world government at the dawn of the Atomic Era. Open conflict in Korea in 1950, following several years of severe international tension, seemed to lend some grim support to early world federalist warnings that the world would either “federate or disintegrate” within the span of a few years. But the international atmosphere has improved somewhat in recent years, and the world has not conformed with the early federalist prediction. Indeed, world federalists themselves are still very much alive and active on this still unfederated planet—not only in the United States, but in more than a score of other non-communist countries as well.
