Previous efforts to involve parents in implementation of childcare-based health promotion interventions have yielded limited success, suggesting a need for different implementation strategies. This study evaluated the efficacy of an enhanced implementation strategy to increase parent engagement with Healthy Me, Healthy We. This quasi-experimental study included childcare centers from the second of two waves of a cluster-randomized trial. The standard approach (giving parents intervention materials, prompting participation at home, inviting participation with classroom events) was delivered in 2016–2017 (29 centers, 116 providers, and 199 parents). The enhanced approach (standard plus seeking feedback, identifying and addressing barriers to parent participation) was delivered in 2017–2018 (13 centers, 57 providers, and 114 parents). Parent engagement was evaluated at two levels. For the center-level, structured interview questions with providers throughout the intervention were systematically scored. For the parent-level, parents completed surveys following the intervention. Differences in parent engagement were evaluated using linear regression (center-level) and mixed effects (parent-level) models. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.025 for two primary outcomes. There was no difference in parent engagement between approaches at the center-level, β = −1.45 (95% confidence interval, −4.76 to 1.87), p = 0.38l. However, the enhanced approach had higher parent-level scores, β = 3.60, (95% confidence interval, 1.49 to 5.75), p < 0.001. In the enhanced approach group, providers consistently reported greater satisfaction with the intervention than parents (p < 0.001), yet their fidelity of implementing the enhanced approach was low (less than 20%). Results show promise that parent engagement with childcare-based health promotion innovations can positively respond to appropriately designed and executed implementation strategies, but strategies need to be feasible and acceptable for all stakeholders.

Purpose. To assess the effects of health promotion on the use of medical care services in a community setting. Design. Quasi-experimental, multiple time points, case-comparison group. Setting. Community health center in Ottawa, Canada. Sample. 520 volunteer participants in a health promotion program and 932 matched comparison subjects. Intervention. The health promotion program consisted of a weekend workshop on health behaviors, lifestyle assessment, and identification of weekly goals for change. This was followed by 18 months of support (5 group sessions, weekly telephone calls, and optional individual sessions). Measurement. Computerized data on health care use 6 months before, 18 months during, and 6 months after the program were obtained from Ontario's universal Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). These data were used to determine the number and system costs of visits made by participants and comparisons. Results. When controlling for baseline differences through analysis of covariance, program participants were found to have higher costs and more visits for ambulatory care during the first year ( p < .01) and second year (p <.05) of follow-up. Participants used significantly more diagnostic services than comparisons during both years of follow-up. Participants were also more likely to use more counseling and psychotherapy services in year 1 (relative risk, 1.53; 95% confidence interval, 1.28, 1.81) and year 2 (relative risk, 1.57; 95% confidence interval, 1.31, 1.89). No differences were found between participant and comparison groups in visits for medical consultations and assessments or preventive services. Conclusion. No evidence shows that this health promotion program reduced use in this population over the 2-year follow-up period.

Prabumulih city is one of dengue endemic area in South Sumatera Province with number of cases in 2011-2012 were 225 and 301 cases respectively. The research aims to determine the influence of jumantik accompanied by health promotion program to the larval mosquitoes indices. This is quasi-experimental study, carried out in three endemic areas of Prabumulih City in 2014. There were two intervention in two location and one location for non-intervention. In the first location, the intervention were larva surveillance by jumantik cadre, giving larvicide selectively, accompanied by health promotion program to community group (intervention I), in second location the intervention only for larvae surveillance by jumantik cadre (intervention II), and the third location giving no intervention.      Observation of immature mosquito was carried out in every location before and after intervention was given. The result showed an increase in Free larvae index of 19,8% in the intervention I , 12,5% in the intervention II and 5,3% in the no-intervention location. Indicator of breteau index showed a decrease in all location, 73,1% in the intervention I, 62,8% in the intervention II and 10,8% in the no-intervention location. Container index indicator showed a decrease in two intervention location, 10,2% in the intervention I, 6,6% in the intervention II, while in no-intervention location show an increase for 8%. Health promotion program about how to prevent dengue transmission through potential community groups could become an alternative effort to control vector population integrated with other control methods.

This article reports two preliminary studies examining whether a minimal intervention cardiac risk education program incorporating behavioral components to enhance self-efficacy could effectively change health behaviors. The first study utilized a quasi-experimental design in evaluating workshop outcome among 131 AFL-CIO union members. A MANCOVA performed on self-report and physiological outcome measures suggested a significant difference between treatment and waiting list control groups, primarily in the area of nutrition. In the second true experimental study, participants were 307 “at-risk” employees of a local school system. A MANCOVA at a four month follow-up revealed significant differences in several reported health behaviors including Type A behavior, smoking, and nutrition. Results also showed the program's effectiveness was consistent across sex, age, and severity of participants' health risk. Implications for further research on the cost-effectiveness of brief health promotion interventions are discussed in light of the observed impact and the high level (80%) of employee interest and participation.

After a lady has cautiously accommodated the physiologic adversities of pregnancy and three phases of work, the consideration of essentially everybody regularly goes to the baby. Absence of sufficient uterine withdrawals during the puerperium can repress the cycle of uterine involution leading to many complications. The study aim is to assess the efficacy of oxytocin massage on involution of the uterus in the experimental and control group among postnatal mothers. A quasi-experimental research design was conducted among 60 postnatal mothers who were selected by Convenience sampling technique. Semi-structured interview method was used to collect the demographical data and by measuring the length between the fundus of the uterus and Symphysis Pubis with a measuring tape. Oxytocin massage was given for 15 minutes from 1st- 5th postnatal day. Among 60 samples in the experimental group  the level of involution among postnatal mothers in the experimental group, 6 had good involution, 14 had average involution and 10 had poor involution. In the present study, there was a statistically significant association in Postnatal vaginal bleeding and breastfeeding frequency which had shown statistically significant association with post-test level of involution of the uterus among postnatal mothers in the experimental group at p<0.05 level and the other variables had not shown statistical significance. This reveals that oxytocin massage is highly significant in the experimental group because oxytocin hormone which is secreted by the neurons of the hypothalamus during massage stimulates the contraction of uterine smooth muscle by increasing the sodium permeability of uterine myofibrils.

Abstract: Health is an essential factor for human development and one of the fields of action proposed in the context of the health promotion is the creation of favorable environments. The World Health Organization (WHO) develops a health policy that advocates the so-called active aging since the year 2002. The Physiotherapy, which the objective of study is especially the human movement, collaborates through its knowledge and physiotherapeutic resources aiming to facili tate the understanding of the factors that may cause a decrease in the elderly well-being and quality of life. The research had as general objective to describe the elderly perception about the physiotherapy performance in a health promotion program. It was used a qualitative and descriptive methodology in which 16 elderly people who participate in a Program of Physiotherapeutic Assistance dedicated to the third age at NAMI were interviewed. It was included in the research the elderly people who had a regular participation in the program and excluded the ones who got a total of 03 consecutive absences. The period of collected data was from May to July 2008 when it was conducted a semi-structured interview. The results indicate that the Physiotherapy contributed through the group in the elderly lives, motivating them to look for an assistance program. The loneliness is one of the major problems in old age. The daily life of these elderly was like that before joining in the assistance program, but there was a change of life after the program. Therefore, it was observed in the investigated group that the Physiotherapy contributes to the elderly health promotion through promoters groups of health that present benefits to the elderly and his network, extending to the ageing process.
