The Shangfang deposit is a recently discovered large-scale tungsten deposit (66,500 t at 0.23% WO3), which is located near the western boundary of the Southeastern Coastal Metallogenic Belt (i.e., Zhenghe–Dafu fault), and adjacent to the northeast of the Nanling Range Metallogenic Belt. Unlike many other W–Sn deposits in this region that occur within or near the granites, the orebodies in the Sangfang deposit all occur within the amphibolite of Palaeoproterozoic Dajinshan Formation and have no direct contact to the granite. In this study, we carry out a thermal ionization mass spectrometer (TIMS) Sm-Nd isotope analysis for the scheelites from the orebody, which yields a Sm–Nd isochron age of 157.9 ± 6.7 Ma (MSWD = 0.96). This age is in good agreement with the previously published zircon U–Pb age (158.8 ± 1.6 Ma) for the granite and the molybdenite Re–Os age (158.1 ± 5.4 Ma) in the deposit. Previous studies demonstrated that the W–Sn deposits occurring between Southeastern Nanling Range and Coastal Metallogenic Belt mainly formed in the two periods of 160–150 Ma and 140–135 Ma, respectively. The microthermometry results of fluid inclusions in scheelite and quartz are suggestive of a near-isothermal (possibly poly-baric) mixing between two fluids of differing salinities. The H–O isotope results illustrate that the ore-forming fluids are derived from magma and might be equilibrated with metamorphic rocks at high temperature. The Jurassic granite pluton should play a critical role for the large hydrothermal system producing the Shangfang W deposit. Furthermore, the negative εNd(t) of −14.6 obtained in the Shanfang scheelite suggests for the involvement of the deep crustal materials. In general, subduction of the paleo-Pacific plate caused an extensional tectonic setting with formation of the Shangfang granites and related W mineralization, the geological background of which is similar to other W deposits in the Nanling Range Metallogenic Belt.

<p>Early Mesozoic magmatism in Indochina and its vicinities in Sundaland (SE Asia) has been usually ascribed to be in connection with one of three approximately coeval tectonic regimes: 1) the Indochina-Sibumasu amalgamation leading to the closure of the Paleotethys during the Late Paleozoic – Early Mesozoic forming the Thai-Malaysia tin-bearing granite belt, 2) the Indochina-South China amalgamation along the northern boundary of Indochina closing another branch of the Paleotethys during Late Paleozoic – Triassic times, and 3) the early stage of an active margin with subduction of the Paleo-Pacific plate during Triassic-Jurassic times.</p><p>Scattered granitic plutons (185–210 Ma) located in southern Cambodia and some islands in southernmost Vietnam are distributed along the N-S Rach Gia-Nam Can fault which is a large-scale fault active during the Early Mesozoic. The studied rocks can be distinguished based on petrological features: weakly foliated biotite-rich granite (Hon Khoai Island, SW Vietnam), biotite-tourmaline-bearing granite (Hon Da Bac Island, SW Vietnam), and coarse-grained biotite granite (Tamao, SE Cambodia). The Honkhoai granites are a range of dark to light coloured granites due to a variation in biotite content and display a foliation. They usually contain amphibole, ilmenite, and monazite. The Hondabac granites comprise dark-colored granodiorites and granites with biotite, tourmaline, ilmenite, apatite, fluorite, epidote, and subordinate titanite. The Tamao granites are mainly composed of biotite aggregates with sporadic muscovite and accessory phases such as ilmenite, apatite, and fluorite.</p><p>Zircon U-Pb ages yield 189 ± 1 to 206 ± 2 Ma for the Honkhoai rocks, 192 ± 1 to 202 ± 1 Ma for the Hondabac rocks, and 189 ± 2 Ma for the Tamao rocks. Apparently, these Late Triassic - Early Jurassic granitoids are chronologically consistent with all three tectonic events. However, geographical and geochemical arguments favor a connection to the Thai-Malaysia tin-bearing granites. Similarities include high silica content and predominantly high-K to calc-alkaline affinities. Trace element composition is characterized by enrichments in Cs, Rb, Th, U, and Pb, and depletion in Ba, Sr, Nb, P, and Ti. All analyzed rock samples show (La/Yb)n values of 4.05–17.27 and negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu*=0.15–0.65). The whole-rock and biotite chemistry point to an arc-related tectonic setting for the Hondabac rock, while the Honkhoai and Tamao rocks are ambiguous in the tectonic regime but likely close to syn-collision and within-plate field, respectively. Geobarometry of the Honkhoai rocks using the Al-in-amphibole geobarometer yields crystallization pressure up to 3 kbar.</p><p>We conclude that the studied rocks formed during the closure of the Palaeotethys along the western boundary of the Indochina block, particularly similar to the Thai-Malaysia granite belt. Hence, the Sukhothai-Chantaburi Terrane may be extended southeastward as far as to the Hon Khoai Island (Southernmost Vietnam).</p>

The large-scale Maoping W–Sn deposit in the Gannan metallogenic belt of the eastern Nanling Range, South China, spatially associated with the Maoping granite pluton, hosts total ore reserves of 103,000 t WO3 and 50,000 t Sn. Two different types of mineralization developed in this deposit: Upper quartz vein-type mineralization, mostly within the Cambrian metamorphosed sandstone and slate, and underneath greisen-type mineralization within the Maoping granite. Cassiterites from both types of mineralization coexist with wolframite. Here we report for the first time in situ U–Pb data on cassiterite and zircon of the Maoping deposit obtained by LA-ICP-MS. Cassiterite from quartz vein and greisen yielded weighted average 206Pb/238U ages of 156.8 ± 1.5 Ma and 156.9 ± 1.4 Ma, respectively, which indicates that the two types of mineralization formed roughly at the same time. In addition, the two mineralization ages are consistent with the emplacement age of the Maoping granite (159.0 ± 1.5 Ma) within error, suggesting a close temporal and genetic link between W–Sn mineralization and granitic magmatism. The two types of mineralization formed at the same magmatic-hydrothermal event. Cassiterite from both types of mineralization shows high Fe, Ta, and Zr contents with a low Zr/Hf ratio, suggesting that the ore-forming fluid should be derived from the highly differentiated Maoping granite pluton. Cassiterite in greisen has higher contents of Nb and Ta but a lower concentration of Ti compared with that in quartz vein, indicating that the formation temperature of greisen-type mineralization is little higher than that of quartz-vein-type mineralization.

Abstract. Background: Given that nursing staff play a critical role in the decision regarding use of physical restraints, research has examined nursing professionals’ attitudes toward this practice. Aim: Since nursing professionals’ views on physical restraint use have not yet been examined in Austria to date, we aimed to explore nursing professionals’ attitudes concerning use of physical restraints in nursing homes of Styria (Austria). Method: Data were collected from a convenience sample of nursing professionals (N = 355) within 19 Styrian nursing homes, based on a cross-sectional study design. Attitudes toward the practice of restraint use were assessed by means of the Maastricht Attitude Questionnaire in the German version. Results: The overall results showed rather positive attitudes toward the use of physical restraints, yet the findings regarding the sub-dimensions of the questionnaire were mixed. Although nursing professionals tended to deny “good reasons” for using physical restraints, they evaluated the consequences of physical restraint use rather positive and considered restraint use as an appropriate health care practice. Nursing professionals’ views regarding the consequences of using specific physical restraints further showed that belts were considered as the most restricting and discomforting devices. Conclusions: Overall, Austrian nursing professionals seemed to hold more positive attitudes toward the use of physical restraints than counterparts in other Western European countries. Future nationwide large-scale surveys will be needed to confirm our findings.

Abstract INTRODUCTION Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive form of primary brain cancer. A subpopulation of multipotent cells termed GBM cancer stem cells (CSCs) play a critical role in tumor initiation and maintenance, drug resistance, and recurrence following surgery. New therapeutic strategies for the treatment of GBM have recently focused on targeting CSCs. Here we have used an unbiased large-scale screening approach to identify drug-like small molecules that induce apoptosis in GBM CSCs in a cell type-selective manner. METHODS A luciferase-based survival assay of patient-derived GBM CSC lines was established to perform a large-scale screen of ∼one million drug-like small molecules with the goal of identifying novel compounds that are selectively toxic to chemoresistant GBM CSCs. Compounds found to kill GBM CSC lines as compared to control cell types were further characterized. A caspase activation assay was used to evaluate the mechanism of induced cell death. A xenograft animal model using patient-derived GBM CSCs was employed to test the leading candidate for suppression of in vivo tumor formation. RESULTS We identified a small molecule, termed RIPGBM, from the cell-based chemical screen that induces apoptosis in primary patient-derived GBM CSC cultures. The cell type-dependent selectivity of RIPGBM appears to arise at least in part from redox-dependent formation of a proapoptotic derivative, termed cRIPGBM, in GBM CSCs. cRIPGBM induces caspase 1-dependent apoptosis by binding to receptor-interacting protein kinase 2 (RIPK2) and acting as a molecular switch, which reduces the formation of a prosurvival RIPK2/TAK1 complex and increases the formation of a proapoptotic RIPK2/caspase 1 complex. In an intracranial GBM xenograft mouse model, RIPGBM was found to significantly suppress tumor formation. CONCLUSIONS Our chemical genetics-based approach has identified a small molecule drug candidate and a potential drug target that selectively targets cancer stem cells and provides an approach for the treatment of GBMs.

Currently the whole world is affected by the COVID-19 disease. Italy was the first country to be seriously affected in Europe, where the first COVID-19 outbreak was localized in the Lombardy region. The further spreading of the cases led to the lockdown of the most affected regions in northern Italy and then the entire country. In this work we investigated an epidemic spread scenario in the Lombardy region by using the origin–destination matrix with information about the commuting flows among 1450 urban areas within the region. We performed a large-scale simulation-based modeling of the epidemic spread over the networks related to three main motivations, i.e., work, study and occasional transfers to quantify the potential contribution of each category of travellers to the spread of the epidemic process. Our findings outline that the three networks are characterised by different weight dynamic growth rates and that the network “work” has a critical role in the diffusion phenomenon showing the greatest contribution to the epidemic spread.
