Unbalanced regional development is widespread, and the imbalance of regional development in developing countries with rapid urbanization is increasingly apparent. This threatens the sustainable development of the region. Promoting the coordinated development of the region has become a hot spot of scientific research and a major practical need. Taking 99 counties of Jiangsu Province China, a typical coastal plain region, as the basic research unit, this paper explores the unbalanced development characteristics of the regional urban spatial form using three indicators: urban spatial expansion size, development intensity, and distribution aggregation degree. Then, their driving mechanisms were evaluated using spatial autocorrelation analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, linear regression, and geographically weighted regression. Our results found that the areas with larger urban spatial expansion size and development intensity were mainly concentrated in southern Jiangsu, where there was a positive spatial correlation between them. We found no agglomeration phenomenon in urban spatial distribution aggregation degree. From the perspective of driving factors: economics was the main driving factor of urban spatial expansion size; urbanization level and urbanization quality were the main driving factors of urban spatial development intensity. Natural landform and urbanization level are the main driving factors of urban spatial distribution aggregation degree. Finally, we discussed the optimization strategy of regional coordinated development. The quality of urbanization development and regional integration should be promoted in Southern Jiangsu. The level of urbanization development should be improved relying on rapid transportation to develop along the axis in central Jiangsu. The economic size should be increased, focusing on the expansion of the urban agglomeration in northern Jiangsu. This study will enrich the perspective of research on the characteristics and mechanisms of regional urban spatial imbalance, and helps to optimize and regulate the imbalance of regional urban development from multiple perspectives.

Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) is of great value for studying air mass and its changes. In this paper, we studied the spatial-temporal changes of AOD and its driving factors based on spatial autocorrelation model, gravity model and multiple regression analysis in Jiangsu Province from 2007 to 2016. The results showed that in terms of spatial distribution, the southern AOD value is higher, and the high-value aggregation areas are significant, while the northern AOD value is lower, but the low-value aggregation areas constantly change. The AOD gravity centers showed a clear point-like aggregation. In terms of temporal changes, the overall AOD in Jiangsu Province increased year by year in fluctuation. In terms of driving factors, the total amount of vehicles, precipitation and temperature are important factors for the growth of AOD.

The paper takes Jiangsu province as example in Yangtze River Delta, which is economically developed regions. According to previous research and characteristics of rural banks in Jiangsu Province, the input indexes are selected as the number of employees, the number of outlets, total deposits, business and management fees. And the output indexes include total loans, net interest income and net profit. Using DEA model to analyze the operating efficiency of the 65 rural banks in 2016, the paper compares the operating efficiency in different regions and different types of originating bank. The analysis shows that, compared with the central and northern Jiangsu, operating efficiency of rural banks in southern Jiangsu is generally high. The comprehensive technical efficiency value of sample banks that originated by the state-owned banks and joint-stock banks is significantly higher than that originated by rural commercial banks and city commercial banks. Finally, the paper puts forward some suggestions on how to improve the operating efficiency of rural banks.

Huangyan dialect (, local name: [wɔ̤ɲjɛ˜̤wa̤]) is a variety of Taizhou dialect () as spoken in Zhejiang Province in China1 (see Figure 1).2 Huangyan District had a population of 616,000 people in 2019.3 The Zhejiang Taizhou dialect belongs to the Wu dialect group, which forms the second largest dialect group in China (after Mandarin). The language genealogy of Huangyan is presented in Figure 2. Wu dialects are spoken in the city of Shanghai, Zhejiang Province, southern Jiangsu Province and bordering areas (see Figure 3), an area with an estimated population of 80 million people in 2013 (Lewis 2009). The Wu dialects are not mutually intelligible with (Standard) Mandarin and often not even with each other (Norman 2003, Wang 2014).

With the unique geographic position and our own resources advantage, the functions undertaken by small towns in southern Jiangsu Province shall be transformed under the background of aging. By analyzing the key nodes of function transformation in small towns in southern Jiangsu Province and combining the requirements of current urban development situation, we make clear that the urban functions must transform to adapt to aging. Moreover, combing our own resource endowment of adaptive aging development, we make an analysis from the four aspects of location advantage, economic strength, land resource advantage and ecological environment advantage and propose the countermeasures for function transformation to adapt to aging development in small towns in southern Jiangsu Province in order to make them become a gathering place for the aged and the gather of silver age industry, and adapt to the challenges brought by aging development.
