This study applies an adapted approach of the traditional view on local participation in tourism development. First, the study mainly focuses on exploring the patterns behind participation instead of the reasons for participation. Second, a case is chosen that transcends the interest in researching participation in developing countries. Third, the study focuses on non-tourism related residents, an under-researched group of stakeholders. It is thus investigated how non-tourism related residents face the process of participation in tourism development and what the main barriers and drivers are in this regard. To discuss this issue, the study takes a closer look at the case of Bad Reichenhall, an Alpine Destination in Germany. 15 qualitative interviews are conducted with non-tourism related residents and further evaluated through a qualitative content analysis. The results underline that tourism represents a public domain that concerns all stakeholders of a destination. The typology derived throughout the study reflects the heterogeneity of non-tourism related residents, coming up with four types of non-tourism related residents facing participation in tourism development rather differently. Various barriers and drivers are revealed that impact non-tourism related residents from both a personal and general point of view. Non-tourism related residents turn out as a promising and important target group in the discourse of stakeholder participation in tourism development.

Background: The therapeutic alliance is considered to be one of the most important factors of psychotherapy and is a necessary requirement for a successful treatment in interpreter-mediated psychotherapy. Patients and Methods: Using interpreter-mediated guided interviews, 10 refugee patients who experienced interpreter-mediated psychotherapy were asked about factors influencing the development of a trusting therapeutic alliance in the triad. The analysis of the interviews followed the rules of content-structuring qualitative content analysis. Results: A total of 11 factors were identified which could be assigned to the interpreter, therapist, or patient. In the analysis, the central role of the interpreter in establishing a therapeutic alliance in the triad became particularly clear. Conclusions: Consideration of the factors that, from the patients’ perspective, influence the establishment and maintenance of a trusting alliance within the triad, as well as the recommendations for action derived from this for psychotherapists and interpreters can lead to an improvement in the therapeutic treatment of refugees.

AbstractObjective:The aim of the study was to investigate the experience of being next of kin to an older person in the last phase of life as narrated after the older person's death.Method:Qualitative interviews were performed with the next of kin (n = 17) to people aged 75 years and older who had recently died and had received help and/or care from the municipality in the last phase of life. Eleven women and six men participated, of whom seven were spouses, nine were children, and one was a grandchild. The interviews were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Results:The experience of the next of kin could be understood as being a devoted companion during the transition toward the inevitable end, embracing the categories of living in the shadow of death; focusing on the needs of the dying person, making adjustments to everyday life; feeling the major responsibility; struggling with the health and social care system; and gaining strength from support.Significance of results:Being next of kin to an old person at the end of life means being a devoted companion during the transition toward the inevitable end, including the feeling of bearing the major responsibility and the need to be acknowledged by professionals. This study points to the importance of having access to professional care when it is needed, to complement and support the next of kin when his or her own resources and strength falter. This also includes support to enable the next of kin to remain involved in the care of his or her loved ones, thereby fulfilling their own wishes.

This thesis uses the Greek textiles industry to show that technology transfer between industrialised and developing countries is merely one dimension of the broader structure of industrial links between such countries. In that context it would appear that, whatever else may have been transferred to Greece, it has not been technology - in the sense o f a permanently absorbed and dynamic body of technical knowledge. The thesis contains a literature review, where it is argued that the traditional theories of relevance to the issue on the transfer of technology have gradually become superceded. It further shows that there is a need for a dynamic theory explaining the establishment of indigenous technological capacity in developing countries and makes the point that more empirical research is needed on the dynamics of learning processes in these countries. It examines the Greek economy from a general point of view, traces the reasons for its backwardness and points to the fact that many structural defects still remain to be corrected. It is argued that although significant progress has been made in all sectors of its economy, it still relies heavily on foreign capital and technology. The thesis then goes on to explore the textiles industry in a world context. It is shown that the industry is undergoing several radical, structural changes and as a result, many of the factors which attracted the developing countries to this particular industry are being eliminated. Thus, the world textiles industry of today is characterised by an integrated oligopoly of multinational corporations with strong links with final markets and in close collaboration with the textiles machinery sector. The Greek textiles industry is then examined with in this context. It is shown that although it has expanded, it still possesses several structural weaknesses which have their roots in inadequate indigenous technological capacities. It is concluded that under the present circum stances the future of the industry is doubtful if no countervailing action is taken.

In this paper, I address the Finnish Oikeus olla- (Right to Be) citizens initiative campaign (2021) for a new trans law. I address the online campaign from the point of view of affect, especially the “feeling of being counted” (Coleman 2013; Papacharissi 2015, 25), in several senses. Through media autoetnography and qualitative content analysis of online material, I address the campaign as the experience of becoming part in the counted people, who come to politically matter. Following Sara Ahmed (Smitchz and Ahmed 2014, 1), I do not separate affect from feeling and emotion. Following scholars interested in the meanings and emotions attached with numbers in the current culture (Kennedy and Hill 2018), and the importance of emotions in politics (Coleman 2013; Papacharissi 2015), I am interested in how meanings and emotion are attached to numbers in LGBTIQ politics and activism. I concentrate on the affective aspects of taking part in the initiative and engaging with the online campaign. In this paper, I ask, what work online signature count and the growing figures shared online do, when combined with the discourses and action frames of the campaign? How are the anticipation of reaching the required 50 000, following the increasing count, and reaching the threshold of required amount of signatures, lived and shared online?

Abstract Children are vulnerable when exposed to parental alcohol abuse. Although much is known about children of alcoholics (COA), research examining the experiences of younger COA is scarce. To gain knowledge of the consequences for these children, it is important to ask the children themselves. This study explored the consequences for a child of having an alcoholic parent, from the point of view of 7–9-year-old COA. Eighteen children were interviewed, whose alcoholic parent was undergoing treatment, using a vignette. In the analysis, using qualitative content analysis, the findings show that the children of this young age had much experiences and took a great responsibility for their alcoholic parent, and the family. The most significant feeling of the children was a feeling of sadness. They tried to control the situation in different ways. They wished for a change in the future, but despite problems in the family they described things they did together with a loving parent. Implications include the importance of listening to and supporting all COA, also children as young as 7–9 years old. Further studies should address the support that can and should be offered to COA.

This study examined the perspectives of continuing care retirement community (CCRC) residents and their adult children regarding services provided by staff in the CCRC. The study is based on semistructured qualitative interviews with 49 residents and their 34 adult children from 11 CCRCs. Transcripts were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Three major themes emerged: (a) “Reliance on the CCRC staff,” (b) “Dissatisfaction with the CCRC staff,” and (c) “Disregard to the CCRC staff.” Findings suggest that staff should maintain constant contact with all residents, including those who are not satisfied with staff’s function and those who do not use staff services, to identify and respond to the residents’ changing needs. Attention should be paid in meeting residents’ physical needs prior to meeting their social and emotional needs, as these tend to be the most urgent.

Indonesian revolution in 1945-1949 is a remarkable moment for all of Indonesian people which is full of heroic spirit. Interestingly, Pramoedya portrayed the revolution moment in the novel entitled “Di Tepi Kali Bekasi” with different point of view in which he used a sarcasm style of language to depicts the conditions and deliver his critics about behaviors of people from various clusters at that time. Therefore, this current study is motivated by interest to explore how satirical narrative is used in the novel. A qualitative content analysis with context unit was employed as a research method to describe and analyze in detail the description and characteristics of satire in the novel. Specifically, a concept of satire intended in this study is sarcasm, social criticism, and irony. Based on the results of analysis, there are some satirical elements in the novel namely social chaos, public unrest, bandits and robbery, betrayal, generation conflicts, youth nationalism, and immoral behavior and corruption of the army. In addition, according to Pramoedya's view, revolution is considered as an animalistic age where the revolution of soul is more important and needed by the nation instead of the armed revolution. Due to those facts, independence remains as a fake independence where unheard voice of the periphery and moral destruction are still the main problem. Generally, it is found that the satirical root in the novel is laid on two things namely Pramoedya's direct experience as a soldier and his ideas he wants to convey in the novel.

The purpose of this study is to determine family caregivers’ recommendations for professional health care professionals on how to help prepare them for the death of an elder with dementia. Purposive criterion sampling was employed to identify 30 bereaved caregivers of family members aged 65 and older who died with a dementia-related diagnosis. In-depth, qualitative interviews were conducted over a 12-month period, and qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the data. Three primary themes emerged: (a) Educate Caregivers, (b) Lead Caregivers, and (c) Provide a Caring and Compassionate Presence. The results highlight the importance of various health care professionals’ roles in preparing family caregivers for a death. In doing so, both the dying and their caregivers may have a better end-of-life experience with improved bereavement outcomes.

Abstract Background The use of new concepts in patient care, such as video-consultations, reminder systems, and online evaluation portals, is becoming increasingly important in the physician–patient relationship and outpatient care. This study examines the acceptance of these approaches in a neurological setting and determines the patients’ preferences. Methods We analyzed 16 guideline-based qualitative interviews with neurological patients using qualitative content analysis (inductive category formation). Results The patients commented on the benefits and challenges of integrating new concepts of medical care. They identified advantages of telemedical care, including time savings (7 of 16; 43,8%) for both the patient and the physician, the prospect of more intensive (4 of 16; 25%) care, and the possibility for a quick response in case of urgent needs (3 of 16; 18.8%). Several challenges were reported, such as the limitations for patients with psychiatric (2 of 16; 12.5%) or complex diseases (4 of 16; 25%) and limited options for diagnostic procedures (such as physical examination (4 of 16; 25%)). For individual neurological patients' needs, telemedical and telecommunication structures could be discussed, which support the patients' specific requirements, such as answering questions while having a recall (2 of 16; 12.5%) and avoiding the journey (8 of 16; 50%). Also, patients are rejecting evaluation portals and are skeptical of telecare in the treatment of neurological diseases. Discussion The perception of telemedical care and the successful integration of new medical care concepts depend on fulfilling the individual patient’s needs. Regardless of the preferred nature of physician–patient interactions, there are specific instruments that can intensify the relationship. These individual needs of the patients must be inquired about and accommodated for. Conclusions For the first time, we could characterize the properties of optimal telemedical care for neurological patients. Interviews like the ones we conducted should be repeated during and after the pandemic, referring to our results and compare.
